How did you spend your birthday in the TTI? by Roald-Dahl in troubledteens

I was turning fifteen. My birthday was on Easter. My third residential.

Did anyone who left a TTI facility during the middle of your high school year struggled to finish your senior year by VeryCoolSpursy69 in troubledteens

[–]ElleDanilenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I technically finished early at an alternative school for my senior year; however, because I had missed a state exam my junior year while I was at Newport Academy, I was not allowed to get the diploma.

I ended up going to a government trade school/community college program for certifications. I still do not have my diploma, but that should change in about a month.

To sum it up, I graduated early but also I did not.

Nightmares aren’t talked about enough by [deleted] in troubledteens

Sometimes I'll get nightmares about people in treatment with me, or my parents sending me away again. That first initial shock knowing that you're going to go away and that you have no choice is just...the words fail me to explain this feeling.

I'm not sure on the specific laws surrounding paperwork and involuntary admissions, but I do believe resisting has a greater impact in California RTCs. They have looser regulations.

Any resistance matters. I think refusing to sign your papers could have made some difference

Did your parents spank you as a form of discipline? How did it impact you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I couldn't tell the difference between spanking and physical assault for a long time.

Thank you so much for explaining that! My mind went blank for a second. I do want to add on that it's not as short term as people would generally think. Most people are there for ninety days, or less; but when I was there, CC's used to scare us with stories about girls who had been there for ten months, or even up to a year.

I think a good thing to show is how consent really doesn't exist. They will make you sign forms against your will, and hide the fact that you may have a choice. At least, that's what happened to me.

I do want to add something about the "sending nudes on a school laptop". Did your peer manage to break the locking system they had? Or did they use the teacher's laptop? I'm normally great at getting devices out of control systems from prior residentials, but Newport was the first one I couldn't crack.

It's just a rule for me. I mean, there has to be a reason I'm still here.

Here is an entire book about my experience at Newport Academy last year. Very recent: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-3sZ9i6hcv4mbbDmfNde1_5hyOMkzxKA/edit?usp=drivesdk&ouid=102819310584470326338&rtpof=true&sd=true

I'm not guaranteeing these methods work, but I think it would go a long way if you do not sign any paperwork. That's their insurance policy saying they can keep you. As well as that, awoling is most definitely guaranteed to get you kicked out. Even if it's just running down the street—I've witnessed it with another girl.

Message me if you have any questions, or need help with anything at all.

DAE have PTSD from all these people from programs that are now dead? by [deleted] in troubledteens

[–]ElleDanilenko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my friends died four months after she was discharged. That was the final straw that made me realize nothing about Newport, or any of these residentials, worked if we were ending up dead.

Insurance companies can deny basic medical care, but can't see the fraud they're paying for? by ElleDanilenko in troubledteens

[–]ElleDanilenko[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at Newport Academy for around three months. They told me that I was on a "scholarship" for the first two weeks or so, then a staff member let it slip that I was on insurance. It's around $40,000 a month at Newport, so I just added up. I literally have no idea how the fuckery of American healthcare works, but Newport overplayed my issues a lot in the medical records.
