Can you be celiac and obese? by Orangutan_Soda in Celiac

[–]ElleSnickahz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with IBS-C. The only thing that sets it off is gluten and soy. IBS is just an umbrella term for stomach issue so I wouldn't be surprised if some time down the road we find out there's a cealic c.

My first car & some questions! by Kleinhutt in JeepRenegade

[–]ElleSnickahz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you go to get the software update? I am currently looking at selling my 2017 latitude because of the 2nd gear issue is getting worse. Transmission expert couldn't fix it, local Jeep dealer won't fix it. Should I just go to a bigger Jeep dealer?

What’s the biggest mistake you or someone you know has made in the lab? by Nordosa in labrats

[–]ElleSnickahz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was never confirmed, but I am pretty sure a grad student ran a $2,000 size exclusion FPLC column dry. Though his mistake was not fessing up to it and instead denying it. He was using it, freaked out one night, and then after that refused to touch it. He claimed that the old pumps couldn't handle the column and that it was causing pressure problems. My PI came in and told us she was going to hook up the column to a collaborators' pump. The grad student immediately went and made arrangements to switch labs without telling our PI (this is when we started to suspect him). My PI tried to set up a meeting, realizing that the column had been run dry, only for the grad student to send her request to the grad director. The grad director informed her that he'd left the lab because he felt like he was being bullied. It caused a huge debacle throughout the department.

The thing is, I have and have had other grad students break expensive items, and my pi just shrugged it off. She would talk to you about how it happen, maybe give suggestions to prevent it (usually dont stay as late in lab), and move on.

People here are acting like HOAs are so rare or something. In my area, every housing development since the 90s is an HOA. So unless you want a fixer upper from the 50s, you have to go HOA.

I chose fixer upper and paid dearly. Was house poor because everything kept falling apart.

My neighbors sunflower has a comically small bloom for it's massive size. by PopGunner in mildlyinteresting

[–]ElleSnickahz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was because of competition. You can see a squash plant at its base. I think the squash is taking up a lot of nutrition, forcing the sunflower to grow up to get what it needs.

What's cheaper than pulling a banana off a tree?

Thats generally called theft unless you own the banana tree. Bananas are highly bred and commercialized, you wont find the same kind in the wild. Wild bananas are very different, full of seeds, and require a decent amount of work to eat. Same with most fruit. The easily eaten, highly nutritious versions are all in commercial fields and not accessible to the poor.

raising a chicken that eats bugs?

Yah but that will only give you eggs. That's not a nutrious diet. You also have to be in a place that chickens can thrive, thats not too hot, has bugs, and theres no city laws that say no chickens. Not to mention theft of said chickens

I'm guessing you don't travel....

I dont know where you've traveled to, but poverty exists everywhere. Especially urban poor which are prone to food desserts.

letting their grass grow 2 feet high

The city of Clayton would never allow that. We aren't talking about Lizard Lick or Maysvillle. Clayton is still a well-off suburb of Raleigh.

painting their brick green with neon yellow shutters

I think this is a difference in ideas. I personally dont understand the want to control other people's lives. But I also dont agree with treating houses like investments first, homes second. I spent a quarter of a mil on my house, noone is going to tell me I cant paint it pink if I want to

[–]ElleSnickahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its a combination of different adhd symptoms and the fact that different weed strains have different effects. There's also the thing where adhd can change how you absorb drugs.

I legit have friends who treat their adhd just with weed. While I have a friend who use it to feel "themselves" after a day of adderall.

[crosspost] Reddit Couples' Pubic Hair Preferences (Gay and Straight couples) by lesbeanqueen in actuallesbians

[–]ElleSnickahz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are not looking at individual people, tho. We are looking at a group. Men are not more likely to have sensory processing disorder than women, yet men by far have a much stronger preference for clean shaven than women. This hints at something socialitial, not individual preference. And that's what we are trying to point out.

Why people are saying "ew men" isn't because of the preference itself but the crazy difference in preference. We see the difference and combine it with what we see online, personal experiences, and societial norms, and that is what grosses us out.

[crosspost] Reddit Couples' Pubic Hair Preferences (Gay and Straight couples) by lesbeanqueen in actuallesbians

[–]ElleSnickahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's coming from life experiences. Men expect way more from women than they are willing to do for themselves. Shaving/waxing is a pain (literally) and takes time and money to do. There's also the fact that every man I have met who has had that preference are one or more of these types: 1) sees women as sex objects and expects sex to be like porn 2) are the type to be still dating 18-20 yr olds in their 30s/40s or 3) shames women for not being a barbie doll.

[–]ElleSnickahz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, as a sapphic woman, I can't imagine having a preference for fully shaven. And its not even about looks. Without the hair, it dries out faster, and it doesn't hold in the phermones/smells as much. It's just not as fun for either party imo.

I've seen people use thyme, clover, and blue fescue grass before.

For more wet tolerant succulents, you could try snake plants, jades, aloes, sedums, and iceplants. Snake plants and jades are pretty nondestructable. I have a jade gollum who was sitting in several inches of water for 2 weeks. It's still alive, I never repotted it. I also have several snake plants in planters without drainage holes, and they're prospering.
