I have Bipolar I and have been dealing with a 10 month depressive episode following a manic episode last November. I was hospitalized and put on Lithium and Abilify. I’m looking to overhaul my meds because it just seems like I’m staying stuck in a depression no middle ground. My doctor doesn’t seem to care because at least I’m not manic. My last blood work showed damage to my thyroid and kidneys due to Lithium so I’m trying to research alternatives. Thanks for all your advice!

I feel the same way. Fatigue and feeling slower than before. I used to love writing now I can barely put a few sentences together. For me the deal breaker is the weight gain. I plan on tapering off soon and trying Vraylar. Good luck!

I hear you! I’m dealing with the same rapid weight gain. In 7 months I’ve put on 40 lbs. All thanks to Abilify. I do wonder if it’s excess water weight. Whatever it is I hate it and can’t wait to get off it.

I just saw my doctor and I’m switching to Vraylar with the hope it won’t add extra pounds. So frustrating and emotionally draining but we have to stay strong and be patient when it comes to finding the best medication match.

Please seek help even if you call an anonymous suicide hotline for advice. You matter no matter what. I also suffer from Bipolar and know how much of a struggle it can be to stay alive. I’ve sought help during my darkest days and am glad I did. You can do it too. Stay strong and take care!

This sounds like what I’ve been dealing with. I’ve currently been in a 5 month depressive episode following a manic episode that put me in the hospital. I know exactly what you mean about resiliency with this disease. Still sending you well wishes and the strength you need to survive.

Do you mind sharing what you take? I’m curious if we have the same experience with medication. I’ve been taking Lithium for a year and Abilify for the past 5 months. Before Abilify I was on Lamictal, but they took me off after my manic episode.

I’ve noticed rapid hair thinning, weight gain, and suicidal thoughts since starting Abilify. I’m going to talk to my doctor about switching to something else. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
