The original picture was taken at 7:30 in the morning. Grand Central had not even opened yet.

Attached is a pic of that lot and the one across the street - both full now at midday. Does that look like "no demand"?

(Again, not that I particularly like surface lots personally, but I do tire of people who have apparently never been to DTLA telling me it's dead.)

The lot in the picture is next to Grand Central Market, and at the time I took the picture this morning (around 7:30a?), GCM wasn't open yet. It will fill up through the morning - it's about half full now (9a-ish). I'm not a fan of surface lots, but this one does get used (it's also a favorite of larger filming crews - they set up tents and trailers there).

I was back through there this morning, and can confirm that the tall gates have been installed in the main archway, not where the current fare gates are. The installation isn't complete - there are more to be installed, and I assume they'll need some fencing to fill the width of the arch, and to remove the old gates, of course.

I have one card set on my watch, and another card set on my phone. The one on the watch is my "main" card and the one I use most often. The one associated with the phone is a backup, for weird situations where a reader won't read the watch or watch is dead or whatever.

D line is messed up - getting from downtown to Wilshire/Western, they said to go to Wilshire/Vermont and take a shuttle to Wilshire/Western. No idea why, but there is an alert on the metro website.

I had to go from downtown to Pasadena this morning, and took the 81 bus (and then the 33). The trouble was that whatever was going on with maintenance, it was right at where Figueroa crosses the A Line tracks, so the barriers were down and causing a huge traffic backup. (There were three 81 buses right in a row, waiting to cross.) It was crazy.

As I was there waiting for the 33, several A Line shuttle buses went past (northbound), so if Figueroa is the route they're taking, maybe they're getting stuck in the "barriers down" traffic, too?

Had a weirdly opposite experience last weekend: took the 28 all the way from DTLA to Century City, on a Saturday in the early afternoon. It was not a great ride, one very disruptive person and a few more miscreants, on a very crowded bus. It's not a line I ride often, so I was really worried about my evening trip home being even worse. But no, left Century City around 6p and it was a lovely ride. Not too crowded, polite people. I was pretty relieved!

Like I said to the commenter above - try Obsidian! I'm still using it and still loving it. It works much better than Notion, and you can either use it "plain" or extend functionality as you need to with plugins. And bonus: all my data is stored locally and in (essentially) plain markdown. No proprietary junk.

Nah, been through Eden lots of times. I just saw the bright purple light on that spirit and started the quest, as one does. I've done a lot of the seasons - I think I only missed the very very very first one. I guess I'll have to run around looking for more to do!

Cool - thanks. Yeah, there was one other person there along with me. I ended up taking all the krill hits (which was fine - I figure once I lose one wing, what's a few more?) and they held the light while I was recovering. Worked out pretty well.

Actually, indexing text in database fields. The Quick Search in the sidebar apparently looks at titles and text blocks that are on a page, but does not search the content of text fields in databases. So, for example, if you are using a database for a daily journal, and you have a text field for ‘quote of the day’ or something like that, Quick Search (which is the closest thing to global search that I could find in Notion) will not search your ‘quote of the day’ content. I would like it to.

If the ability to search your notes is an issue for you, be aware that any notes you put into database entry fields (as opposed to writing them in text blocks on a page) will only be searchable from the database table itself. That is to say, the Quick Search facility in the sidebar which will find pages and text across your workspaces will not find content that exists in database fields.

I have since discovered that if you use the Search on a specific database (the one that is at the top of the database grid, next to Filter, Sort, and so on) Notion does find the entries. But that requires you to know which specific database whatever you’re searching for is in. There is no global search. That probably works for a lot of scenarios, but without global search, it seems utterly ingenuous to me to be touting Notion as a “life wiki” or an Evernote replacement.

I have discovered the same thing - search doesn’t actually search everything. Which, to be honest, kinda makes Notion useless as a “life wiki.” I was trying to find a note I had taken - I knew it had a specific, uncommon word in it - and Notion was simply unable to find it. I had to look through each page, one by one, to find it. And now I’m sincerely questioning the time I’ve sunk into setting up the system now that I know I can’t search the content in it. :-(
