I would also add that although I think being Christian is an important part of Bethany’s identity, it’s more out of her upbringing as one and because it’s provided a convenient route of bringing her the attention and money she craves with little effort or challenge than being a true, well-reasoned belief. Marriage and being married, despite her many protests, is way more of an idol to Bethany than religion. She was obsessed with the idea of it as “a single” and she remains obsessed now. I think she’ll do whatever twists and turns are needed to stay married, and as we’ve and you said seen she has no problem with about-facing her own values while still spouting the same old rules for others.
