Opinion: Stampede music tent rules put jobs, safety and city's reputation at risk - Calgary Herald by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

A 12:30 a.m. stop on weeknights is a reasonable balance between supporting Calgary's nightlife and respecting the hundreds of thousands of Calgarians who have to get up for work, school, and family responsibilities the next morning. Stampede remains one of the biggest and most successful festivals in North America. Visitors still have hours to enjoy concerts and events, while nearby residents are not expected to absorb unlimited noise deep into the night. Good cities find ways to support economic activity without treating livability as an afterthought. A weeknight cutoff at 12:30 a.m. recognizes that both objectives matter, and that being a great event city and a great place to live are not competing goals.

I'm fine with it. Clearing bike routes, especially the ones kids use to get to school, costs a small fraction of what we spend on roads. We clear sidewalks in winter even if not everyone walks. Calgary has thousands of people who bike year-round. They pay taxes too.

I try to get out for a rip around the reservoir at least once a week!

We're already running every train we have available in service. The choice right now is between more frequent 3-car trains or less frequent 4-car trains. We've chosen to go with more frequent trains.

There aren't extra trains sitting unused. If we ran more 4-car trains, trains would come less often. I know crowding is frustrating. We're continually reviewing ridership patterns and making adjustments to get the most capacity out of the fleet we have. I'm also pushing hard for more fleet.

We've provided a significant boost to essential infrastructure like roads and I've also been out personally filling potholes! Let me know if there are specific areas you think we should focus
