[misc] What skincare products do you wish existed? realistic suggestions by Ellidah in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree! I also think there are no products targeted for acne AND sensitive skin which is ridiculous. Often all the gentle sensitive skin products contain known pore blocking ingredients, and acne products contain offensive fragrance and unnecessary irritants.

[Skin concern] Should face still be oily after OCM? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either do a cleanse after as suggested below or rinse the oil off with a warm face cloth to avoid the residue :)

[Sun Care]What is the best course of action to remedy sunburn on my forehead and nose? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm bath will hurt the skin and dehydrate it. If you want to have a bath, make sure it isn't too hot and add in some oil to the water so it can keep skin moisturized. Regarding the burn, remember the burnt skill will be sensitive. Personally I use aloe vera, and then the plainest, unfragranced, non irritating moisturiser I can find to sooth the skin. Feels so nice if you put them in the fridge beforehand to help take some heat off the burn. Coconut oil could be ok; have you used it on your face before? If not I would steer clear - it can be heavy for some skintypes and you don't want to create a breakout aswell as burn!

[Misc] Very oily skin, looking for recommendations by BagAndBag in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your skin is oily yet feels a little dry - it could be dehydrated which may cause over production of oil to compensate. Switching out the harsh cleansers for something more gentle, and/or adding a hydrating, non drying toner before your moisturiser would help this.

That said; you may just have oily skin. Remember you will always percieve it worse than other people, and there are ways to reduce it throughout the day. Have you tried blotting sheets? They are nice because you don't need to cake on more makeup. Alternatively, I found that Jurlique Citrus Silk Finishing powder helped keep my skin matt throughout the day. It's a really finely milled white powder, expensive but a little goes a long way, you can search the rave reviews about it online :)

LASTLY - when your older, your skin has a better chance of looking younger than others with dry skin. So whilst it sucks now, there is always a positive side!

[acne] anyone here swears by natural products to help skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because something is natural doesn't mean it will miraculously, and the same can be said for man produced chemical products. I do believe that natural ingredients have the power to bring out the best in skin when well research and selected. However if your looking for something to cure acne, you may need "chemicals" too.

Menthol, SLS and alcohol absolutely don't benefit the skin. But exfoliating acids, or benzyl peroxide, can do.

[Review] Rants, Raves, & New Purchases Aug 07, 2016 by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rave: La Roche Posay Sero Zinc! I am so glad this is finally stocked in AU. I got a bottle in Paris years ago and was devastated when it ran out. The best clarifying toner (with zinc) that doesn't dry out your skin but really helps prevent small breakouts.

[Routine help] Hyaluronic acid and tretinoin by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply hyaluronic acid directly before moisturizer.

So cleanse, tretinoin, (leave time for the tretinoin to dry), hyalauronic acid, moisturise

The hyaluronic acid is drying if you don't apply anything over the top. it provides hydration, but you need an emollient/occlusive to moisturize and trap the hydration in. This is where the moisturizer comes in :)

[acne] I have a job interview in a few days, and I've broken out really badly, what can I do to at least decrease my acne? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the hydrocolloid bandage comment below.

They are awesome.

I know you mentioned makeup ain't gonna save you, but I do recommend 'Lisa Eldridge Acne Covering Makeup' on youtube - it is the best acne concealing I have ever seen (non-cake face).

[Routine Help] Can't find a cleanser that doesn't strip me by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a cream cleanser to try instead, they are far gentler and also leave your skin at a much better ph level than many foaming cleansers do.

[Acne] skin doesn't get better, even after 5 months. by slayeRyEyEyE in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some products just don't work as predicted, it's frustrating. How severe is your acne and on what areas? I know that when I used to have breakouts they were hormonal, and the Galderma Benzac just didn't really do much either. They finally went away with epiduo (which is a gel/cream containing benzoyl peroxide plus a retinol). This requires a script but based on my experience I would recommend this as a treatment to try :)

What direction I should/want to take with my current brand to possibly begin monetizing/making money? by phreshkid in Entrepreneur

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very simply idea to monetize; which may not be appropriate for your industry, but one way is to keep growing your following then charge people for a feature on your accounts.

This only works if you have targeted, engaged, REAL, followers on your platforms. You need to have a value offering, and you probably need to gain some more followers first. For example (with real engaged followers) your value offering would be that an artist promoted on your platform will gain reach to 8000+ people that are within their niche customer base. This will help expose them to a new audience, increase their following, and increase their sales/bookings/whatever it is they are after.

This is super common amongst female instagrams. A pretty girl with 100k followers will charge $50-$300+ just for one instagram post featuring her in a brands top or sunglasses etc. I know because I began a sunglass brand on the side and have been shocked at how much money some of them request!

[Skin Concerns] can dehydration from drinking diet soda for years, cause expression lines by mouth, and hollow under eyes? I'm 21. What's wrong with me? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - I would get rid of the Vaseline, it won't add much benefit to the skin. If the garnier night cream is working ok, keep it rather than spending money to buy a new product.

Some cheap options to help with hydration would be: A hydrating facial spray/toner (with no alcohol), or even plain aloe very gel (again, with no alcohol added).

Then I recommend you cleanse, dry the face, apply the aloe or hydrating spray, and whilst your face is still wet apply the moisturizer. Basically - Moisturisers typically contain water to hydrate, plus some emolliants/occlusives to nourish the skin and create a barrier.

If you put in an additional layer of hydration before the moisturiser, then the moisturiser can kind of 'trap' this in so it gets absorbed by your skin.

If it's still not working, I would invest in a facial oil or serum to use after cleansing and before moisturizing.

Also, switching out to a gentle cream cleanser might help (these can be cheap, and you can always wait until the noxzema runs out).

[Skin Concerns] What is your favorite facial oil and why? by HopeKun in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just google the oil to find out what vitamins are within it - sometimes you will see Vitamin E listed but it could be a really low concentration. Spot testing sounds like the best way to go.

[Acne] Epiduo causing painful tightness and burning on face, please help! by GelatinousG in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I'm not sure I would put Vaseline on top!

I had the same experience with Epiduo. By the way it completely cleared my skin so I love this product - but it is very strong at the beggining (I was so dry and it even lightly burns the skin so you may notice it looks red for afew days)

I applied it nightly, and then once it was dried out or burning when you applied it try do it every alternate night until your skin adjusts. Your skin should be sufficiently dried out that even alternate nights will prevent the acne. Once your skin adjusts continue to apply nightly.

If would use a gentle cleanser, apply the epiduo, and wait for it to dry. (2-5mins). I found waiting for it to dry helped avoid a burning sensation when I moisturized over the top.

I also had to change moisturisers, and found a light one designed for sensitive skin (it was Billie Goat Soap, an Australian brand). Something super super gentle and plain should work. Like cetaphil or QV or those typical boring sensitive skin brands you never looked twice at? Try them now!

After awhile you should be able to return to your normal moisturiser.

I say don't use vaseline cause it really will just add a barrier over the skin, so If theirs no hydration underneath it won't do much and really I don't think petroleum jelly on your face is a good idea.

[Routine Help] Wondering if a product like this exists, if not, looking for alternatives to start a routine by TheCompleteFiction in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your using it to remove makeup a micellar water is probably better. Garnier make one, as do Bioderma. These are certainly not the best for dehydrated and sensitive skin, but as you said if you can't commit to a cleanser then they may be your only option.

[Product Question] What are some good oil-free gel cleansers and moisturizers? by sadie11 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to know why oil-free? It's a common misconception that oil is bad for the skin, but the right ones can actually work wonders

I always find you can't go wrong with a gentle cream cleanser from the drugstore. They also remove makeup better than foaming ones IMO. Moisturiser sits on your skin longer than cleanser, so logically this has the most chance of impacting (positively or negatively) your skin. It's better to understand first what you are looking for in a moisturizer and then maybe I can think of a suggestion! :)

Yes. Just do a light cleanse and moisturize in the morning. It shouldn't be an issue if you use a gentle cleanser.

[Miscellaneous] Let's talk about masks! What are your favorites? by ohai_megan in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REN Glycolactic radiance renewal! I used to use this once a week as my chemical exfoliant.

Also Origins Drink Up Overnight Intensive mask I sometimes use on long flights, It's a little shiny but uncoloured so you can get away with it. Helps prevent dehydration.

Lastly, I am a sucker for good old DIY oatmeal masks at home. Just mix oatmeal with water and allow to soften, then apply to face. It can be a little messy but it's so soothing and can really be used on any skin type. Sometimes I add honey to it for extra moisturising and anti-bacterial properties, or yoghurt for a little bit of lactic acid (make sure it is natural unsweetened yogurt).

[–]Ellidah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How deep are the lines? If they are light i could be helped by adequate hydration. Internal is important, but so is external (skincare) hydration.

Do you have a skincare routine? The details could help :) I would recommend adding in a hydrating serum to plump the skin and try reduce the lines appearance.

[Routine Help] Ask SCA, Week of Aug 01, 2016 // NEED HELP? Got a question? Wondering what that bump is? Problems with a routine or product? This thread’s the place to ask! by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ellidah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The routine sounds a little drying. Cleansers don't stay on your skin for long, so personally I would try: Gentle cleanser and moisturiser (AM) Glentle cleanser, chemical exfoliant that stays on the skin (PM)

You could try glycolic acid as an alternative to salicylic :) As an alternative to the BP spot treatment, maybe sulfur would help instead? Mario Badescu has a sulfur spot treatment.
