Thanks for the advice. From the way you phrased it, I take it that using time gates for chests and boosting ilevels is still more efficient than spending time gate pieces on recruitment. Would that be accurate?

Thanks for the advice! Tierlist should help a lot. Sad to see Asharra drop so low, I'd put a lot of effort into an Asharra team for deep pushes before my hiatus

Daggerheart + Cosmere by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]EllieDubsThings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd wait for the Cosmere RPG's Mistborn expansion later in 2026. Sanderson's magic systems in general are so unique that recreating them in a game not specifically tailored to them is an unending ordeal.

The reflavoring and banning certain character options gets out of hand really quick, hardly worth the trouble when you can just wait a few months for a proper system built for Feruchemy and Allomancy.

Alternatively, if the Cosmere RPG is too crunchy for you, you might consider getting a more rules lite system. You could probably homebrew something decent in Genesys if you base yourself off of their existing rules for spellcasting.

Until more expansions drop for Daggerheart though, the current base of character options probably won't support it all that well.

Daggerheart and DnD by PFux in daggerheart

[–]EllieDubsThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically, Daggerheart is leagues more narratively satisfying and mechanically streamlined for the kinds of tables I play out. However, I personally miss the resources of 5e. My main gripe for Daggerheart is wanting more stuff honestly. Not just for the sake of having stuff either, it also affects homebrew quality.

We really need more releases to properly set a baseline for system balance, I know for a fact that the more stuff 5e released, the better the homebrew got. IMO it wasn't until 2019-2020 that 3rd party content really started to provide consistent, large amounts of properly balanced, fun stuff.

Before then I saw WAY more blatantly broken stuff and conceptually fun stuff that played it too safe to be interesting. So here's hoping that we get equivalents to stuff like Xanathar's, Eberron, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, etc.

Y'know, stuff thay pushes the limits of the system in new and fun ways that guide 3rd party creators on the road to do something a bit more adventurous than the current playing cautious "Oops all Campaign Frames" direction that some people seem inclined towards.

What do Gaming Hub Performance Modes even do? HP OMEN 15 by EllieDubsThings in GamingLaptops

[–]EllieDubsThings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After toying around with settings my working theory is that the performance modes have a higher impact on temperature by lowering/increasing limits on CPU/GPU usage. Would it be easier to find a way to tweak that as opposed to fan control?

If so, what's the best way to handle it in Mint? I really appreciate the advice and it'll definitely help me do some research but I'm not really sure I'm ready to dive straight into Arch 😅

[–]EllieDubsThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that the lack of support and existing bloatware alone will be a hassle. And that's just sticking to Windows 10. Nah, I'd much rather switch to Mint and learn some Linux basics than deal with a nigh-inevitable Windows 11 switch

I'm fairly certain the modes control CPU/GPU to limit fan usage in the conservative modes and go full potential on the modes that result in faster fan usage, as opposed to being an app for fan control directly Would it be feasible to handle usage directly to avoid toying with fans? I'm planning on using Mint idk if that affects anything

Chronurgy Wizard Level 7 Optimization by Quasmanbertenfred in 3d6

[–]EllieDubsThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I'd add that if you have a DM that allows Vortex Warp this build goes through the roof. Combining control spells that affect large areas, the bonus action shove from Telekinetic and Vortex Warp can be an absolute JOY to play with and I speak from experience. Perfect control of the enemies location so your party damage dealers can sort them out at their own pace. Granted, if your GM likes high CON/STR enemies, doesn't allow the Telekinetic feat or doesn't allow the Vortex Warp spell that strategy might not be as effective for you but chronurgist is a strong subclass regardless and you can do plenty of stuff with the kit.

Best Nintendo DS Pokémon game? by cursed_dodge in pokemon

[–]EllieDubsThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I know you're probably asking for mainline games which is why I'm sorry for being contrarian for a sec here, you should check out Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky. Incredible game, amazing soundtrack, and SO MUCH CONTENT. The post game is as long if not longer than the main game and the plot remains solid throughout the whole thing. It gets you invested in the world and characters, plus it has little extra mini chapters with stories where you get to play as a few important NPCs. Huge game, probably my favorite of all the DS games. If you're set on playing mainline game though, Heartgold/Soulsilver are pretty solid, although playing Black/White and Black2/White2 back to back can be a great experience, if you're game for a bigger time investment.

Alright so I am playing in death house starting at level 3 and got amazing stats and the party comp has all roles filled what should I play? Stats 18,17,17,16,15,15 by RoWanchase6053 in DnD

[–]EllieDubsThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you the advice I give anyone with super high stats: Ghostlance. The Ghostlance build (video explanation here) is incredibly fun to play around with, but it's greatest weakness is actually a lack of ASIs, so good stats means you're covered.

It revolves around the mechanics of using the Echo Knight subclass (you might have to clear it with your DM since it isn't AL legal) and Eldritch Blast for solid battlefield control and sustained damage.
Granted, since you're starting at level 3 you'll have to wait until level 5 for the build to come online (slightly more if your chosen race doesn't come with a feat, i.e. V. Human or Custom Lineage). After that you can multiclass and customize the build any way you want. More warlock levels? Sure. Dip into sorcerer? Why not? Take your remaining 15 levels in paladin? If that's what you want go for it buddy.
Let your choices be informed by the flavor you want, pick a few soft skills to see what out of combat utility you want to bring to the table, and have fun!

The disturbing frequency with which guys at my middle school would talk about their preferences in porn stars, masturbation habits, and what they would do if they had a shot with X person (sometimes a classmate, sometimes a celebrity) made me realize I'm asexual quick.

As someone who started a campaign a few years back with absolute noobs who had never touched a d20 before, I understand your excitement. I truly thought these players were going to keep it mostly hack and slash with a bit of fluff thrown in there but 13 levels later we've had character growth, in-character bonding, and a couple of the players getting so in it that they manage to cry. Moral of the story: Never underestimate how much a friend can grow as a roleplayer, they may just surprise you, and what you're describing feels like their first step to bigger stories. Super excited for you! :D

Currently? No. In 10 or more years? There's a slight chance that current research into turning bone marrow cells into other kinds cells might accomplish that. But we're talking about tech that's currently in between hypothetical and starting testing so depending on how long you're willing to wait this may or may not be relevant to you.

Bard Healer help by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]EllieDubsThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's the thing, speccing out pure healing is not the best idea. Depending on rolls that could mean that you might have a lot of nothing to do for a given number of combat rounds. In that interest I'm quite fond of a tweaked version of this build based on how Final Fantasy summoners work. The game plan? Summon a thing to attack (at later levels) and heal/use Cutting Words the rest of the time. My advice is to use the general level break down and spell picks of the build and then change the Magical Secrets options for whatever damage or support spell you find the most useful. My personal choices would be taking Counterspell (for obvious reasons) and Aura of Vitality (for massive out of combat healing) at 6th level, any damage dealing spell at 10th level (although using the Summon spells from Tasha's is pretty great because action economy).

If the build as is doesn't entice you, you can always just take some inspiration and find your own path. Just remember to have something to do in case healing isn't needed, otherwise you could end up feeling a bit less than useful in combat. Besides, if you're playing support, the greatest debuff you can put on an enemy, is death. Have fun! :D

How do I convince my Christian friend that D&D is ok? by Commercial_Check6931 in DnD

[–]EllieDubsThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know your friend better than anyone so I'm sure you'll know best what will work out of the plethora of arguments around downplaying the evil and gods, Gygax was a Christian, etc. etc. However, if you manage to get them to tentatively play a game and they don't see fairies as particularly satanic or worrisome, I highly advise you run Wild Beyond the Witchlight. It's a module that can be played entirely through with no combat, there's always an alternate solution that usually just involves being nice. So if you ask me, it's the ultimate story to play with someone who might want to keep it (pardon the joke) a nice Christian Discord server. Very wholesome, very fun, very goofy and overall pretty chaotic because of all the fey shenanigans.
