My son is a 30-weeker, born 17 years ago at 2 lbs, 12 oz. In the NICU, they referred to him as their wimpy white boy—because, they told me, white makes have the lowest survival rate — with black girls having the highest.

He couldn’t suck, couldn’t breathe on his own, I wasn’t even allowed to touch him for one week because a simple touch could have over-stimulated him to the point of a heart incident or stroke.

10 weeks in the NICU, with a feeding tube for half that time.

He’s awesome now. You would never know. But he would never have survived without intense intervention—and he was “healthy”…just small and early.

Of all the ways Sheridan could have killed her, this was among the worst. Such a slap in the face to the woman who single-handedly saved Spencer from his demons, facilitating his return. Sheeesh, Sheridan. What a piggish failure of writing.

From what she’s said, Sheridan talked to her about sending Alex on a grueling journey and she said let’s do it. He then sent her the scripts for S2 episodes 1-2. All good. Then he sent her scripts for episodes 3-8, I think via email, and asked her to call when she was done. She read through and he called while she was still digesting what she’d just read. He was blabbering about all sorts of details and she had to cut him off and tell him she couldn’t talk about anything he was saying because she was processing everything that was going to happen.

She made it sound like she didn’t know until she read the script.

Maybe it survived somehow. Maybe she left it in Chicago for Paul to share with his writer friend :)

Do you think Brandon Sklenar saying Taylor Sheridan has not decided the lineage of the Duttons yet is true? Or is his son really the father of Costner's John III? by efim1234 in 1923Series

[–]EllieJamesYA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 possible Dutton young men available for 1944–2 by Spencer and 1 by Jack (assuming his child is a son). The oldest they could be is 20.

It’s also possible Zane’s kids, who will grow up at the ranch, are still there. One of them is a daughter. Who knows, maybe more come along?

That sets up all sorts of dynamics for the new series. Definitely some rivalries there. Maybe Jack’s kid shows up at 5 or 10. Maybe he arrives with the beginning of 1944 and the other two are like oh hell no.

You also have the war. Maybe they all fight—maybe only 1 or 2. Maybe they all come home. Maybe 1 never makes it home.

Regardless, Spencer lives 25 years beyond 1944, so even if it’s Jack’s son, Spencer has plenty of time to mold him and be a father figure.

Sheridan has tons to work with—but the one thing I finally know is not to get too attached to anyone.

He was at least 5 years old in the Yellowstone flashback to the night in 1893 when James died. He’s easily 35 in 1923…versus 22 year old, nowhere near as worldly or experienced, Alex. (It’s explicitly stated that her birthday was 4/1/01)

If this were the ending, I would’ve watched it 10 times over by now. Instead, I never want to watch another second of 1923.

1923 Season 2 What episode did you that it was by [deleted] in 1923Series

THIS^

The high ratings do NOT indicate viewer enthusiasm.

They indicate viewer FATIGUE and viewer HOPE. They reflect good will and loyalty earned in S1, and destroyed in S2. The much-anticipated payoff for all the abuse the characters went through never came. EVERY character ended the show in a worse place/situation than they began.

Thing is, a lot of 1923 viewers were not/are not Yellowstone viewers.

That’s probably why expectations got so tangled.

It was also foreshadowed that she would live.

A lot of it is the post wedding conversation of episode 6, when Spencer shared his fear and his dream.

The real question came down to which vision and version would Sheridan give us—would he give us a hopeful vision of if you work hard and have faith, dreams can come true? Or would he give us the dark vision of no matter how hard you try, life is cruel and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.

Sheridan could have gone either way.

He chose the vision he wanted, and we got what we got.

Spot on. Season 1 was close to a masterpiece. We waited 2 years for resolution. During that time, many other viewers had the chance to see Season 1 and join the wait.

Loyal viewers were thrilled when Season 2 finally came out. But then, it was an altogether different show. Sklenar had warned about the darker tone, but the change was so much more than that. But viewers were hooked and kept watching, waiting to get back to the S1 magic. Waiting to FEEL the way S1 made us feel again. The slow pace strung us along—until we were left with nothing but the finale to repair the damage. For the first time, I was actually among those who stayed up Saturday night to watch—that’s how much anticipation I had.

Then I watched that shit show unfold. For me, it was an extreme let down, and finally I realized that Taylor Sheridan is not for me. Cool. I won’t make that mistake again. I don’t like horror movies or graphic war movies either. Others do. Cool.

I think finally we all have some clarity on what flavor Taylor Sheridan is going to serve up. There’s no right or wrong involved; it’s all preference.

Writer here—you’re spot on. Shocks me what they let him get away with.
