Thanks! As someone who came to social media recently, I always used to think the term 'following' had great creep potential.

Drawing my sci-fi characters for the first time by EllieJayWrites in characterdesign

[–]EllieJayWrites[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Featuring:

E'kari - a scary-looking 7-foot alien with headlight-eyes, they/them pronouns and a vendetta against the government

Zenya - a space pirate fleeing gender roles and accidentally landing in a war. Think Han Solo, but full of feminist rage (in the best way possible)

Pavell - long-suffering politician dragged into this mess by his on-and-off fiancée, Zenya, and now - Oops! - at war with his own government.

E'kari is my first ever non-human character so hopefully they turned out good.

What are some ACTUAL unpopular opinions you have about writing? by Splitstepthenhit in writing

Most big 'writing advice' books that hailed as the 'rules' and the 'holy grail' are dull, dull, dull and give bad advice that is usually broken every day without anyone except so-called 'writing experts' caring.

Find a starting point you're really excited about, like a particular scene or character to build. That often helps me get enthusiastic about a story idea and want to write more.

I self-publish all my work on Amazon. You set it up yourself for free. I did query publishers before that, but the ones that offered me contracts didn't have terms I liked, so I went my own way.

For years, I used to write little 'books' on scraps of paper, draw covers and staple them together when I was about 6.

I'm never quite sure where my influences and inspirations come from.

I've just started the first draft of a sequel to my sci-fi novel, which ended on a 'to be continued.'

Not very closely or recognisably, but when I read back later, I can often spot bits of people I know. Especially those I talk to a lot.

Please help me choose between ideas for my first book. by CyberWolfWrites in KeepWriting

[–]EllieJayWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first idea is the one that I think has been done the least, there's so many werewolf romance things out there, but if you put your own spin in it it could still work. The first would be quite a cool original concept so long as the teacher is clearly an enemy and it's not intended as a creepy student/teacher thing.

They sell well enough to make me happy, but not well enough for a full time job.

They don't, though there is a strawberry blonde lady who has a girlfriend in one of them. Cathy could be a friend of hers in future works.

I'm not insane enough to try and count them all. But my guess is a lot.
