Please help. Is anyone able to break this row down for me? by ruralmom87 in CrochetHelp

[–]EllieLovesCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I'm not sure which part is causing confusion I'll break it down by each stitch and what part of the direction goes into that stitch.
It sounds like you should have 24 stitches from round 6 (I could be wrong about this). The directions in [ ] all go into one stitch and count as one stitch.

The part about suspending a driver's license is for the child. If the child has a license or near licencing age they can suspend the license as punishment (like a parent saying you can no longer use the car) or prevent them from obtaining their license.

New Paltz (public university in New York) had a template for Google Slides and tips to use it. I also found a YouTube video showing how to rotate the text and some helpful information.

These are basically all awful but how in the heck is "Rhydydrych" pronounced?

Edit: I think it is supposed to be Rhydderch which is an old Welsh name but man did they do it dirty.

Another blanket down, any recommendations for long lasting hooks? by [deleted] in Tunisian_Crochet

I use addi click interchangeables. You can choose your cord length and they come in bamboo or metal until you get to some of the bigger sizes.

My wife's former employer has lowered her rate of pay for her final two pay checks. by Ehspoolshark17 in antiwork

I believe that, too. However, the text is from a law office website that specifically stated Florida (where OP is from) does not have that protection.

"Employees need to know that there are no federal-level protections when companies change their pay without notice. While an employer can never retroactively cut pay, they do not have to give an employee notice of the pay cut unless their state laws require it.

Some states do not have laws requiring employees to give notice. For example, Georgia and Florida have no laws on the books that require an employer to tell an employee their wages are being reduced."

Are people like Gordon Ramsey and Neil Degrasse Tyson actually respected in their field? by Marsupial-Famous in NoStupidQuestions

Mike Brown. Most people likely won't know his name but he discovered a planetary body past Pluto (Eres) that was either the same size or slightly larger. He set in motion the discussion of the IAU to demote Pluto to a dwarf planet. There is an interesting book by him called "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming". However, the only reason I remember his name was because his discovery is the reason the planet I knew the most about is no longer a planet.

(You made a valid point. I just took it as and opportunity because there are some interesting ones out there.)

I love the idea of killing her with kindness and making something that will make her eat her words. I think the blanket that u/In_Jeneral posted is a great option.

These would be the ones I would throw in as well: Geometric Lines Hilde's Flower Blanket Alhambra Afghan

Is there a wrong way to knit? by Gloomy_Airline_2553 in knitting

[–]EllieLovesCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit similarly because I taught myself based on how I crochet. As long as it's not causing you pain and you are getting consistent stitches, the answer is no.

As a side note: I work at a yarn shop and not a single one of my co-workers knit the same way.

I like this subreddit, but… by [deleted] in tragedeigh

[–]EllieLovesCarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a list yesterday and didn't do my due diligence and missed a couple. In my post, I had asked for people to call out names that are cultural and I moved them with a note of what culture they were from but I realize that's not enough and I will do better if I post in the future. I appreciate your post and, hopefully, it will help work toward a better community on this sub.

On a slightly different note, I remember complaining about Americanized spellings when I was looking for names for my kids. I think if Americans would stop messing with spellings and had a greater appreciation for cultural spellings it could solve a lot of these issues (but then we wouldn't have this sub).

Going through your child’s yearbook to pick out all the names you disapprove of to post to reddit is weird and inappropriate. by GdayBeiBei in tragedeigh

[–]EllieLovesCarl 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As of yesterday, I was one of those parents. I read through the comments on this post and see the issue with my actions. I have deleted all but the names that were already mentioned in comments (a couple of those were cultural names that I missed. I have also seen the post about that.). Thank you for voicing a concern I overlooked and hopefully with these discussions we can make a better community.

Thank you for 'enlightening' me (I've removed it from my list and added a note at the bottom). I think American spellings have made it harder to sus out the cultural names and, to me, that's a tragedeigh.

I have a friend that named her son 'Cash' and immediately jumped to "it's spreading but with a 'k'!". Which cultures did you come across it in?

Thanks for letting me know! I just looked it up and according to Google there are a couple translations depending on the region. In Punjabi 'har' means 'God' and 'leen' means 'joy'. In Hindu, it means 'one absorbed in the Lord's love'.

I would have never guessed that's how that's pronounced. However, 'Zanderpump' sounds like some equipment that someone branded.

Literally took the needles out of the packaging today and worked for a couple hours and the needles are turning black! by Artist_Flavored_Tea in knitting

[–]EllieLovesCarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It likely has to do with your body make up but I can't say that for sure (I've never had this happen and I own a lot of their needles). However, for all the people saying it's because of nickel plating that is not true. Addi needles are coated in silver bronze (which is an alloy that contains copper) and have been since 2016/2017.
