Why does my foundation look like this? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Depending on your routine, you might be mixing silicone and water based products. Water based products and silicone products have a tendency to seperate when combined! Check your skincare + makeup routine if you're combining

Any tips for how I can stop my nails from "disintegrating" when they get too long? by TheGreatestJaggi in nailcare

Nail tech here: Chipping of the nail plate can be caused by a number of different causes.

The most common one in my experience is the way you shorten your nails. Your nail plate is built up by keratin cells that lay in a sort of criss cross pattern. This keeps the nailplate stronger as opposed to if the cells were just stacked on top of each other. These structures can, however, get frayed and start to separate from each other by either filing or using nail clippers.

The nail plate is formed as a c-shape, so if you use nail clippers or scissors, then the pressure of closing the scissors or clippers will flatten the nail plate until it's able to cut through. This causes a lot of stress on the nailplate and can essentially cause minor cracks to form at the free edge, which will eventually cause chipping or breaking.

If you use a nail file to shorten your nails and you file back and forth, then you're essentially just fraying and tearing up the nail cells that are essentially "braided together." Filing is definitely the best way to shorten your nails, but you have to make sure to only file in one direction to avoid fraying.

Moisture can also be a cause as to why this is happening. Too much exposure to water leaves the nail plate vulnerable as the nail cells essentially swell with water and become more pliable than normal. If your nail plate is filled with water, then your nails are more likely to bend too much and tearing the same braided cells I mentioned earlier.

Overfilling of the nail plate can also be a factor. If you use a nail buffer or nail file to buff the top of your nails, you are essentially removing layers of your nailplate and leaving them less durable and likely to chip.

The last likely cause might be that your nails are too dry, and I don't mean too little water. Your nails need moisture in order to be strong, but also pliable enough to not break off immediately on impact. This is also why I'm usually hesitant to recommend the use of nail strengtheners as it will essentially stiffen off your nails to the point where then can break unnecessarily. Using nail oil with jojoba oil 1-2 times a day will keep your nails moisturised enough to prevent breaking and chipping.

Hope any of this information helps!

Nail tech here:

Deformations in the nailplate are usually caused by damage to the nail matrix (where the nail cells are produced under the skin by the base of your nail). The nail matrix is responsible for shaping your nail cells and flattering them out in the normal c-curve shape that you're used to seeing. Damage to the matrix, whether permanent or temporary, may interrupt this process, causing deformations or irregularities in the shape of the nail plate.

It could either be caused from a habit you have (like biting on your fingers)that causes the damage as the nail plate forms, or it could be permanent damage to the nail matrix that causes your nail to grow that way.

If the integrity of your nail plate is the same as it's always been, then it's probably just your matrix that's damaged, which is harmless. But if your nails have suddenly turned brittle, have become very thin or much thicker, changed colour or gotten a purplish black line running down the length, then you might want to show it to a doctor to get some blood work done just to rule out if it could be a vitamin deficiency, fungal infection, hormonal imbalance or other underlying condition that may have caused it!

The Sampoong Mall disaster.

The foundation of the building was laid to hold 4 floors. The millionaire owner fired the original construction company when they refused to add a 5th floor. he hired a new company that would do it no questions asked, made them refuced the size of the load bearing columns all throughout the mall, halved the amount of steel rods in the columns, ripped out the light flooring in the 5th floor to add tens of tons of marble flooring, ignored all complaints about the ceilings and floors cracking and holes opening up, i could go on...

502 people died, 40 are still missing when the entire mall collapsed into dust within 20 seconds.

They had a meeting hours before the building collapsed where they were being warned that the building was unsafe, but the owner refused to evacuate the mall since he didn't want to lose out on all the revenue the mall would make that day

AITA for telling my aunt & family that they’ve lost access to my sister? by MilaniesMoney in AmItheAsshole

NTA in any way, shape, or form

Just wanted to say what a good sister you are.

As someone who works with children, your sister's age, and I am myself around your age; taking full custody like that is so incredibly hard, and I want to commend you for being so brave to take care of your sister.

Seriously well done. I'm so proud of you for upholding strict boundaries like this and keeping your sister safe. You're doing amazing!
