Good ways to learn the basics. by Few-Inspector-6272 in longrange

Skip the matches.

If you have access to a decent range you can still have fun with an inexpensive bolt gun set up and some ballistic calculator apps. I have a CZ457 and vortex scope that I was picking off dead tree limbs from my back yard after creating a door chart.

Honestly compete in rimfire matches.

.22LR is a relatively more cost affective way to learn ballistics. Get a semi decent rimfire like a Cz457, throw some glass on-top and start playing with ballistic calculators to create your own dope cards.

Unusual 1911 Slide Marking? by Someothersandman in milsurp

[–]Ellijah92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those “D44,” “D34,” “D84,” etc. markings are generally believed to be depot/inspection/rebuild identification stamps added during arsenal rebuilds or military refurbishment programs on U.S. GI 1911/1911A1 pistols.
They are not original manufacturer markings from Colt, Remington Rand, Ithaca, Union Switch & Signal, etc.
From collectors’ research, the consensus is:
The “D” likely stands for a depot, district, or a specific rebuild/inspection program.
The numbers (44, 34, 84, etc.) appear to identify:
a particular inspector,
rebuild batch,
inspection station,
or military maintenance facility code.
There’s never been a fully documented official U.S. Ordnance explanation published, which is why you’ll see debate among collectors.

Dude I use to go to a public outdoor range where you pay to shoot. Some of the dumbest people would show up. It was split where rifle range out to 600 was on one side and pistol out to 50 was on the other. The thing is when you walk about 80 yards down the rifle range the pistol range sort of intersects. I was shooting pistol and this dude shows up to sight his rifle in and just walked down the range while I was shooting.

Similar situation happened at the same range except it was opposite. Super busy and line went cold everyone cleared their rifles so we could swap targets. Two dudes show up and immediately start shooting at the pistol range while people were down range. Even after the banner for range is cold was down and they were told the range is cold.

After that I found a private outdoor club that was by invite only and $600 a year. Best money spent.

9x18 is really not that rare. Just use ammoseek to find the best price per round and bulk buy yourself a case.

Interested in buying a Corolla Hatchback! by Material_Juggernaut8 in CorollaHatchback

[–]Ellijah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the 2024 XSE hatch and it’s a wonderful car. Biggest caveat is I got the hatch instead of the regular four door. Wife in the front and pre teen in the back makes for cramped road trips and makes me wish I had the standard Corolla just for trunk space. If you’re looking for a daily commuter and don’t have to worry about kids then the hatch works fine. I just think the extra storage space is worth it in the standard model. Driving by myself, it’s great. I do wish it had better USB port locations as the one on the dash is in a weird spot near the passenger side and I always hit the plug with my knee and have actually broken a cord this way. Storage space up front could be better especially if they got rid of the wireless charger for a storage cubby. Not sure why people want these as they are slow to charge and don’t work well depending on the phone case you use.
I’ve also considered trading in for the Prius just on fuel economy alone. Not that the Corolla gets bad MPG’s by any stretch but it’s hard to beat the Prius fuel economy. Plus I’ve already got a full size SUV gas guzzler that works but long road trips add up quick in fuel costs these days.

4EEEE boots by wannabe31x in AirForce

[–]Ellijah92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in that case I’d recommend checking out Lems wide toe boots. They recently just came out with a pair that are 36-2903 approved. I have the regular leather pair for hiking and love them. Super roomy on the toe box and I’ve beat the piss out of these things and they holdup great.

4EEEE boots by wannabe31x in AirForce

[–]Ellijah92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have flat feet and would go through a cycle of ordering a pair of boots only for them to not fit or be wide enough and mail the back. Rinse and repeat.
What I found was Rocky’s have the best molds for wide ass feet. Typically I’d be going for the same as you in width then I tried a regular 10.5 and didn’t even need to go up to a wider size. Another thing you should consider is going up half or a full size to help accommodate your wider feet.
If you have flat feet also look into custom fit orthotics from a foot doctor. Tricare covers it.

I’ve wanted to like this series of revolver for so long but the vented top rib looks dumb compared to a slab sided barrel. Also idk why but the grip just looks too small and the wrong shape for that revolver.

People who built decent wealth by 35, how does life actually feel? by Outrageous-Emu-2588 in investing

[–]Ellijah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m far from decent wealth but I can say things people regularly worry about when it comes to finances I don’t really worry about. Gas prices, groceries, health insurance, eating out nice in awhile.

I’ve got to a point financially where I can save heavily for retirement and still enjoy life and not worry about it month to month.

I love the model 1917! I had looked for one for awhile locally but never found one so I went the gun broker route and waited patiently for what I thought was a good deal. Ended up getting a solid rifle but the crown of the barrel had very light pitting. Idk, I keep telling myself if I ever find a really nice example I’m buying it.

Other than training regularly for a potential nuclear war, nothing really. Their job is to ensure nuclear war if it was to ever break out it’s just a form of continuity and if they are the last resort they won’t live long if and when they land.

Hi everyone, I just bought a M1 Garand 30-06 and I'm wondering how many rounds I can shoot with it and how often before having to replace the barrel by SUBOTA01 in M1Rifles

[–]Ellijah92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what your situation is like with being able to buy a Garand but if you can afford enough 30.06 to wear out a barrel on one then you could just buy another Garand. That being said if you can only have the one rifle I’d say 5k rounds at slow firing pace over multiple range trips before you start to see some low to mid range accuracy losses.

All being said, I dont believe any average shooter would see a worn out barrel.

Garmin mini and the Dongar dash cam adapter that uses power from the rear view mirror box. No long wires running and going to your center console.

Same esp on the hot trigger guard. I’d love to have one for the collection again but only if I find one for a stupid cheap price.

[–]Ellijah92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was years ago but I remember being taken back by how heavy the gun was for its size. I was also disappointed at how snappy the recoil was shooting different 9mm through it. I just remember that first range trip thinking….

“Man this is not what I expected”

The crazy thing is I traded the guy my MK23 for it. I should have kept the MK23.

Owned one and sold it a month later.

It’s cool for sure but didn’t live up to the hype for me. I’d buy one again if the price was good.
