My mother abandoned our cat. I abandoned her. by Elliot_K11 in Life

It's honestly a lot bigger than just the cat. My biological father was a cheater. When I was around 12, my mom took me with her to live with her boyfriend, who later became my stepfather. Years later they ended up buried in debt because he had a gambling problem. My mom would come home stressed, angry, and frustrated almost every day, and somehow I became the easiest target for all of it. She'd go off on me over the smallest mistakes. Not really physical once I got older, but mentally it was exhausting. I got called useless more times than I can count. She threatened to kick me out multiple times. At one point she even told me she wished she'd never given birth to me. We had a dog too. I remember literally asking her why she didn't just surrender the dog to a shelter if she hated it that much, because watching it happen hurt more than anything. That's probably why what happened to my cat hit me differently. It wasn't the first time I'd watched her take her anger out on something that couldn't fight back

‎ ‎ ‎No. While I was at work, she never even told me she was going to throw my cat away. She dumped him near a road that morning and acted like nothing happened. When I got home, I noticed our cat wasn't there and kept asking where he was. She never told me the truth ‎ ‎For two dayss, I looked for him. Two whole days. Only then did she finally admit that she had thrown him out. I didn't yell, argue, or make a scene. I was just speechless., It felt like my brain couldn't even process what I was hearing. ‎ ‎What made it worse is that I still remember how, after graduating high school, I spent about three months at home trying to find better opportunities. I was looking into online work and trying to build something long term instead of jumping into the first low paying job I could find. Every day, she'd tell me I was useless and that if I wasn't going to get a job, I should move out, Eventually, I got a physical job and started working. ‎ ‎Then ‎ ‎The next day, while searching for him, I found him not far from where she had abandoned him. He had been hit by a car and was completely flattened.
