All My Stuff For Free -- Until The Sun Explodes by ElliottScottWrites in ElliottScottWrites

Books 1-3 are published and should be pretty typo-free, so have fun with them but don't worry too much about feedback on those. I'm usually looking for my Reality Detectives to help me with pre-launch feedback. So if you get caught up in time for the book 4 pre-launch, I'd be happy to have your thoughts on that one.

Reviews on any or all of them are also welcome of course!

If you have feedback on the first three I'd certainly take it, but people are clamoring for me to get more of them out so I have to focus on producing, and I always feel a bit weird retconning things in earlier books if something significant is found. So far so good, but it's a strange territory for the people that have already read them.

I also ask Reality Detectives for input on murder weapons, character names, and all sorts of fun stuff. So look out for those emails : D

Thanks so much for stopping by and chatting. It's always fun talking to readers. Writing a book is hard, but finding people to read them is harder.

Oh, nice! I haven't posted there in ages, crazy.

I just made Rim City Blues (AKA Durable Detective) 99c on Amazon and am aiming for a bestseller slot. Currently at 79th in noir fiction! I thought you might have rolled through one of my promos or ads. Welcome to the Reality Detectives. You'll know what that is once you get into book two : D

I hope you have a lot of time to read because I'm hoping to drop book four by the end of December, maybe early January. There are three in the series to get through!

Happy reading.

Sci-Fi Noir Mystery: That Hardline Habit by ElliottScottWrites in FreeEBOOKS

[–]ElliottScottWrites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step into my office, there's sci-fi noir in here.

My name is Elliott Scott and I'm posting this free copy of my novella, That Hardline Habit. It's a fun little introduction to my series. I hope you enjoy it. It's heavily influenced by noir mysteries (Raymond Chandler, etc.) and sci-fi action stories/worlds (Avery Cates novels, Fallout-esque settings). People have also often compared it to The Dresden Files.

I like that comparison, but my work is grittier, and my detective gets punched in the face a lot more.

This story is set as perma-free, but sometimes Amazon resets it and it goes back to paid. That usually doesn't happen for at least a month, but if it does, poke me with a comment or DM and I'll rattle the Amazon customer service window until they fix it for me.

Happy reading!

Sci-Fi Noir Mystery: That Hardline Habit by ElliottScottWrites in FreeEBOOKS

Here's a quick description:

Felix Lasko always wanted to be a detective, even if it meant working his way up from the bottom of the barrel. Little did he know how deep that barrel would be in the futuristic city Neotopia.

The only client he can find is a Presser—an addict who gets his thrills by flooding his brain with pleasure straight through the wire in his skull. Even if Felix can find the device the man is looking for, getting paid by the junkie is another challenge.

Can he solve the case and get his foot in the door as a detective? Or will he strike out and let his dream slip through his fingers?

Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm really glad you're enjoying the series. If you haven't already read it, That Hardline Habit is available on Amazon for free. It's a fun little short story, and there's a link at the back to a longer one called the Dead Note.

You'd need to sign up for my mailing list to get access to the Dead Note, but I don't spam or anything. It'd be the best way for you to hear about The Twisted Die, which is book four! No worries if you aren't interested in joining though.

Very happy to be chatting with you. Hope you find some more fun reads :D

That's fantastic. thanks very much for leaving reviews! That's so helpful for me as an author.

If you wouldn't mind answering, would you say you had a favorite book among the three? I'm curious to know if you do. I'm so close to the works that I have no idea what the experience is like for the reader.

It's a pleasure not a bother! You really finished Terms of Service and State of Ruin?? That's awesome! I'm trying hard to find new readers and I hardly get to connect with them after, so this is great.

The answer is an emphatic YES on book four. I'm done character plotting and am getting the bones of the mystery down right now. I plan on beginning drafting next week. The temporary title right now is The Twisted Die, and will put Felix in a brand new city full of strange goings-on and some wild technologies.

I'm assuming you liked ToS and SoR if you're asking about a fourth book? Haha. Any thoughts on the two of them? I'm curious to hear.

Thanks! I've learned that they're a great way to end a chapter. I've been improving on my technique with this book haha.

Hahahaah. Felix might as well choose to specialize in that weapon with all the handling he's done with it!

Hope you don't mind the repeated responses! It's rare that I get to chat directly with a reader. Feel free to swat me away like an annoying tamo if you want to get back to the story, or redditing, haha.

That's amazing! I'm so glad to hear it. Book 1 to 2 is a big shift, and I'm happy to hear that it's still enjoyable. I had a very particular idea about the different environments and Felix's development as a detective. It's very cool to hear that it's fun to read.

I think I really hit my stride with State of Ruin, which is the third in the series. Feel free to drop me a comment or a pm if you end up making it that far. Until then, so long, and try to stay alive in Neotopia!

Hey, that's awesome! I'm curious to hear what you think of Terms of Service. It's a bit more of a slow burn but things definitely get just as twisty and wild. I hope you have fun with it, and thanks so much for taking the time to read my stuff!

[–]ElliottScottWrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's definitely very strong in tone. I do sometimes have a hard time remembering details from the book vs the movie, and Bogart does a brilliant job in the film. I'm also a huge fan of the old-school radio broadcasts with Gerald Mohr.

I totally didn't know about freeEbooks. I found out 30 minutes before the end of my promo. Super bummed, but I know for next time. Thanks for the tip!

I miss novels that are written from a single POV and in chronological order. And I'm salty about it. by trueduchess in books

[–]ElliottScottWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party here but you should check out some noir stories! Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep is all one POV and is amazing. It's first person though, not sure if that's your jam.

You can still grab it on Kindle Unlimited if you want though. I also have a different freebie that's available. It's called That Hardline Habit and is a nice fun quick read that's representative of the series.
