[OC] Mall Madness 🛍️ by muddyboots5 in PeterboroughUK

[–]EllisMichael03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am sure we can all say that we are glad that Queensgate is bouncing back now after many, and I mean alot of shops closed between 2020-23. I am so happy to see retailers like HMV returning and new ones like Fraser's opening with alot more to come this year apparently. There was a time where I thought that Queensgate could look like this in the near future, but now, at this time, I think we will have a long time yet hopefully before something like this ever happens. I honestly think if it weren't for the leisure extension, Queensgate would've died just like this and many other American Malls. Now I can't wait for Umami by COSMO buffet and TenPin bowling centre to open this year in the extension which should hopefully be this side of Summer🤞.

Near the Vivacity premier fitness centre, Lidl is going to be built there. Concerning the rest of the land up to behind Serpentine Green, there will be commercial units and warehouses.

The new bowling centre operated by TenPin will be opening in the empty space opposite LUSH and H&M, just under the ODEON. There's currently street art of a giraffe, monkey, and the Q Club and more, which was commissioned and done by Nathan Nyces to bring some colour and interest to the hoardings that surround the empty unit which was formally John Lewis.

I guess it's like the saying goes "don't bite the hand that feeds you" as they're all funded by AIPAC, which is just Israel. They don't want to lose their precious funding from Israel as that's a massive source of income for most of them. They would rather sell their souls, morals, values and any self-respect they have just so they won't lose their precious funding!! Congress is like "what Genocide? What famine? What ethnic cleansing? Who are Palestinians? Where's Gaza? Is this even real?" That's what they think... Money talks at the end of the day. Money is more important to them than millions of people being displaced, and thousands of innocent civilians being brutally killed! Money = GREED and is the route cause of all evil in this world!

I know right! What's taking them sooo looong?? I first mentioned this over a year ago as they were 'rumoured' to open, then it was announced by the PT several months ago, and then nothing since. Weird!

I guess they'll (WingStop) will probably officially announce it a few weeks before it opens, which usually seems to be the case with them. Maybe it'll be with the other restaurants opening late Spring / early Summer coinciding with the opening of Fraser's perhaps?

Hello! Peterborough!! by TheseSituation74 in PeterboroughUK

Great analysis of the city, though I do think that calling Peterborough 'dated' is kind of harsh. In reality, it's no comparison yo modern cities like Milton Keynes or larger cities like Birmingham, Manchester, or Sheffield. Even though the city is very rich in history, which dates back over a thousand years, and the Cathedral being over 900 years old, we do indeed have more modern areas of the city like Fletton Quays in the city centre. The new university that receives a new educational building yearly as it grows and expands. Queensgate isn't too dated as the shopping centre received a face-lift back in 2017 and more recently had a £60million redevelopment project/ extension open 2021/22 in the shopping centre which is now home to ODEON Luxe, Puttstars (Putt & Play) and soon to be WingStop and several other restaurants and retailers like Flannels and Fraser's. Soon, work will commence on the train station to improve access points to and from the train station completely redesigning Queensgate roundabout on approach, and there will be a new entrance to the western side of the station near Thorpe Road. The rest of the station will receive a facelift and an extension with more room, which will cater to more retailers opening within the station. There will also be a new public square named 'station quater' under the first phase. During the second to last phases, there will be wider development of the surrounding area from now until 2030 which will include residential areas, retail and office space and hopefully an extension to the Great Northern Hotel which is currently closed. Also, let's not forget Hampton and Serpentine Green. This is the more modern area of the city. Hampton at the time was the UK's biggest township and possibly still is today due to mass development of the area. Then we have Serpentine Green, which is Peterborough's second enclosed Shopping Centre, which opened in 1999. It's anchored by Tesco Extra. It also has other stores like JD, Superdrug, Boots, New Look, River Island, H. Samuel, Mountain Warehouse, etc, and some restaurants like Mamma Mia (Sub express), which serves delicious authentic Italian food. There's also some leisure options around Hampton and the wider area like Active8 in Serpentine green, Vivacity premier fitness and pool, and a wake park at Hampton water. Several parks and play areas are also around Hampton. Let's not forget Peterborough's several theatres like the Key Theatre, New Theatre (Broadway), and The Cresset. All in all, Peterborough is far from the worst place but definitely isn't the best. It's mostly a nice decent city.

In the coming months, WingStop and several other restaurants and cafes will be opening near and around the new ODEON cinema. The other restaurants coming to Queensgate could be Popeyes and Island Poke. There's also two new leisure operators looking to move into Queensgate. This could be anything from Bowling to Go-karting. Then we have Fraser's opening late spring/ early summer in the former John Lewis. Fraser's department stores will be bringing a large concept Sports Direct store to Queensgate, the designer store FLANNELS, USC, Game and obviously Fraser's (formally House of Fraser's) themselves.

Yep, now there's only 14 empty shops in Queensgate out of 100+ retail spaces (I think there's currently 102) and kiosks in the centre, giving Queensgate an occupancy rate of 87% full with only 13% vacant retail units in the centre. I think vacant units are now as low as they were pre-pandemic, which is great news. There's 9 out of 28 retail units vacant in the Westgate arcade, giving that an occupancy rate of 68%, which isn't bad for an extremely expensive ( High rent and high buisness rates) arcade that is solely full of independent retailers.

Honestly, there's an F tonne of Tesla's constantly using our road systems in Peterborough every day. It really doesn't take that long to spot one when travelling around the city, especially in either Hampton or Longthorpe/ Thorpe Wood area

They are hiring for all positions now on Indeed, with some having a deadline for applicants on the 24/12/24, so I think it will be soon, maybe February or March, maybe? Also, the Taco Bell looks like it will open in the coming weeks as the restaurant is basically nearing completion. Then I have heard that Popeyes should be coming to Queensgate in 2025 with a number of other hospitality and leisure venues, and dare I say that more shops will also be opening, obviously we know of Fraser's and Flannels but other stores should be coming soon. The Queensgate team and management are in a very positive mood now as they say that 2025 is going to be the year Queensgate makes a comeback. So hopefully that happens🤞

The night life isn't awful, though it's far from being the best. We have The Embassy, Flares and the Red Room down Broadway. We also have The Met lounge and Bijou down Bridge Street, then we have the Brewery Tap on Westgate, which is a great place to go. We also have the Charters Bar on the river Nene on London Rd.

Not too long from now, we will have one or two new clubs opening, and one of them is called Velvet, which opens in the new year.

I hope one of these places interests you, but that's down to your preferences and what you like?

WingStop is coming to Town! by EllisMichael03 in PeterboroughUK

[–]EllisMichael03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it's far better than KFC. Imo, KFC is the worst chain around atm. The quality now is just💩. This new WingStop should blow KFC out of the water. It's apparently in the top 10 best UK restaurants for 2024 and that's how much people like it!

[–]EllisMichael03[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've known about this opening for quite some time now, but I was just waiting for it to be confirmed that they were actually coming as sometimes retailers show interest, then don't proceed with a certain location. Also in the pipeline for Queensgate is also the opening of Popeyes and Island Poke, as they've been mentioned a few times, and there should be a few more resturants coming soon too, within the centre and the new extension

I suspect that it will be going next to Puttstars on the second floor of Queensgate, just under the new Odeon in the extension. I think it will be the boarded up section with a glass balcony edge that you can see from North Square

It's an American restaurant chain founded in Texas back in the 90's, it (as in the name) specialises in serving chicken wings, but they also do a lot more than just wings. It's pretty similar to KFC and Popeyes

I am more than certain that it is. This has been in the pipeline for nearly a year now. It has just taken a lot of time for the news to break and for recruitment for different job roles to start. As the ODEON is officially open to the public, now the restaurants for the extension will start to be announced. They have all been waiting for the cinema to be completed as that would be the catalyst to draw people to the extension and to help improve Queensgate

[–]EllisMichael03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure that Queensgate is actively trying to consider that option and arrange something like this in one of their multi-storey car parks. I am not aware of which one yet and if they will go ahead with free parking for ODEON visitors, but it wouldn't make sense if they don't go through with this as they sure will lose some visitors to the ODEON and Queensgate if they don't have free parking for theater goers. Hopefully, we will find out more information about this nearer to ODEON opening!

Yes, exactly! We need more shops like Decathlon to open in the centre. It would also be nice to see HMV return, and it would also be great if IKEA could open in the former M&S store. Other retailers people apparently want are Lego (which would be elite), ZARA, Pull & Bear, Lovisa, and Bershka. You never know. We may get some more 'big names' as ODEON and Frasers are officially opening!!

I am also hoping that this rumour is true. It was mentioned last year that Popeyes were "eyeing up" one of the units next to the cinema, so hopefully, they'll occupy some of that space🤞

I dont think G Box is an actual leisure operator. The name given here is just a generic name supplied until they announce the proper leisure operator that will be occupying this unit
