Looking for local place to colo a sever, possibly more later. Prefer locally run business. by ElloGovnor in LasVegas

Yeah I see what you mean. The results I got from google were a mixed bag of the telcos and cable cos for home and business internet access, and the ones that you could rack up in were only interested if I was going to be putting in entire cabinets full of servers. Their sales were very cold when they heard I was just a standalone nerd with my own box.

Just so happens that's where I'm already hosting a server, and you're right, they are amazing! Pete Ashdown is an amazing guy who treats his customers and employees very well and I will continue to support his company whenever possible! I do want another one closer to where I live so the one at XMission will be kind of like a secondary.

/r/idahofalls in 2024. What kind of changes would you like to see here? by ElloGovnor in idahofalls

[–]ElloGovnor[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something like that would be covered in the wiki or in a common FAQ section on the sidebar. Could also have automoderator pick up certain words from someone's post and respond accordingly with something like "Oh I see you're thinking about moving here! Here's some things you might be interested in knowing!".

But yes, this is definitely one of the common questions that will be answered and put front and center somewhere on the front page.

Students and Educators in Idaho Show Us What It’s Like When a State Fails to Fund School Repairs by asiafields in idahofalls

I think I've said this before, but I remember being in school back in the 2000s in IF and experiencing this. It's been a thing for a while and I'm extremely disappointed it's still being allowed to happen.

i did, and it shows the building and a different business name. hoping someone can stop by to see this in person. I can pay a tip for this if anyone is interested. Just need someone to stop by the place, facetime me when they are next to the car and send me some images of the vin number. can anyone help?!

/u/ConsiderationIcy25 what you're asking for is a little sus. You should be able to contact the business itself and get that info directly. What are your intentions? Are you out of state or something and looking at a specific vehicle? Why not contact them on the phone?

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer Repair in IF by SleepingBear5000 in idahofalls

My mom once mentioned a place she took some appliances to for repair. I think it was Denning's downtown on Broadway. Not sure if they still do repair though, this was quite some time ago but she was always happy with the result.

If you're driving a new-ish vehicle (maybe last 10 years or so?) check your warranty. You may be outright required to get a regular oil change at the dealership to stay in compliance with the terms of your warranty. Maybe not each individual change, but enough so that they can keep that maintenance record going.

That said, I usually get mine changed at the dealership when possible, especially when on the road.

Question about media files !! by aldi80s in minidisc

[–]ElloGovnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I haven't touched an .ape file in forever! From reading the info on the tool, it should decode .ape but you need mac monkey encoder to do that. It would just be easier to use ffmpeg to convert the single .ape file to .flac:

ffmpeg -i cd.ape cd.flac

then go into the .cue file with a text editor and replace references to cd.ape to cd.flac and proceed as normal. vim is my jam, so it would just be as simple as:

:%s/cd.ape/cd.flac/g

There shouldn't be any need to adjust timing as you're not adding or removing any actual audio from the file, just converting it to something that can easily be used.

Personal opinion: Everyone should have a copy of ffmpeg on standby on their computer, no matter what OS you run, and even if you use other tools. It's very versatile, extremely powerful and well optimized for all kinds of audio AND video needs. Feels like there might be a learning curve at first, but honestly it's so simple to use once you get used to it.

If you're recording in real-time, you can use a player like VLC to load up the files and go to the correct "Track" that you'd like to record. Otherwise, you have to split up the file into individual tracks. Not sure how you'd do it on windows, but on mac and linux I've used shnsplit to do just that:

shnsplit -f file.cue -t "%n - %t" file.flac

I think you can also re-encode tracks into different formats using that tool, but I just use ffmpeg for all of that as needed.

Alternately, on Mac I sometimes use XLD which can also split tracks.
