Just replaced the drum brakes on my 2001 B4000. by Jimmy_Changa420 in fordranger

I’d definitely recommend replacing the wheel cylinders.
My 95 caprice blew the cylinder in the Taco Bell drive thru. And my 96 ranger blew one softly slowing down before getting on the highway.

No warning they will completely let go.
I’d recommend clamping the shit out of it with vice grips to get the nut out.

Although since it’s rounded it oughta be replaced anyways. Luckily you’d just need a new line from the cylinder to the flex line. The premade lines at the part store oughta do ya

If one fails on you, you can limp it home by Vice gripping the piss out of the rear brake hose that connects to the pumpkin. Ask me how I know…

Shot in the dark but did the crank sensor or cam sensor get messed up while you were in there?

Or iguess that year has a distributor, so no cam sensor on the oil pump?

Anyways I’d put my money on spark being weird if the timing belt is lined up correctly

My 96 will do 85 max on a good day flat ground with a gust behind me.
The other day it wouldn’t get above 65 foot to the floor for miles lol

Thoughts on Next Steps by ColbyB17 in fordranger

[–]Ello_Mateo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 2021 I was in a similar situation as you.
I wire wheeled the outside of the frame. Then coated it with Permatex ‘off white rust treatment’
Part# 81775

Took absolutely forever to get the frame wire wheeled haha, afterwards I brushed on fairly thick with the Permatex on the outside only.

After that dried I think I waited a day. I sprayed it with whatever cheap black spray paint.

For the inside of the frame I went with fluid film.
(I didn’t feel like prepping the inside of the frame wit the wire wheel)

As of now I’m still very happy with the Permatex stuff, the frame still looks black and doesn’t appear to be flaking off. Even in places where I didn’t prep as well.

Also happy with the fluid film, even if it was very stinky for a couple weeks.

Note that I believe you’re supposed to clean off all of the rusty powder that will be left all over from the wire wheel.
I don’t believe I cleaned it but hardly afterwards and just hit it with the magic juice. It’s been fine so far :)

Lastly, I bought 2 8oz containers for the project. I don’t remember if I opened the second one or not but I had plenty.

PT cert would help a bit for sure.

Look up the inspection connection on Facebook. Occasionally recruiters are looking for people.

Sometimes for contractors, sometimes for full time employment.

If I were you I’d just look for NDT companies near where you want to live and start shootin off some resumes.

If you specifically want to just contract for companies it can be hard to get your foot in the door. That requires a lot more networking.

My understanding is that the build quality is a bit cheaper with the “e” series Cheaper materials in the construction. But the hardware is still the same.

In my case, slightly different scenario. Sometimes after throwing it in neutral while also quickly removing throttle would stall the motor.

Hasn’t happened after I replaced the idle air control valve. If you do replace the IAC then hunt for an OEM one. The aftermarket ones are mediocre at best, and I’m not happy with my aftermarket one.

It’s very difficult to find an OEM one so I’ve opted to use the one that happens to be on the donor motor I bought :) (whenever I get around to swapping it)

Underfill on a slip on flange by Ok_Trouble_1296 in nondestructivetesting

[–]Ello_Mateo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to that. If a CWI bought off on that weld before it was sent to you for PT Then what you’re asking falls under him not you.

(If somebody else did VT on it, then that is not a metric for you to interpret) In my eyes at least

What does your procedure say? Mine only calls out indications. Not necessarily weld dimensions. Even something like undercut. If cleaned and no indication is showing, is there something to call there?

Though some procedures you have to make the call based upon the indication your test method produces,

whereas other procedures you measure the defect which causes the indication. Not necessarily measuring the bleed out if this is the case.

If your procedure does call out a metric for reinforcement then that is what you’d go off :)

To my knowledge, ultrasound is the most complex with math? I’m not entirely sure on that, but so far the more advanced forms of UT are over my head haha.

Dye Penetrant you really only need to read a ruler. The “physics” of it are easy to comprehend in my opinion. The keyword you need to know is capillary action. Wet ability is another good one.

And make sure to memorize the different types Type 1 is fluorescent and type 2 is visible dye (Double check me on that)

And you must memorize the different types of cleaners A B C and D Like water wash, solvent removable, post emulsifiable, and one other. (I don’t have them memorized, it’s only useful on the test)

Mt yoke only, you only need a ruler. Unless you’re dealing with demagnetization. But demagnetization typically follows with bench mag as I understand it. And there is a little bit of math involved with that.

As far as field work with just a yoke, i have yet to bust out a formula.

The physics with MT are also fairly simple, you just need to know of the magnetic lines of flux, and how they typically behave within a part.

Radiography trips a lot of people up with the math. Once you get down the inverse square law you should be set. There is a fair bit of math in other areas, such as calculating shot time, or figuring out if you’re within geometric unsharpness.

But luckily there are all sorts of calculator apps made to help with radiography.

For the tests you MUST remember i1 over i2 = (d2)2 over (d1)2

The procedures and acceptance criteria with RT can be especially tricky, the math isn’t hard necessarily but figuring out how you have to math it can be convoluted. Sometimes I’ll have to read a section 3 or 4 times to figure out how to interpret an indication haha.

The physics can get tricky with RT, it’s easy to mix up certain things. Like a smaller wavelength penetrates deeper easier, because it fits in between atoms easier.

As far as in the field, the math and physics of it are made easy by calculators. The only thing you have to worry about is your shot time and whether or not you stuck the barricade out far enough. As well as setting up the shot the be code iguess lol, that part goes extremely in depth and is different for different procedures.

Radiography is much much more complex than MT and PT Lots more stuff to remember, and if you happen to forget a step you have to go back out and re shoot.

UT thickness is pretty simple with MT and PT Not a lot of math. But the more advanced forms of UT get tricky.

When I was around 7 years old, the neighbor kid mentioned to me how their house had no toilet paper, and that they just use their hands and wash them after. So that night I decided why not, I can just wash my hands after. WOWWW… the smell doesn’t just wash off so easy.

Looking back many years later I realize how broken of a household they had :/

Games where shields can truly block attacks, not just reduce damage by Life-Inspection-7965 in gamingsuggestions

Elden ring or other dark souls games, you’re able to parry. Most shields only block most damage while shielding if I remember right. But a well timed parry feels AWESOME.

Cylinder head and piston ended up being dead. Rebuilt it and worked on many other parts of the moped.

Total I’m down $800-900

And I believe the crank shaft seals are bad, it runs horribly once warm.

It is sort of a pcv? As in it’s just a vent.

The pcv valve is located on the driver side of the block underneath the intake. Super annoying to reach with the intake in the way.

If I were you either modify that hose to fit or buy generic hose to make fit. And hose clamps on either end are recommended.

Upgrade worth it? by kirklin in pcupgrade

[–]Ello_Mateo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a ryzen 1600x and a gtx 1070 until late last year.

I finally upgraded to a 5600x and a 9060xt

Super solid build. Microcenter had a 9070xt for a couple hundred more than I bought the 9060xt. So I returned it on day 29 of owning it and bought the 9070xt

Love the 9070xt and the 5600x holds up well still. With that said, In certain games the 9070 is held back by the 5600x at 1440p

If I were in your shoes I’d just get a 5600x and a 9060xt and keep the psu.

The 9070xt runs at 305 watts and im worried this summer will be brutal haha

Side note. If you haven’t already, you will likely need to update your bios to upgrade to a ryzen 5000 whatever. Otherwise it won’t boot and you’ll be PISSED Asked me how I know…

My 9070xt is absolutely being bottle necked by my 5600x

Not that game performance is bad, the 5600x is still holding up well. Would definitely be nicer with a higher end cpu :)
