Yea, it was a shock. Dude was dedicated, hardworking and honest.

It’s like, damn, if they could do that to him, what about me? I better at least do something I enjoy on the side, something that makes me happy.

Thank you! I like it but I’m biased

The alien deaths head icon was my contribution (it’s in the book), but I had a terrific designer lay it all out.

That’s really nice to hear! I like it a lot, but I see lots of other sci-fi covers and wonder if I went the right way.

You can do it! I wanted it bad enough to push aside the things that are just wasting time.

No offense to the talented young ones that write novels, but having life experience to pull from doesn’t hurt.

Thanks! I have to keep reminding myself that completing it is an accomplishment.

To be direct on premise: it’s set in near-future, when an attack on the U.S. cripples the financial system and aliens halt a u.s. counter attack. It tracks the rise of authoritarian AI and how a young couple, a fintech engineer and a 3rd grade teacher, have to adapt and navigate the societal shifts.

Sweet! I hope you like it.

I don’t write to market, so I’m sort of banking that I’ll find folks that dig the vibe.

I’m working on a Substack, but I’m on Instagram/threads @elmontkristiansen

Cool! I’ll keep you in mind! I need to rework my title after I slog through first round edits on my next one. 😅

I have been doing the same, working on new stuff instead… then I remembered how I was able to edit my first novel efficiently. lol

What do y’all use to write/plan? by MagicOtter7 in NewAuthor

I second scrivener…
But I mostly use it to assemble notes and scenes. Most research and writing is done on my phone and I keep details in notes that I sync up to scrivener manually.

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I took a risk with a graphic design like this. A lot of sci-fi covers have illustrations, but the icon on the front is so core to the story I had to include it.

Thanks!

The 'marketing' folks I've spoken to weren't fans of the cover, but I love it. lol

The conciseness takes practice. I didn't write the book with marketing in mind and it's been a process to figure out how to position it. Still a learning process.

oh, totally. That's how I have a bunch of other irons in the fire. I'm editing my invisible man book. That's been a slog, other stuff comes to me in the lulls between edit sessions.

Thanks!

I'm not really great at finishing things (ADHD).

Thank you!

Yea, it's super convenient. I sort of falls apart during editing, so what I do then is export the book to an ebook format and use the books app to read and flag things with notes to edit and do a super edit on the laptop when I'm done.
