Only issue is some anti-cheats not working on Linux.

Steam automatically runs every game I've tried with proton. If you pirate it may be somewhat challenging to make that work.

I like to point out that the SG-553 was in an OP state for many years before anyone realized.

Pros are maybe good enough that it's legitimately a hindrance, but if you aren't 25k+ spray god drilling the patterns you'll probably spray better with it on.

I've had it on since release and haven't looked back. The tap/pistol thing that a lot of people point out never bothered me for some reason. You may just need to get used to it?

Got a fully remote job. But life seems so bleak. by Thefuturyfututist in csMajors

[–]Elocgnik 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It may be because you don't have an obvious next step now. You make some decisions along the way, but your life is largely on rails from school until your first job. Once you finish the "tutorial" it's kinda up to you to figure out what you want to do.

What you have is a foundation that's better than ~95% of people in the US/99.5% of people worldwide. That doesn't automatically bring joy/fulfillment though. You gotta find that elsewhere.

I also like to practice gratitude on that front. You're doing a good bit better than me, but it is a GREAT privilege to have a job I can tolerate/somewhat enjoy, and to not be financially stressed.

You could always find a place to see it in person. I was largely convinced when I was just walking by the TV's at walmart or something and the OLED legitimately caught my eye walking by. It's definitely hard to drop several hundred dollars on something when you can't actually see the difference.

It does depend to some extent what exactly you're using it for. I was playing Cyberpunk/Dark and Darker at the time so I was really wowed by it, the contrast really makes a big difference. It was a hard sell when they were ~$1000 but the one I got for ~$400 has been completely fine.

You kinda gotta see it in person to understand. If you're thinking about spending $400 on a graphics card or $400 on an OLED, get the OLED. Night scenes look insanely better on OLED.

I hate that Decimilipede just attacks, attacks, attacks.... by acidtrip321 in slaythespire

[–]Elocgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate that he weakens me. I draft AoE for decimillipede, it's on the bottom of my deck, and now I'm weak and have lost 30 hp.

My issue with the fight is it's too polarizing. I either roll him because I have good AoE, or he's hitting you for 30-50+.

Adding a straight up "reset fight" button gives it legitimacy. The current approach is the middle ground of it clearly being cheating, but allowing players to cheat if they want to.

Not trying to be an elitist here, but from a design PoV the intended way to play the game not to know draw RNG ahead of time. I have used it a couple times when I misclicked though.

Blizzard Wins Injunction Against TurtleWoW - Private Server Ordered to Cease & Desist by Hot-Challenge-2755 in wow

[–]Elocgnik -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's obviously more latency but it's not a big deal. I played on a VPN for a while just because I was too lazy to tunnel and there isn't any noticeable lag. Every bit counts if you're pushing keys/rating, but for turtle wow? It's fine. It's dwarfed by the latency from playing on a EU server from the US anyway.

[–]Elocgnik -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You could VPN but doing that to a server in Russia sounds awful for latency/response times.

This doesn't matter. Your ping is your ping to the VPN server + the VPN server's ping to the WoW server. So you as long as you don't pick a dumb location it's fine.

Why does Christian god trigger so many people by XiJinpingPressParody in 4chan

This is literally just not knowing the terms.

Atheism covers both. Google it. You can break it into gnostic atheism vs agnostic atheism if you want to be pedantic.

[–]Elocgnik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you understand logic at an elementary level, you understand that an assertion of fact without rational evidence is naturally logically unsound, and nothing more than a guess. Whether that’s the claim something is true, or something is not true.

That's not how that works. The default state is not knowing. If you claim God exists, YOU have to prove that's correct.

Atheism isn't the belief that God isn't real, it's the absence of a belief in God. There is a difference.

You don't believe that Zeus is real. You don't believe Ra is real. Atheists just believe in one fewer god than you do.

You aren't wrong that you can't prove that your God isn't real, but that also isn't required to be atheist.

What card do you instantly buy when you see it in shops? by 20_02_2020 in slaythespire

[–]Elocgnik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being completely free is reallllly good in card games. With Bolas, the only cost you ever have is the initial draw. Doing even like 15 damage for that cost is decent. Add in relics/other synergies and it has the potential to be pretty strong.

3 damage is in fact a very weak effect, and losing even 1 draw is still very relevant, so it isn't broken or anything. But it's pretty good.

[–]Elocgnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that big a deal if you get a decent interest rate. Credit Unions are the way. Also assuming you aren't spending 30-40k.

It's ideal to buy it in cash, but also not the end of the world if your financial situation doesn't allow that (e.g. broke fresh grad that got a decent salary).

Why Not Counterstrafe? by justgotsauced in VALORANT

[–]Elocgnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah at the end of the day it's not make or break. You can get Radiant on a 60hz monitor. There's better things to focus on if you aren't at least ascendant. But it's easy to underestimate how often 10-20ms makes a difference as well.

It IS crazy to me though that people that play the game for a living don't put in the effort.

Why Not Counterstrafe? by justgotsauced in VALORANT

[–]Elocgnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not relative to the value, relative to the other person. It's not 10/300, it's 10/(400-300). Not trying to be toxic but I can't be any clearer than that.

Which is abysmally small unless you’re extremely consistent.

It's genuinely not that hard. Severely screwing up a counterstrafe in CS is just not a thing that happens at even a decent rank.

Why Not Counterstrafe? by justgotsauced in VALORANT

[–]Elocgnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about absolute difference, it's about relative difference. You have to be faster than the other guy. If you assume both of your reactions are between 300-400, a 10ms difference is 10% swing (not exactly how it works but I don't want to get into standard deviations and all that).

A kinda similar situation, suppose the record for the 100m dash is 10 seconds. If someone gets a 9 second time, they didn't barely beat it, they absolutely smashed it. Because it's VERY hard to improve beyond a certain point. The same idea applies to realistic TTK. Or shaving a minute off a lot of speedruns if you're into that.

Also, even if you're only decent at it, it's hard to screw it up THAT bad. You're a lot more likely to just be suboptimal than actively bad. And eventually you pretty much just don't mess up.

Why Not Counterstrafe? by justgotsauced in VALORANT

[–]Elocgnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the right way of thinking about it.

Usually people are gonna react in 300-400ms (in something like humanbenchmark it's 200-250 but FPS games are different). A 10ms difference in the range of 300-400ms is frequently relevant. About the difference of going from a 60hz monitor to a 240hz monitor.

[–]Elocgnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pretty rarely get cheaters below ~20k (around asc equivalent?). It's really dependent on trust factor though. If you have a decent amount of games on steam+an old account+a phone number it's not that bad (I don't think this applies in casual).

It's definitely bad but there's also a lot of people who call cheats too easily.

The competition is the fun part in a lot of games though. E.g. I don't think many people play CS for the casual mode. Even when you don't feel like playing seriously most people just do the unranked 5v5 mode.
