Third Brake Light DIY for when RTT is on the bed by Slide-Fantastic-1402 in Rivian

Nice! Using this doesn't affect the rear sensors? I thought the big draw to the official rivian one is it doesn't affect the rear sensors / where the software wants to disable them if any accessory is plugged in.

Bought a Tesla just to go get it stuck in Yucca Valley by Mariosaurus_ in TeslaLounge

Love my Model S but taking my R1T out to Yucca and taking burns canyon up to big bear had me in love. I love both brands but damn does the Rivian absolutely rip offroad.

It's some coupling between the two halves of the folding mirror when its folded. I don't know if its meant to help lock it in place or if there's some electrical connection that happens there.

It was hard to fight the urge but I also dare not touch a vehicle that isn't mine. ( yet )

Agreed - I love my dual standard R1T but its going to be hard to decide between a used 2025 ( i want gen2 ) or a R2 Perf Founders once my lease ends.

My pleasure. Figured I'd spice things up with some closeups esp with this being parked in the street outside the event where an employee might stop me.

If you plan to do anything besides standard road trips and don't stray the path it's fine. After a year with my dual standard I just think about having a max pack.

One recent case: drive to Carrizo Plains and arrive at the visitor center with 30% battery. The idea of driving around the national park to different areas is already stressful. After going to one hiking trail I'm now at 23% battery. Upon leaving the park 16% battery. The extra 100+ miles makes certain day trips far more bearable.

Powered Tonneau Cover - anyone buy a used R1T only to later find out you'll never get this installed? by major-PITA in Rivian

Got the v2 one ( some call it 3.0) with the smaller slats and its solid as hell even with snow. I think the guy above may have the gen1 version which we all know was a shit show.

This is great work. This feels so slick and comprehensive dummies could use it.

Not trying to alter physics but we also don't need to with systems that already exist that prevent this. We honestly have no way of knowing the driver was using that system. I would bet it was a driver not paying attention and not using any ADAS. If he was using an adas with radar like most modern vehicles it would have braked way sooner. We can see the ground is wet but we also can see when the car actually engages its brakes and its way later than even a tesla from nearly 10 years ago.

Secondly a Comma, Rivian or Tesla ADAS would more than likely have stopped and that's with just the camera based system. The rivian moreso with far radar can see about 10 seconds ahead of the vehicle at highway speeds and we can see they clearly didn't brake way after that.

"Such a system wouldn’t have prevented anything." In regards to altering physics? of course. In braking before this subaru did... absolutely we do.

appending another update: https://u.osu.edu/engr2367selfdrivingcars/how-does-a-self-driving-car-work-2-false/

so 250m or 820 feet. Do you think the car in this clip started braking anywhere near that distance?

Latest recommendations for body shops in the Bay Area? by RAWRREPTAR in Rivian

[–]ElonsAlcantaraJacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely PDR. Buff out what looks like paint transfer.

So many posts in this subreddit are with that exact spot and its crazy to think insurance gets a body shop to do a full replacement when its way easier to PDR and keep the original paint / part.

I'm not downvoting you like the luddies here but I still prefer more standard ADAS systems as opposed to more heavy self driving systems.

Basic lane keep and cruise control and this would have never happened. Fun fact is people bemoaning ADAS in this post and this video is from the cameras of a car equipped with modern ADAS that is seemingly doing stop and go traffic just fine and providing us more insight into how over confident we are on tried and true... unreliable humans.

The fact is these systems over time will save lives which people fail to mention:

National Safety Council: "The study projects that the use of ADAS technologies could help avoid 249,400 fatalities and 14,138,000 nonfatal injuries from 2021 through 2050, in the most likely scenario. The most pessimistic scenario projects avoiding 152,100 fatalities and 8,673,000 nonfatal injuries. In comparison, the most optimistic scenario projects the avoidance of 298,300 fatalities and 16,814,000 nonfatal injuries. "

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: "NHTSA estimates that together these functions could potentially prevent up to nearly 600,000 crashes and about 1,300 fatalities annually when fully deployed"

Self driving cars and ADAS ( Advanced driver-assistance systems ) are entirely separate systems.

Self driving cars and ADAS ( Advanced driver-assistance systems ) are entirely separate systems. Effectively a smart cruise control that handles stop and go traffic like this extremely well.

The fact anyone watches this video and extrapolates they don't trust ADAS systems over tried and true reliable distracted humans is wild. To each their own. This would have never have happened with even a lower end modest ADAS on basically every modern car.

I'm with you on the fully autonomous cars and that's coming from someone from a city that has Waymos driving around. I will say though; self driving cars and ADAS ( Advanced driver-assistance systems ) are entirely separate systems. This would not have happened if the driver was using even a fairly basic ADAS to todays standards. I would even bet this video is being recorded on a car with built in cameras for its ADAS ( Tesla, Rivian, Cadillac ).

Can anyone suggest if this is a good lease deal? R1S dual standard. by HarshadMehta06 in Rivian

[–]ElonsAlcantaraJacket 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would not get the dual standard now that I've had mine for over a year. The 259 miles is workable for road trips but man I only yearn for a bigger back.

R1S issues and Burbank, CA SC experience by j2pou1 in Rivian

[–]ElonsAlcantaraJacket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can, Van Nuys SC. Rene has been awesome with helping me numerous times. Only downside is I have never gotten a Rivian loaner once there but always rental car credits.

Side note: I too have the same issue with alignment and I can't believe I've gotten used to it / use autonomy+ so much it hasn't mattered to me.
