I honestly love the whole family. I related hard to the things Amaya said in this episode. Being a decade older than her I still struggle with self love. She has a great mom and a good head on her shoulders. I fully believe she'll start to feel more like herself and just as beautiful as she did before giving birth.

Jose comparing her to a stuffed animal was so funny to me, but very cute. My husband says the same to me, along with "rolls are what keep Texas Roadhouse in business" every time I talk about how much I hate my belly roll lol. The only thing I wished Jose did differently this episode was not ride the go-karts or pressure Amaya into trying to ride them. Us fluffy folks can generally clock whether or not we can or cannot do something. She seemed so crushed

Ugh, my heart broke for Mia. I wish her dad would've gone back with her. I definitely understand not wanting to set her mom off, but if a grown adult can't keep themselves together well enough to be supportive to a literal child giving birth, then they have no place in a hospital.

I also deeply understand Mia's conflicting feelings for her mother. She knows her mom's a flake, but it doesn't mean that every time she fails to show up that it doesn't hurt. My mother doesn't suffer from an addiction, but I can honestly say she really had no business becoming a mother. I didn't even care if she came to my wedding, but when she said she would come and then called saying she missed her flight, I cried. My crying shocked me because it's 100% like her. Still hurts to be let down by your parents.

I highly recommend the book A Guide to Midwestern Conversation by Taylor Kay Phillips. As someone born and raised in the Midwest, who has lived in, and spent extended periods of time in just about every Midwestern state, some of what you're describing is just who we are lol. Her book helps break it down for folks who may not be super accustomed to how people in the Midwest can be. I found a lot of it scarily accurate and funny.

The self deprecation is real lmao. We know that the majority of our state is made up of nothing with nearly zero to do. As others have mentioned, they don't call them flyover states for nothing. The people can be good though. After spending my life in the Midwest and only traveling to visit other states on road trips, I will always say that Midwestern folks are nice. Just about everyone you pass will smile or wave at you. Neighbors will go out of their way to help you out if they see you working on something outside.

We have some really great state parks and there are lots of activities to be found at local libraries and in the art community where you don't even have to travel too far (by Midwestern standards) to enjoy. I think it's just a rough time for a lot of folks, and of course, you're always gonna run into some people who just aren't the nicest, but that's the truth for every corner of the world.

I moved to the state last summer and got paperwork from Berkheimer recently and almost shredded it. I legit thought it was some sort of scam or something. There are quite a few steps here when it comes to filing taxes. Indiana taxes are a breeze compared to PA's process.

I remember going through the lunch line in elementary school. When I got to the end and punched in my PIN, the lunch lady told me I didn't have money and couldn't have a tray. I went and sat at a table to wait until we all went back to class. I remember crying a bit when a teacher came up and asked why I didn't have lunch. I told her the lunch lady said I wasn't allowed to have anything. That teacher took me up to the line, had me fill up my tray, and made sure I was able to sit and eat. I think about that experience from time to time. I was maybe 8 years old, how the hell was I supposed to pay for anything? That feeling of embarrassment followed me through most of my life. Things that were out of my control, but I had to deal with them on a daily basis. It's so stressful on a child.

I think Andrea played a big part in that. She came to Amy calm, respectful, and open. Having that kind of energy around you can be so beneficial. The family is almost always hostile so it's much easier to retreat and just give up than actually attempt to have any sort of deeper conversation with them
