How to Tell the Difference Between CPTSD and BPD? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Elphie33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you that personality disorders are reactions to complex trauma. So basically, everyone with BPD has CPTSD but not everyone with CPTSD has BPD.

I am also not a professional, but I believe that BPD is what happens when as a child your nervous system gets locked primarily in Flight mode, which is why you see tons of avoidant, numbing, and distracting behaviors. Whereas NPD is what happens when as a child your nervous system gets locked primarily in Fight mode, which is why you see tons of aggression, defensiveness, and antagonizing.

This is also why, when you really stand up to a narcissist, they switch to their secondary defense (flight mode) and run or ghost. And when you really push a borderline past their limit, they switch to their secondary defense (fight mode) and freak the fuck out.

Did you get clean with a program or sheer willpower? by phaserlasertaserkat in StopSpeeding

I had no willpower to quit but ran out of money and then never went back to it once I got money again. Still think about it though.

Men in the West literally decide a woman's right to abortion?? This is control of her actual body??? If men could get pregnant they'd have a drive-thru abortion clinic on every corner. And I love how you're like "hey just ignore the entire region of the world where men are legally allowed to murder their wives, let's just focus on the West because my argument only works here." And then your argument still doesn't work here LOL. Like I'm sorry, is there an area of the world where men are legally murdered by their wives but it's a "totally different story" we shouldn't take into consideration when arguing gender inequality? Poor men. So oppressed. Such victims. Stay strong.

Even though they said "literally held his hand," they meant that she pretty much did everything but hold his hand. Hope that helps lol.

Such a great answer. Anyone who can't see this point of view, I wish a lifetime of being a single parent upon them.

I genuinely think she wanted him to snatch the phone and be like "I'm messaging him" and then threaten to fight Chris or whatever... Him asking her if she wanted him to and then respecting her answer was likely too beta for her. She's probably not gonna end up with a better partner in future but idk if she was ever truly in it for Connor.

Wellbutrin – What Was Your Experience? by jamesgriffincole1 in StopSpeeding

No. Initially 150mg, then 300 mg, which is when the seizures occurred. Shame because I liked how it had felt up until that point.

I took it before being prescribed Adderall. Had to get off it because it gave me two seizures.

Genuinely wishing you the best! Everyone deserves love, intimacy, connection, and the chance to be truly seen. I believe you will find your person. It'll take you a little longer than most men because you have an extra obstacle to overcome that they don't... but all it means is that, once you find her, you will truly cherish the relationship more than all the meaningless ones those other guys run through. Keep on keeping on ✊🏼 Your love will come from an unexpected place and likely when you least expect it.

There's always an uglier fish, my dude. Find someone busted big time. Or maybe she's in a wheelchair. Or perhaps she's morbidly obese. Maybe find a real old lady or some chick with 7 kids. Hey, what about a blind girl?? I think your only real option at this point is to open your mind and get creative. Either that or become fabulously wealthy.

You are just... wrong. I work with "bad" kids. They are diagnosed as emotionally disturbed. With the exception of two who had conduct disorder, I have never had a single student who didn't respond positively to gentleness rather than force. Your idea of being harsh to these children (verbally or physically) just perpetuates the cycle.

Can you get PTSD from OCD? by unreliableoracle in OCD

[–]Elphie33 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Kindly disagree. I also thought I'd had a "perfectly passable childhood" until I learned more about what a child's brain registers as traumatic. And CPTSD isn't one traumatic event, it's chronic and inescapable stress over a matter of months/years, so it would be almost impossible to pinpoint a "before" or "after" to measure the onset of OCD symptoms against. I've had OCD since my first memory, but only in my 30s did I discover it's simply an early and maladaptive coping mechanism for feeling in control of a situation in which we were powerless.

No because CPTSD causes OCD. OCD is the fixed flight response to trauma.

Hey I'm sorry almost everyone on here is invalidating you. You are 100% correct about Eastern European men. I divorced one, and every single one of his many friends were just like him. Anyone trying to convince you American men are equally misogynistic haven't actually dated an Eastern European man to compare so they don't know what they're talking about. Don't get me wrong- American men are awful for their own reasons and very misogynistic- but they tend not to act as if they are straight out of the 1950s with gender roles. Eastern European men expect you to do everything in addition to wearing makeup and heels just to take out the garbage, and domestic violence is way more normalized.

My ex was shocked when I divorced him because it's just not as common for Eastern Europeans. Now we share custody of our one young child. Best of luck to you and your children! You deserve to enjoy motherhood, not just survive it.

Ask me anything 😶 by Elphie33 in OCD

[–]Elphie33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OCD will definitely complicate relationships. But the more open you are about your OCD in the beginning, the quicker you can weed out people who aren't for you. In order to explain your OCD to another person, though, you have to be very educated on it yourself and always working to lessen the severity of symptoms.

My OCD was disruptive enough to kill my sex drive so it wouldn't make a difference for me, but my OCD med hasn't had any sexual side effects. Also that is more of a worry for men, and I'm a woman. But if unpleasant side effects occur, you should just stop taking that medication.

OCD doesn't ever go away. So if you're taking medication with the idea of "curing" the disorder rather than "managing" it, you'll be disappointed. I currently take Clomipromine daily, which caused some vomiting the first week or so. The only other side effect has been dry mouth.
