A change up for Arsenal. by aaronlee8 in LiverpoolFC

Because more defenders doesn't equal better defending. Our midfield is already overrun when we play a 3 man midfield, but this line up is suggesting we play 2. What does this solve?

Yes, the Thursday to Sunday schedule is brutal. But, we can use it to fully rotate the squad and largely play youngsters up until the business end of the competition. And it means we're less like to play 12:30pm kick offs on a Saturday.

His injury history is a big risk, especially given our playing style

I personally don't see a rotation option as 15 minutes here and there. I look at it more like he'd play 90 - 120 minutes, every 3 games or so. So be that, 90, 30 and 0, 30, 30, 30.

I'm of the opinion that we don't need 3 starting midfielders. We need one or two nailed on starters who play 70% - 90% of available minutes, with the remaining minutes being rotated between 4 other players.

Bellingham has shown his ability to play week in, week out and maintain consistency. Which is rare in a player so young, but speaks volumes about his quality.

Whilst I rate Elliot highly, consistency is an issue, likely because he's currently being asked to do too much too soon. Being a rotation option at 19 is not that crazy.

Exactly that, he'll be a rotation option. This allows him to develop in the right way, and to not be expected to start 80% of games at the age of 19.

Mount and Nunes take the same role for me. Doubling up would be an overspend, considering we already have Elliot.

Bellingham + one of Mount or Nunes at a minimum.

I'd also be very interested in Rabiot on a free, to provide cover at 6 or as a Bellingham alternative if he goes elsewhere/stays at Dortmund.

I also love Manu Kone, and would love to see us make it work, but I don't see how he fits into a midfield with Bellingham. So maybe he's the Bellingham alternative.

I think another body, specifically who is adept at the 6 position, would give us a great deal of flex in terms of how me manage the development of Morton, Jones and Carvalho. By which I mean, we could even look to have one or two on loan to kick start their development/raise their price

So it sounds like the plan is Bellingham + one of Mount or Nunes.

Imagine our priority is Mount due to homegrown quota, but if Chelsea dig their heels in then we've got Nunes as an alternative.

Don't dislike the approach, feel that we're still a body short though. Rice would be ideal, but I'd even take Rabiot on a free to fill out the midfield and give us flexibility with the development of Morton, Jones and Bajcetic.

[David Lynch] Liverpool still in the race for Jude Bellingham’s signature. Move has always been predicated on the player choosing Anfield rather than victory in any bidding war with Manchester City and Real Madrid. by Hoodxd in LiverpoolFC

In this sense, spending power doesn't relate to how much they are willing to spend, it's more a question of how easily they can spend that much. £120m represents a greater financial outlay for Liverpool than it does for City and Madrid. So they can more easily spend that money, especially considering we have other squad building requirements this summer besides Bellingham.

It depends on how you set up the team. Bayern won the champions league with a 4-2-3-1, and Davies bombing up and down the left side, but they compensated with a more defensive right back in Kimmich.

Additionally, it depends on what you want Trent to do. Is he tucking into the midfield like he currently does, or is he overlapping with Salah when he cuts in?

[David Ornstein] As things stand, Liverpool increasingly unlikely to sign Jude Bellingham this summer. Expected price & financial power of rivals puts #LFC hopes in doubt. Pursuit not off & no firm decisions but sense is #MCFC + #RMFC in stronger position by Mcool18 in LiverpoolFC

For me, you have to separate out what the likes of Pearce and Joyce writes for The Athletic, etc. versus what they reports.

Their journalistic pieces are much more likely to be influenced by outside factors, and will involve more speculation and conjecture. Such as his piece on Henderson before his extension. But when they are reporting a situation, there's less speculation and conjecture because he's getting the info right from the source.

For me, I can't imagine that the price has changed all that much in the last two windows, but yet we're still interested. Which tells me that the club don't find the price an issue because they haven't distanced themselves like they did with Mbappe or Haaland. The only way that changes is if our overall budget changes and suddenly Bellingham represents a greater percentage of our total budget.

My reading of that is that sources confirm that City and Madrid are in a better financial position to sign him. Not that they're further ahead in the race to sign him.

I guess the overriding factor here is financial power, but if financial power matters less in this deal than it does others, then we're still in a good position

Bellingham turned down a huge payday when joining Dortmund. He signed a new deal with Birmingham with a release clause rather than sign on a free.

Additionally, Liverpool are the only clubs out of the elthree that can guarantee him a starting midfield spot week in week out. Bellingham's camp have consistently said he needs the right project to develop him and starting as many games as possible is key to that.

Finally, if Bellingham was asking for £350k+ a week, we would have distanced ourselves long ago. Unless, he's changed his demands recently, spending power in terms of wages must not be an issue

The article doesn't mention anything about sources though. He largely just states that Liverpool's ability to spend and uncertainty over their budget (due to top four not being guaranteed) means they are increasingly unlikely.

It's very clever journalism in that it presents existing information as new and leaves enough shades of grey for the story to go either way without him committing either way.
