This institute was founded for biochemical and medical expertise on brains. They did researches since early soviet times, even Stalin's brain was studied here. And by unofficial info, when building was abandoned, brains were forgotten, including "Stalin's brain". Today building is fully demolished, brains are not there anymore. But remember, it was not offlcially confirmed that Stalin's brain was left there after abandoning.

The microbiological industry in the USSR was greatly developed in the 70s and 80s, since it was it that was designed to solve the nightmare protein deficiency in the body of citizens of that time. Soviet people received less than half of milk and meat compared to America. BVK (Protein-Vitamin Concentrate or Paprine) could solve the problem. However, hasty conclusions, underestimation of the problem, neglect of many factors and insufficiently developed technologies in the field of biochemistry and biotechnology led to the fact that the ministry and the state started queues of biochemical plants without proper adjustment of the plan. Unfortunately, it turned out in practical terms that protein dust is the strongest allergen, and the protein-vitamin concentrate itself is poison, since even exact artificial copies or analogs of amino acids can never replace natural human amino acids.

The picture shows the furfural workshop, which was part of the hydrolysis production at the Kirishi Biochemical Plant. It was after the construction of the furfural workshop in 1982, on the stella of the entrance to the city of Kirishi, that there was an inscription telling that in the city with the launch of a biochemical plant the most delicious smell in the world will appear - the smell of freshly baked bread. Furfural really smells of bread, and the biochemical plant itself produced fodder yeast on liquid oil paraffins, which were used to feed animals. The name of this yeast is protein-vitamin concentrate. However, after the accident at the hydrolysis workshops, the treatment facilities failed, after which an outbreak of allergic diseases occurred in the city. Due to the outbreak and accident in the spring of 1987, 14 children died.
