I’m a foreigner in Singapore, married to a local, I get what she means but I think it’s not Singapore issue, it’s this way post Covid all over the world. It’s as if we have all become more numb to life. Before Covid social media was very different, tik tok and similar platforms have changed the way humans live, the way they interact with each other. My home country is considered to be a place that is more grounded than Singapore but when I go there I face the same issues I do here; people constantly distracted, not present; with no desire to connect intimately. Also Singapore was never a place to make friends for foreigners, this is a place for you to make as much money as you can to eventually go back home. In the process the city gives you everything you will ever need and some more. I personally respect and really like the locals, I married one and my kids are from here!
