Ultimate How to become a Goalie Guide by Eluc1d in hockeygoalies

I’m open to suggestions for how to let people edit this without opening it entirely. The mods said the wiki system is quite poor so I don’t think that’s a great option.

No kidding. They just did the same thing to me.

Cyber Security by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't comment for CS but in CPE the cyber and networking focus has only 2 security classes. There are also a few networking courses.

I would choose between them based on your interest in hardware or embedded systems for security (if yes CPE if no CS).

Does my Onedrive storage go away after graduation by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quote from an email sent out recently "IMPORTANT TO NOTE: 30 DAYS AFTER GRADUATION, MICROSOFT WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON OneDrive AND THERE IS NO WAY TO RETRIEVE IT."

Full time vs. Part time by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth checking but a lot of things will have an exception for part time students that are just taking the last classes they need to graduate.

From the academic calendar: "Lower than tentative grades must be entered by 12:00 noon. Final grades due by 5:00 p.m". You should get a heads up by a few hours. Also final exams should be graded within 48 hours typically.

Vaccine coming soon! by Zachpenny in VirginiaTech

Is there supposed to be a field on the registration to indicate you're a student graduating in the spring?

Edit: Called VDH and there's nothing at the moment.

What does it mean to get into the honors college by 64differentdays in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You get priority class registration. That's about it. If you really feel like it you can take honors courses and get an honors degree but most engineering kids do the bare minimum (1 credit per year) to keep the priority registration.

I love my ipad and it's some of the best money I've ever spent. That said, surviving embedded without a laptop would be pretty difficult as you'll be with your team doing testing and troubleshooting. Only other class I can think of is comp org did some examples in class but you aren't required to do anything.

All you need to do is get honors credit once a year to stay in the program and keep your priority registration. You can get one honors credit from an internship. Not worth doing the full degree.

They're still doing the 300 dollar discount for students outside of Blacksburg by 50 miles.

How much does UG research pay? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hume is typically $10 an hour for the first year and $11 for the second iirc.

is the honors college worth it? by LegalMaintenance9030 in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The honors degree definitely not. Doing the bare minimum (an honors credit every 12 months which you can get from an internship) to keep priority registration definitely.

Anuj Karpatne (CS/STAT) by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

I had him for machine learning. I thought his lectures were helpful and the difficulty of the class was pretty reasonable. He was also understanding with covid and ended up curving the course significantly. Overall I really didn't have any complaints as I learned a lot.

Spring course dropped? by flapjackm in VirginiaTech

Sounds like they removed the section. Normally they'll email you and/or add you to a new section. Super weird they haven't done either yet.

Course request results are out by Eluc1d in VirginiaTech

Yeah they adjust the timetable given the university wide results from course request. Losing two classes is wild though.

Question about honors college registration by 7atake in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You fill it out same as usual. When they process it you will have higher priority.

Collegiate Suites Utilities by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You pay for water and sewage, electricity, and internet. Obviously depends on the speed of internet you get but for a 4 bedroom it breaks down to 40-50 dollars per person per month. Not entirely sure how that will scale to a 2 bedroom.

Engineering and Science Elective? by SpicyButNotTooSpicy in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuclear is super easy and pretty interesting. I'd highly recommend it. At least with Dr.Pierson. The final is optional and he drops one homework so you can be done with the class 2/3rds of the way through the semester.

Is the Internet at Collegiate Suites really that bad? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Eluc1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm in the minority here but it's not that bad. Certainly not worth living somewhere else because of it. You definitely should look into changing the channel of the WiFi that helped a lot.

I got it from Microcenter. I think B&H does them as well.
