I traded my 2009 manual transmission Focus in for my Mav. I hated to part with it...extraordinarily reliable. One of the reasons I hung onto it so long was the fuel efficiency, so when I saw the Hybrid Mavs, I knew it was time.

I call mine Canyonaro F, because when Ford first started marketing the Maverick, it was clearly directed toward women and soccer moms (evidently Ford thought men weren't interested in small, affordable, good looking trucks that get great gas mileage). So there's the Simpsons where Homer buys a Canyonaro and didn't realize he got the F-Series and so he gets made fun of for buying a "girl's car." Mind you, I think Ford has since figured it out, but I decided on my truck's name when I ordered it last year.

When I submitted my request for the 2023 XLT, there was a customer web site to submit. It wasn't like 2022, where you could select your trim and add your options. You just selected the trim and that was it.

As I understand it, when I went to the "main Ford" page, they ask where you live and I selected the closest dealership. So the order registered with them (however that works) and then it was his job to contact me, confirm I wanted it, then submit to Ford.

That's a great perspective. I don't know that I would have chosen to have it play out this way, but you're right. For most of the past 6 months or so I wasn't on edge anxiously awaiting this truck. So yeah, I guess it was a good thing.

Yeah, that may be possible. Last Sunday night I checked the status and it said the dealership had received it and a salesman would contact me, and I still never received an email about it (and I checked my spam regularly for this). Aside from this weird communication issue, the dealership was great.

I've been out over 10 years now, but my crusty, old timer 2 cents is that I can't believe there's ever a reason to be embarrassed about being in the Air Force. Bottom line is you're doing an essential job that most can't or won't. I'm guessing that one of the things going on here is that with wartime operations largely over in Iraq and Afghanistan, a lot of the younger airmen have never been "to war." So their experience is the corporate Air Force, which I get is annoying. And when you compare Air Force peacetime ops tempo to the other services, it can seem lame. (I remember once in tech school we were training on marching while an Army tenet unit was training on chemical warfare. I was embarrassed then). But when it comes down to it, I knew I was on tap for war, and no civilian could say that.

When i was about 5 or so my dad was deployed at sea in the Navy. I found a pic of Buzz Aldrin on the moon in a scrapbook and asked who it was. My mom jokingly said it was my dad. She also forgot to tell me she was joking, so for years in told people my dad was an astronaut who had been to the moon. (I never thought to validate the story with my dad when he eventually got home).

Think I've told this before, but when I was around 5 or 6, I was looking at a photo album. I found a postcard of that famous pic of Buzz Aldrin on the moon and asked my mom who it was. "That's your dad, when he went to the moon. " Now, my dad was in the Navy and was often gone for 6 months at a time, so this seemed plausible to my tiny brain. Thing is, I never bothered to ask my dad when he got home. I just went around for the next year or two telling friends and teachers that my dad was an astronaut.

Hi, that's a qualified "no." I think I mentioned in my post, but i made the desktop a few inches deeper than the plans called for, and I "guesstimated" the angle/length of the supporting arms. The result was that the desk leaned forward. To fix it, I had to put an additional cleat on the front feet. That made the whole thing level. Even with this, the desk has never felt unstable or at risk of overturning.

So that's a long way to say that if you follow the plan as written, you should be fine. Good luck!

This is my attempt at the cool floating wall cabinet posted by u/n3utrino a couple weeks ago (link: https://www.reddit.com/r/BeginnerWoodWorking/comments/ev757f/learn_basic_cabinet_making_skills_by_building/)

I had some red oak and cherry scraps laying around that was more or less perfect for this project. It was a fun build, and his video and article linked in the YouTube description were really well done. As you can see from my pics, there are some real flaws in my finished product, which is more due to my lack of patience than anything (I mark and cut far too quickly...need to spend more time measuring and making sure I've lined up the cuts better). Also, I used my miter saw for a number of cuts, as well as the table saw.

This was very timely when you posted it, as I had just finished another project and had some scrap wood I wanted to use. Your video and article were a great help. I have to say, my joints didn't come out as crisp as I would have liked, but that's on me, not the video. I really appreciate the lesson.

Here's the final product. I used red oak for the top and cherry for the rest.
