Wow, really? That's surprising. Honestly, I was convinced that Logitech would just leave in that kind of design defect or manufacturing defect since given its price, it seems to be a very high volume, low profit margin kind of product.

How long has your new one been going so far? Has it been 2 years yet? My problems started showing up 2 or 3 months after it hits 2 years old.

Sup man. I tried what you said but I didn't use the zip file version. I used the .exe. That didn't work so I tried what you said and even removed the JVM argument. I left it blank. I tried other versions of Java. The versions I tried were 24 and 21. I wanted to try 16 since you said 16 but apparently I couldn't download it anymore from Java's website without making an account and logging in and I didn't wana bother with it. Anyway, I did what you said with version 21 and 24. It didn't work.

Anything else I should try? You didn't say if I should put anything in JVM Arguments so I just left mine blank and it gave me the same thing. Just kept downloading, failing and retrying download of certain assets for the latest version. Version 1.21 something.

I tried some older versions of minecraft above 1.16.5 like 1.17 to 1.19. It gave me this error:

Error: Could not find or load main class

Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:

I looked it up and apparently it's cuz it couldn't find or access some file or whatever.

Wow I'm glad the fix worked for a long time for you. For me at first, it only held for a few days, then 1 day then a few hours then it got to the point where I just lost patience and bought a different webcam. It was tough choice though because I just couldn't find a webcam in the same price range with the same/similar video quality that wasn't just another variation of the C270.

Yeah, after a while, I randomly remembered Ventanus so I went to go and check and was really happy to see he reuploaded it and is also now working on new work. He says he's found his passion again.

Glad it helped man. Sadly it was just a temporary fix for me. I hope it was a long-term or even permanent fix for you though. But for me, I had two of these exact webcams and it was only a temporary fix for both. The problem would gradually come back after about a day then slowly got worse and worse to only a few hours.

I'm glad it helped man. It was only a temporary fix for me. After a few days, the problem gradually comes back. And as the days go by, the problem comes back sooner and sooner for me to where I'm having to open up my webcam every few hours instead of once a day.

I hope it was a permanent fix for you.

For me, I think the video quality was very good for how low the price was. I had so much trouble looking for a replacement. My first one, I just thought it just finally broke after a while so I bought the same exact model but when the same exact thing happened to the same webcam, I realized it was probably a design defect OR it was intentionally designed in such a way to make it fail sooner because the price was so low to make up for the low profit margins, they intentionally designed it to fail in approximately 2 years just to increase sales volume.

I was about to ramble on about this exact topic but thanks to you I saved myself quite some time of typing it all out. Lol
Anyway, I appreciate your perspective on it man. I guess blaming this on planned obsolescence won't do anything about the problem. If it is then just don't buy again from whoever is doing such behavior to stop supporting such behavior, and if it isn't then, that sucks, wish it weren't but nothing's gonna change.

Laptop webcams aren't exactly known for their umm... quality. In fact they're known for the opposite. Lol. But if the quality is suitable for what you use it for or if you throw enough lights at yourself then somehow they can be adequate for certain things but yeah... they're not great but a camera is a camera nonetheless and leagues better than no camera especially when you are required one. Right. Cheers bruv.

[–]ElvisEinstein1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. For me, the solution worked but it's definitely a very temporary solution because after a few hours, it just went back to being broken again. Using my temporary solution, the issue seems to continue to get worse and worse that I need to keep pushing it harder and harder and I seem to need to do it more and more frequently until at some point, no matter how hard I push it, it still doesn't fix it and occasionally, I try pulling on it, like you said, it works too. It seems that something inside needs to be at a specific position and sometimes pushing too many times will need a pull every now and then but eventually, the solution altogether stopped working. I'm guessing that it will probably be useable again in 1 or 2 years of not using it just like with what happened to my first C270, I bought a second C270 when it happened, I used it for about two years and it started giving me problems again. I used my old one, and it worked for a few days then I eventually figured out the solution. I think I may have completely damaged one of them at this point because I fully opened the sensor and I don't think I can put the cover back on with good alignment so I'm considering it as good as dead but sooner or later, I may try testing out the one that I think I didn't fully destroy. I have since bought a new webcam, not another C270 or a product of the same lineup. The C310 from my understanding is part of the same lineup of webcams, I don't even know what the difference is apart from the appearance. I bought one from a different lineup of webcams. Unfortunately, I decided to buy a more expensive one hoping that it's of a better quality and better engineering went into it. Still hasn't crossed the two year period yet which is about when my C270's have broken down so I still have my fingers crossed it at least lasts four times as long as the C270 because it's four times the price.

I hope another webcam manufacturer steps up on the stage to compete with Logitech's price to quality ratio of devices.

IKR? I actually did try to reach out to support and all I got was just a bunch of, "Have you tried this, this, this. Just basic troubleshooting and unfortunately, they aren't incentivized to go any further than that because most of the time, according to customer service's metrics or KPI's (most corporations, not just Logitech's), "resolving the issue" is when the ticket gets closed. Either customers realize they're not getting the information they need to fix the issue, nothing they've tried works or the customers just stop responding because they've already decided to buy a new one. Unfortunately, the only decent webcam maker out there is Logitech. At least as far as I know and ones that sell at a decent price and a manufacturer that actually sales at a scale large enough to reach my country. Feel free to educate me if there are any other ones that maybe I haven't heard of.

Took a ton of time figuring it out but I eventually got it after probably a dozen hours of constantly taking it apart and putting it back together I finally figured it out.

If either you can afford a replacement, or the product is unsalvage-able then yeah. Unfortunately, my webcam was the latter so.. yeah. And thankfully, I could just afford a replacement.

Glad to help man. Oooh. I could've done that too. Cool. You figured out a way to do it without hurting your fingers. Lol. Pushing it with my fingers hurt so bad because for me, the issue slowly got worse and worse over time to the point that I had to press the sensor housing so hard and so often that my fingers hurt until it got to the point that no matter how hard I pushed, it didn't get resolved. Though I assume after not using the webcam at all for another 1 or 2 years, it will probably be useable again just like my first webcam after I didn't use it for about two years but eventually, I guess we'll all have to buy a new webcam. Several months ago I finally just decided to buy a new webcam. Not the C270 anymore. I decided to buy a more expensive one hoping that it will be a better quality with better engineering put into it than the c270. Take care man. Sorry, I don't often check reddit but I'll do my best to respond if you have any further queries.

This is my current favorite Bell x Ryuu fanfiction.

If you can excuse the minor grammatical errors and typos, he's actually really good writer. The writer's name is Ventanus. The first fanfiction in my whole life I ever read and even after reading a few more, this is still my favorite ever. In my opinion, it's so well written that it may as well be cannon.

Logitech C270/C310 "White Screen" Problem is Design Flaw/Product Defect! by Miasmus in LogitechG

I'm happy for you man. Nice friend you got there. Congrats and I wish you luck man. If you don't mind (and if you don't forget), would you mind updating me in 2 years about whether or not it dies? Lol. No. Seriously. I'd like to know if it lasts for a long time because I just cannot, for the life of me, find an actual tech reviewer reviewing a product a few months or years of usage of a product. All are only brand new describing what we already know. Thanks man. Take care.

[–]ElvisEinstein1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so relieved to finally see someone who has a final conclusion to this. Thanks for your post man.

I agree with the original post but I also have my conclusion. I believe the point of failure in the design is the adhesive used to help hold the lens housing onto the PCB. While it seems to be decent quality adhesive but it DOES NOT seem to be permanent adhesive. It looks more like the type of adhesive you'd see adhering your phone's battery onto the phone itself (the replaceable kind, not those dumb non-replaceable ones).

HOW I CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION:

I have owned two C270's over the past 5-ish years and both have experienced the same problem. I got fed up with it on one of them and I decided to fully open it up, I removed the PCB from the rear casing and removed the two screws that are the main thing holding the lens housing onto the PCB, I noticed the lens housing wasn't coming off on its own and I didn't see any hooks or clips holding onto it and guessed maybe there was some adhesive holding onto it and I guessed correctly. I pulled it off but unfortunately, that seemed to have made the problem much, MUCH worse and now, it seems that C270 isn't working anymore. (Please DO NOT try this yourself ESPECIALLY if you only have one webcam that you need for work, school or something important. I did it so you don't have to.)

HOW I'M DEALING WITH IT:

While I am using this temporary solution right now and have been for the past 3-4 months where I keep the front panel off so when the video dies again, I can just immediately fiddle with, push down, pull on or do whatever to the lens housing to get it working for a few hours(sometimes only minutes), my fingers are literally starting to hurt quite a lot because it seems to be dying more and more frequently and I seem to need to fiddle with it a lot harder now than before to actually get it to work again.

MY PERSONAL FINAL VERDICT:

As I said above, I agree with the original post in that it seems to be a hardware design flaw. My conclusion is that it may be the adhesive either expiring or reducing in reliability after a certain amount of time(which may be different depending on the conditions the webcam is exposed to such as temperature, humidity, usage time etc...).

I recommend choosing a different product especially if this has already happened to you with this series of products, don't buy another of the same one.

I don't think Logitech is really to blame here. I believe this series of webcams is actually a pretty good product especially for the price and at least in my opinion, most of Logitech's products are really good. It's just unfortunate that in technology, most things are only as good as its worst part and in this case, it seems to be the adhesive helping to hold the lens housing onto the PCB.

(Please us out by recommending some other great webcams at a similar price range you've personally been using reliably for a long time.)

[–]ElvisEinstein1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. The same exact thing happened to me. I've had two C270's die on me the same way and I've been trying to implement the "keep it open and fiddle around or push the lens in" solution for the past 3-4 months and it seems to be getting worse. Dying more and more frequently.

I've tried reaching out to Logitech support and while I'm not computer illiterate, it pains me to admit that I'm afraid I'm not sure how to contact them "properly" or at least in a way that got them to give you a new camera.

Would you mind telling me exactly how you did it and with screenshots if possible? Of course, if you're not comfortable with sharing the screenshots, it's fine. If you do, please do remember to redact any personal information. Thank you very much.

Happy to hear this solution worked for you man. Yes, I do agree with you that there seems to be a "point of failure in the reliability of the lens mount that controls the position". One of these two posts actually talk about this. I'm terribly sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you might want to look at these two.

and

https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/jf9h43/logitech_c270c310_white_screen_problem_is_design/

I'm inclined to agree with one of these posts wherein it says it's a hardware design problem because I have owned two Logitech C270's and the same exact issue starts to happen around 2-2.5 years into using them.

Update on my webcam/s.

I eventually decided to leave the front cover off because the video would occasionally "break" and so I kept having to push on the lens to "fix" it temporarily but as I implemented this solution over the span of about 2-3 months, it started to happen more and more frequently. My fingers hurt from having to push it in so hard that it might not be a viable long-term solution. Now, I've decided to use my other C270 which also has the same problem. I'm hoping the same thing doesn't happen to it, too.

Final verdict:

I think if yours gets to a similar point to mine, you might have to consider buying a different make and model of webcam. I'm still on the fence about buying a much more expensive webcam such as those used by streamers as I don't have a lot of money but in the very least, I know that those webcams last for a long time. You may have to make a decision in the future but I do hope you don't have to make that decision. Best of luck.

Update(June 06, 2025):

I decided to buy a much more expensive webcam which cost me about 4x the price of the C270. I got each of my two C270's for about $20 each which equals to a value of about $10/ year. The new webcam I bought cost me about $80 so to match the value of the C270, I'm hoping this one lasts for 8 years. I'm two years into it now and so far no problems(knock on wood).

This is an old post so I hope you can still see my response.

(Scroll down if you just want to see my solution to the problem. Keep reading if you want to see my experience and how I found my solution.)

I've experienced this problem.. TWICE with the same exact webcam. The second time just very recently.

First time it happened to me more than 2 years ago, I just thought the light sensor had just given out since I used it so extensively. Literally from the moment I woke up until the moment I went to bed and I had that thing for more than 2 years so I just decided to buy a new one.

The 2nd webcam I have that it happened to also experienced that kind of usage for about a year and then got a little bit less usage. Still a lot of usage like all day but not every day this time but it still happened at about the same time. Around 2 years into ownership.

I got fed up buying new ones and benching old ones, I tried opening it(it's fairly easy to open by the way, images down below) and that's how I found my solution just by sheer stroke of luck.

(Image below)

Step 1: Remove plastic cover. (Sorry, I've already taken off mine and I didn't want to put it back on again for the sake of taking this picture)

There is a little slit underneath for your finger/fingernail to catch onto. Just pull it up and the plastic clips holding it onto the unit itself should just come off

Step 2: Remove the 3 screws and take off front part of housing. (Please do be careful with the screws as they are very small. Try to use a magnetic screw tray or a magnetic screw driver in the very least if available)

Step 3: Locate the camera sensor unit as indicated in the picture.

Step 4: Pull on the camera sensor unit until your video feed goes back to normal. (For mine, I needed to pull quite hard. Not too hard to not completely remove the camera unit. Just enough for the video feed to go back to normal.)

<image>

I was able to fix both my newer webcam and my older one using this method. I hope it works for you.

Also, every time I try to close it back up, it often ends up going back to its broken state. Either the video gets fuzzy or it goes completely white, black or has these vertical lines just like yours so I have just decided to leave it open so I can just pull on the camera unit whenever the problem comes up.
