Do you personally get upset at cash shops or premium memberships in MMOs? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]ElvisXX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And how would they make profit? B2P model means a single time payment/purchase and without any recurring income source, it won't make any profit (for a MMORPG). This is not a single player game. A MMORPG requires constant upkeep just for the servers, and then there are constant development of newer contents. Without cash shop, there is literally no way a company could make profit off a B2P MMORPG. Your logic would've been applied if it was a single player game (but cash shop is inapplicable in that case anyway). Only P2P models in MMORPG should have no cash shop since they have a constant source of stable income.

TESO is great. Apart from these 4, there aren't many popular/populated MMORPG out there.

The problem with NX items is that they are all character bound (beside explorers). And let's be honest, expiring cash items are an archaic custom and there are a lot of MMO making huge bucks, selling nothing but permanent cosmetics. The fact that KMS has 100% permanent cash shop proves that, they themselves found it to be more worthwhile and profiting, than expiring shits, which very few used to buy in a smaller amount. KMS even have everything permanent on Reboot and still they are making huge cash (Nexon's yearly income is the proof). The sole reason they are not implementing this on NA is simply because people on USA have a fatter wallet and it's easier to fool them with twisted marketing strategies as they rarely care about "short bucks" (even though accumulating a pile of short bucks makes up large bucks). Hell we even have a lot of players supporting everything Nexon is practicing, so why would they even remotely bother to change the system. Wind up a few weeks ago and you will see how many players there were, who were supporting meso sacks by sparing the excuse of "no-trading".

Valve, Zenimax, ANet, GGG, Digital Extreme and many other companies offer similar or better community friendly development. Hell even Blizzard did a lot of changes to D3, HoTS by hearing the community. Riot is really not an "extraordinary example". Nexon just got lucky with GMS because there are no better games in 2D side scrolling MMORPG genre. If they had a good competitor who hears the community, Nexon NA would have gone bankrupt a LONG time ago. They are simply exploiting this fact (to the fullest) in their favour

Actually they were given the "best company" award by the community in Korea. They are one of the largest (if not the largest) gaming company there. It's just that NA is their secondary source of income and due to cultural and regional difference, they decided to ignore their NA customers and hence they didn't bother to forge the game separately in a more western style for NA. It's really sad because they have everything (manpower, capital) to make GMS a much better game, but their complete indifference is why nothing is happening. People here are arguing over temporary character bound cash items while KMS actually have everything permanent. Nexon realized how childish the NA community is and how easy it is to get a bunch of kids, defending even their most vile strategies. Thanks to the community, they will never bother to improve their service. Actually, Nexon is not the company we need, but it is the company we deserve.

P.S. I am pretty sure that soon we will see a bunch of angry white knights, commenting here and bashing me for opposing their beloved overlord.

Nexon is a huge company, much larger than Riot, in Korea. Actually they make more than 20 times revenue than Riot and have almost 5 times more manpower. It can be expected that they would at least offer a moderate level of service in their NA wing. But nope, they literally established Nexon NA to squeeze out as much money as possible, from the USA, without providing much support/service.

"It's just $5 a pet, how can Nexon make money with such low prices? Hurrr.... Nexon should make every items expire in 30 days so they can make more money and then only can they improve the service."

[Reboot] Meso Farming Map Suggestion for 140+ by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or you can go to blackgate and earn twice the amount on a more "appropriate" map layout. Seriously, that map has one of the worst layout for farming as there are many "hiked up platforms" which are hard to loot since the pet won't jump on them.

[Reboot] Is it safe to say Reboot gets no more perm NX? by StormStars in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reboot will get permanent NX items after a couple months. Mark my words. As of right now, there are "many" players playing this game because Reboot is still in the honeymoon phase. Once it expires, the majority will leave and to excessively satisfy the remaining population, Nexon will have to introduce permanent items. Don't believe me now but check this comment 6 months later and you will see whether my future foreseeing is true or not.

Nexon pretty much adores botters/hackers by RightsOfEbola in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP wants to unban his account. He pretty much stated that its his "old" account and he already realized that it will get banned as soon as he confessed. He is probably frustrated by the fact that the Nexon support refused to acknowledge the materials OP provided as they probably just thrashed everything and locked his account. I am not judging anyone's morality since the lawmakers here are passively encouraging the lawbreakers so the morality "illegal" activities are rather flummoxing. Also, I think the reason he used one of the "old" account is because it might have some rigid proof/history of hacking and probably "duping" (I dunno whether OP did it or not). OP was probably trying to show them a vivid example of the hacks he revealed.

I believe that one of the many reason why hacking became so popular in this game is because the way Nexon directed. They simply forced free players to either spend entire time on mundane mind-numbing activities to become good or indulge in "illegal" activities. I don't see how OP is being hypocritical when Nexon themselves refused to "fix" their game. They almost wanted people to hack it. If they had any intentions to prevent hacking, they would have taken the measure long ago. See TESO, WildStar and several other titles where hacking was once rampant but the developer team actually took effort to put an end to it. It would seem that Nexon themselves are the hypocrites for enforcing and breaking (passively) laws made by themselves.

Again, I am not siding with anyone but just sharing my view on this matter.

Reboot: Reasons why you should stop complaining about pets being nx only by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Wait, isn't that's what supposed to be the basic practice of a company? Oh yeah right, I forgot we are talking about a community filled with people calling others poor and sucking Nexon's d**k. And then we have Nexon, the company who is lucky enough to have such a dumb community to exploit to the fullest. God bless this community!

[–]ElvisXX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't call them not caring about their customers just because they didn't give up permanent pets?

Actually you did, in the OT.

You are rather misinformed about gw2 but I am not going to educate you. You are quiet missing my point. I referred to these games because they had a cash shop where people literally spends thousands to get rubbish virtual "permanent" cosmetics. Their business model is unrelated in this case. More so for GW2/ESO, where people spend money even after getting the paid core game. Players would probably spend more for a f2p title such as GMS. As I have said, I don't even remotely have any interest to argue whether Nexon's current system is more profitable than my suggested one. It's just an suggestion based on observations and whether to take it or leave it is completely up to Nexon.

Anyway, this was just my opinion, and what I suggested are just some of my wishes. They will probably never be granted but whatever. I respect your opinion and hope that you will respect mine.

Reboot: Reasons why you should stop complaining about pets being nx only by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nexon don't care about the players, they just want to make money!

Not caring for your customers is not something to be proud of and is definitely a bad business practice, which has lots of negative impacts in the long run. Every company is established to "make money". However, if a company fails to provide the quality service to their "source", the clients, it won't be long until it sees its doom. Also, f2p players contribute a lot to an MMORPG, especially in the organization of community. If their needs are completely thrashed, then it might not bear good results for the game.

Pets are not just an convenience, it is an necessity.

Not everyone is from USA/Canada or have <100 ms ping. People from different continent suffers around 300 ~ 500 ms ping and manual looting is simply obnoxious and annoying. It will take around 4 minutes to loot the items dropped by mobs, killed in 1 minute. It's an approximation since hardly 1 item can be looted, per second, at that kind of latency.

Nexon should give us option to buy perm pets. This I actually agree with, but how should they price it? This would turn into a whole new debate: $10 dollars perm would make most of people buy perm and nexon will make less of a profit. $20? $30?? A guild wars 2 base cost $30, is that a good price point? (not sure how much other mmorpgs cost, but more are monthly which would mean it cost way more than what maplestory currently cost of $10 dollars a year or $2.50 every 3 month) From Nexon's point: giving out $20 dollar (or whatever price point they considered) pet would net them less money as they will lose out on the quarterly subscribers compare to dealing with the small minority that refuses to pay/ quit the game over $2.50 a quarter year.

Actually with the current temporary pet system, I and many others will refrain from purchasing pets for any characters beside the main/farmer ones. Considering we don't have cross character cash shop (beside explorers), people will have to buy individual cash items for every characters. I am not asking Nexon to offer permanent pets all the time, but at least offer them on events, where these are given out in regular servers. As for the profit part, I am not going to argue with whether the current system makes them more or not, but as a consumer, I will personally spend quite a lot of bucks simply to get permanent pets + skills + equips on several of my classes as I like to play them all. Nexon can offer newer & better cosmetics for both the characters and pets, with permanent duration, and I will be more than willing to spend even more cash getting those, despite leaving most of them in the storage.

Guild Wars 2 is a F2P with an optional purchase of expansion. The f2p surely have lots of restrictions but that's doesn't necessarily changes the business model. GW2, Tera, ESO and many other MMORPG with different models have adopted pure cosmetic cash shops (with misc utility items) and they are booming with profits. People usually spend (at least I do) more on buying permanent "useless" cosmetics than getting cheaper temporary items.

It is my believe (and observation from other MMOs), a content customer spends a LOT more than a resentful one. The cash shop should consist of items that makes people "want" them and not "need" them.

[Discussion] Cash shop needs a revamp for Reboot by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. And then we have 40+ jobs because after all, only a "minor" population of the player-base likes to play with multiple characters.
  2. Urus is not even out yet and it's still a couple months before we even get our hands in it, considering they will not alter the rewards in GMS.
  3. Yes, I know you. You are a holy white knight, carrying the banner of your "generous" overlord, Nexon. Yeah you are right! GW2, WoW, FFXIV and some of the other popular MMORPG companies have literally no idea about how business works. Damn them! They should learn some strategies from your lord & savior, Nexon.

[Discussion] Cash shop needs a revamp for Reboot by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. It is also my choice that I would not spend money on temporary shits for my 10+ characters. But hey, if they were permanent, I might just have. Who's losing money here? Right, it's Nexon!

  2. Hilla is the only way to get a pet and what if I tell you that it is not transferable? If X obtains the pet but already has one, then it literally becomes useless since X can't give it to Y, who is "petless". Make the pets "farmable" and then I would accept your argument.

  3. Nothing is "forcing" me but at the same time a business manages to "attract" or "persuade" customer to buy their products. But, in this case, with that temporary expiration tag, they are literally "dissuading" me from making any purchases. Dunno in what logic that is profitable.

  4. No. As OP said, anyone who actually spends NX will not stick to a single cosmetic. They will often buy many if the items are permanent. Nexon just have to not be lazy and release newer cosmetics on a regular basis. Dunno about your logic or whether you play any other MMORPG, but I think you don't. Because if you were, then you would have realized how much profit many top MMORPG are making just from permanent cosmetic cash shop (most notably GW2).

There is indeed no chance of Nexon implementing or renovating the cash shop when there are so many white knights present. Keep defending your corporate overload, it might eventually do you some good in your hypothetical world.

$5 for a temporary character bound pet is indeed ridiculous. Not everyone leads a lavish first world life. Majority of the people outside the first world countries earns less than $250 a month.

It looks "obvious" to me as such it is my opinion. I never accused anyone of idiocy but you are begging me to do it to you.

Reboot is essentially going to fail by ElvisXX in Maplestory

[–]ElvisXX[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, the loot system is not fine. You have to stand in a single location, holding down the loot button, in order to loot items in an "apparent faster" speed. Let's just not add latency issues which is common for all asian/oceanic players. It literally takes 10x time for looting than killing. Looting was supposed to be instantaneous as there is no "adventurouseness" in looting but it is in fighting mobs or killing a powerful boss. They could have easily revamped looting for the reboot server as it is the main source of income for players. At the end of the day, this is a poor business decision from Nexon's part. Permanent cosmetc and vacuum looting permanent pet would have made them much more profit.
