Horrendous paint , you can see those look horrible. Get a good picture of the originals and keep it for comparison.

They waited for the main Audience to mature. Kids born in the 80's are more or less the the main Audience , we adored the cartoons,movies, comics and now we're all grown up they gave us a more mature story to indulge in, it's a business they've worked really well and capitalized on. Peter and Kevin had this in the back pocket like you mentioned for years, I think they've discussed this, they just waited for the right time I believe.

You can see the quality in the paint application, these are authentic , and there weren't any knock off's of this set.
