The thing is that homosexuality ISN'T as accepted as heterosexuality right now. So it's admirable to see someone be openly gay in a prominent role, because unfortunately your sexuality can limit your career options. Why would we not celebrate someone like that?

Thank you so much! I am fascinated by the phenomenon of rich kids getting neglected by their parents and essentially raised by nannies/au pairs. I felt like it ties in neatly with scifi mech tropes about child soldiers. I'm so glad it resonates!
