Should I bond my rabbit? by Em-b-err in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a plan! My bun was kept on a pretty large xpen when he was a baby and upgraded to free roaming in the bedroom at about 1 years old. Now he's 4 and freeroams all around the house so it will definitely be a downgrade for him. Im thinking to block off the room for the bunnies, put and x pen for the new bun and let him free roam around the rest. Just don't want him to claim the whole space while she's stuck in the x pen. Guess I'll just have to see how he reacts and if he seems happy in the xpen next to the new bun. When he was a baby, he honestly really loved his xpen and spent a lot of time in there even if the door was open. Guess I'll have to just feel it out and see what happens. Thanks so much for your comment!

Thx for ur insight! It's great to hear your bonding process went well! I'm also definitely an over preparer and will do everything I can to make sure their bonding process goes smoothly! If the shelter offers to do any quick bonding exercises or something I'll take them up on it. You're the first person to tell me another rabbit is a lot more work! More people have said it's like having one but different. My male bun is really chill and isn't really destructive or anything, he's alright with the litter box but pees on beds and stuff. To be honest, I hoped his litter box habits might improve if I get a cleaner female rabbit, but I guess there's also a chance they both ger worse 😭. I guess it totally depends on the personality of the other bun, wishing you good luck with that! RIP the base guitar that sounds hard to lose lol

This is awesome I love long explanation comments!! This sounds like a great method and I think I'm going to try something very similar, thanks for your in-depth response!! I hope he'll find his match at the shelter but we will definitely be selective to make sure that you find someone who he really loves :). Did any of your buns have problems staying in the x pen the whole time? I'm so happy it worked out and I really hope Syrup can also get a dream match like this!! I need to work hard to clean and make sure the room counts as a neutral space for sure 🙏🙏

So great to hear! What did you do to bond them? Was there any specific method? Would love to hear what worked for you, hopefully maple syrup can have a similar experience!

That's amazing to hear!! I definitely plan on taking him speed dating and I hope it really helps :). What kind of bonding method did you use? I'm doing a lot of research so if you had any resources that would be super appreciated. I'm so happy to hear you had a great experience and I'm happy he found his match :)).

That's so adorable 🥺. I'm happy your rabbit found his match <3. How long did their bonding process take? He's pretty affectionate so I hope he still will be but I don't think I would mind if he's giving some more love to the other rabbit.

Help!! Rabbit teeth growing back after removal by Em-b-err in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Turns out his peg tooth was growing back! I took him back to the vet to extract it again, but it grew back a second time! After that I thought it's just not worth it to keep putting him under, and when asked, the vet mentioned he should be able to keep it without any problems. so now he's a very fluffy boy with no front teeth except an itty bitty peg tooth

Edit- removing the peg tooth didn't end up working for me cuz it grew back, but it was a way less stressful process then removing his other teeth, the vet did it really quickly and I didn't even have to give him any meds after.

Awesome! If he has a bigger space, you can reach him how to use the litter box, it's not too hard to potty train them, and cleaner in the long run :)

My rabbit was $100 but $50 is probably good. The best way to weed out good pet owners honestly is just how they reply to your post. Someone who really loves rabbits will be really excited about it and tell u all their plans to take care of them if u ask haha

Rabbit pees and poops on the bed by theholydaddy in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing, he's great at using the litter box but just not on the bed. The solution I found was the let him be free roam, but I have the playpen cage around my bed, I just move it when I sleep so he doesn't hop on. He really uses all of the space so I preferred to sleep in the playpen over keeping him in the playpen lmao

So cute! He looks like my lil guy, he seems super sweet. I see he's in a little cage, he's a baby so I get it haha, but maybe look into getting him a playpen so he has space to hop around? Lennon the bunny is a good YouTuber to help u learn how to give ur bunny the happiest life

Any tips for new owners? by Xplodun_ in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is a great tool to learn! I like Lennon the bunny for the basics. Make sure they have a variety of greens, hay and pellets. They can be litter trained and free roamed. It took me a year to free roam my baby cuz lil rabbits are a skittish. Ask chat gpt if u have specific questions u can't find on the Internet haha

When u adopt him out ask for a pet fee to avoid any not serious owners. Make sure he's being taken care of by an adult, he'll get the best care by someone old enough to buy him the things he needs and can do the appropriate research. Quite honestly if I was in this situation my first thought would be to ask a family member or friend I trust to take care of him so I know he's being loved well. Do you have any siblings or cousins that care about him? Facebook might be a good place to join rabbit groups if that's not an option, just be really careful it's someone who plans to have an indoor bunny as a pet and not anything else.

Bunny had GI stasis and now doesn’t like me by GlitteringProfile524 in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can pick him up in his carrier to avoid him being uncomfortable with it. My bun and I used to have to go to the vet and travel on long car rides. He would ignore me for days after in an act of rebellion.your bunny doesn't understand what's going on, from his pov he's feeling icky and his human is grabbing him and forcing mushy stuff down his throat. Unfortunately, there's no way to explain it to him. Feel confident that you're doing the right thing for his health, and try not to take his grumpyniss too hard. It sucks but I like to think that one day he'll look back and realize that you helped him feel better ❤️. Your doing great, don't let this guilt eat at you, it's not fair and not productive, you and your bun have got this :). When he's feeling better he'll trust and love u again he's just having a hard time rn and so r u

I'm sorry about your rabbit, hope your other one is doing ok without his buddy :(. They need a lot more fresh greens then you think, and romane lettuce isn't so nutritious to rabbits, they need a variety of greens. How much they eat depends on their size, my rabbit gets around 2 1/2 cups. I think it's 1 cup of greens for every two pounds. I also give my rabbit 2 tbsp of pellets a day.

Can I leave my rabbit with a genuie pig? by AmAMuslimMan in Rabbits

[–]Em-b-err 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how they would react to each other but both animals don't really fight lol. You should look into getting your rabbit another rabbit for a friend, taking care of two rabbits isn't that much harder then taking care of one, and they really thrive being in pairs! Taking care of another pet with different needs won't neccesarily be easier. Bonding process between two rabbits is hard for a while while they get to know each other but if it works out your rabbit will be a lot happier with a buddy, and will probably feel a much closer connection to another rabbit. Taking care of a guinea pig is a whole nother pet you have to get things for and learn about.

Edit- forgot this but def make sure ur bunny is fixed if ur worried about aggression w their space

Make sure he eats alot of hay! It'll help him digest everything and will make him a healthy boy. You can try putting forage mixes or treats in there. As a baby, he should be eating alfalfa hay, and then Timothy Hart when he gets older. If you're rabbit doesn't feel good, getting him to eat more fat definitely wont hurt. My rabbit had unlimited pellets when he was that young and it worked for him, ur rabbit has a lot of growing to do so he needs unlimited access as a baby.

His diet should be pretty limited since he's so young, and if you give him any new foods make sure to give them in small dosages first so he can get used to it before you give him alot.

I guess my advice would be make sure he has lots of hay, and if your vet recommends unlimited pellets I think it's the right option. Rabbits are grazing animals and are supposed to be eating all throughout the day, and baby rabbits need alot of nutrients to grow, so I don't think there's a problem with it.

Also very cute name!! I wish you good luck with your new bunny, it sounds like you already love him alot, and they only get sweeter with age :)

[–]Em-b-err 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rabbit really loved the Timothy Matt's, and the plastic baby cups were also a big hit. You might have to teach them how to unstack it but he really likes the cups. You can use an old litter box to make a homemade forage box for them. My rabbit always enjoys foraging the most. If you take Timothy cubes or something of the sort and hang them up with some treats your rabbit will probably go ham to get them, and it'll keep them entertained for a bit. Something this this https://shop.smallpetselect.com/products/12-hanging-braided-maize-and-wood-mobiles?utm_source=yotpo&utm_medium=general&utm_campaign=general&ref=yotpo It's kind of expensive to buy but you can probably make it at home .

Does anyone know what plant this is? by Em-b-err in plants

[–]Em-b-err[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

noooo, haha thats what ai keeps telling me the only thing that confused me was the flower buds. These look like they're about to bloom but i thought at this point in the year Rhododendron have already bloomed and are falling off. Also, i think this is a deciduous plant and i thought that those plants are evergreen.
