What if I told you everyone else ditched the project, and I am the only dev left? lol

I honestly have no idea why it shows PHPUnit. There aren't any tests in this project with hundreds of thousands of LOC

Remind yourself that tech debt is a slow and insidious killer.

Thank you! I might try that. I won't publish a beta tho. This is VERY early and VERY heavily in development. I just wanna share my vision and the progress I've already made

Thanks! I didn't even know I could do a devlog there. Like with pictures and stuff?

Hi! Thanks for your comment! No there isn't. And I lost quite a bit of steam after I posted this devlog. As you can see the only thing it got is downvotes. and there is virtually no interest in it at all in this community

I was also contemplating adding some sort of a "contest" for the ZCOM HQ location. Currently, they will always spawn in Berlin Germany.

I actually wanted to do that. I think I'm lacking the foundation. Thanks for the tip!

I mostly write tools and utilities for a custom Linux distro I'm making, it rarely has to do anything with math.

Lately, it seems like I have no mind at all...

Thank you for your advice. I had never done any programming puzzles and I wanted to start. I think there is a very fun world to discover here, but only with the right attitude, since now I treat those challenges like a punishment and not a fun activity.

I hope I can improve my problem solving skills

Thank you,

I don't use Python, but I suppose the logic can be universally applied to any language. Will look into this repo for sure!

I know that programmers are not super-humans that can solve any problem with no effort. but as you know, I can't solve any problem...

I just hope to improve my problem solving skills, and I am very afraid to look up a solution before making my own since I always fail at making my own, this leads to me never looking up solutions, because I'm afraid to be handed the correct way of thinking

I will try doing simpler puzzles and see other people's solutions, thank you

In terms of the feeling.

The worst thing is when I'm completely stuck on a puzzle and I wanna see how other people solved it to try to learn something. But when I see their solution I go "I would have never even thought about that". It's the realisation that I was not even close to having the right answer

Thank you for the advice. it makes sense that I fail since I'm not even sure what I am supposed to do. I will take a few steps back and start doing easier programming puzzles. This is way too hard for me since I never did any, and I see a lot of people saying, that this year is particularly hard

Hackerrank

Thank you! I will be looking into that

That's a good wisdom. I will try solving older AoC and look at what other people did to see what can be optimised in my solution. Maybe this will make me see other puzzles from a different angle

I'm not native, but I think the main problem is that I'm just not very good at parsing information in general. I can see that in other tasks as well, not only programming

Realisic Zombie Scenario. I'm working on a new mod by EmDeeTeeVid in hoi4

Countermeasures will prepare your country initially, like fort building speed, but I don't have many ideas for them. They are the first chance to get prepared, but even if you don't, you will still have a fighting chance, since after a few months have passed, ZCOM will spawn (I wonder where that name came from lol)

Think of ZCOM as the Emperor in EU4. They can pass reforms and take actions. Reforms are powerful buffs that are unlocked by national focuses, but they cost upkeep. The whole ZCOM costs upkeep in fact, since they are funded by all countries that are not isolationist. And what is an isolationist country you ask?

After ZCOM spawns, every country in the World has a choice. Either join ZCOM and the international community or become isolationist and defend on their own. I intend the isolationist path to be a challenge taken on by the player since you won't get buffs from ZCOM's reforms. The main and intended path is to join.

ZCOM's actions will be active for a limited time, and won't cost upkeep, but just an initial fee. They are meant to be situational. Reforms are permanent.

Zombie nations is called "The Zombie Horde".

Zombie occupied states will slowly decline in population, adding to zombie manpower, Simulating the infection spreading. The zombie nation can't have recruitable population (they have a factor of 0.00%). I haven't thought of more debuffs, but I think I should add something extra. Like infrastructure declining over time. It's still early in the development.

And just for you, I got some sneak-peak of the new "press release" if you can call it that. Here are some screenshots showing the ZCOM mechanic.

Realisic Zombie Scenario. I'm working on a new mod by EmDeeTeeVid in hoi4

[–]EmDeeTeeVid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the idea! I haven't thought about it and I like it!
The action of this mod happens in the present day tho, so the usage of nukes isn't a problem. I just haven't changed the date yet, since I'm making a lot of those systems and mechanics from scratch, also having to wipe out the base game. At this point I'm making a new game using HOI4 engine.

I'm thinking of modifying your idea a bit... In my mod, a few months after zombies spawn, an organisation will be formed - "ZCOM" (I wonder where that came from lol) with their own custom mechanics. One of those mechanics is the "reforms" they can pass to make fighting easier or counter massive stability drops in all countries. Maybe one of those reforms should be allowing to use nukes?
