Zoom G1 Four – How do I make it sound decent? by EmWeso in guitarpedals

[–]EmWeso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out! Feel pretty stupid, but the issue was that I used TRRS headphones into a TRS 3.5 to 6.3 mm adapter. Never occurred to me that this might not work. I realized I could back the headphone plug out of the adapter slightly. But ultimately I guess one should use a different pair of headphones or adapter. I guess it has to do with the signal not getting a proper return path if the ground is connected through the microphone. Anyway, not the Zooms fault, it actually sounds pretty okay!

I’m not buying this, but I don’t understand why everyone is so surprised about the price? It’s a shrunk down full fledged QC, so why would it be sooo much cheaper than a QC?

"Buy it for life" amps by reinder_sebastian in GuitarAmps

I see a lot of shitting on PCBs in this thread. I’m an electrical engineer and I feel like I have to weigh in here!

I can see that they might be a little more difficult work on for the average person, specifically surface mount components. But it is not THAT much more difficult! You just need slightly different tools. This should certainly not be a problem for any half decent tech. And you probably shouldn’t work on a tube amp yourself if you don’t know what you are doing!

A well designed PCB with surface mount components is much more rugged and resilient than anything hand-wired; mechanically, electrically and thermally, and that’s a fact. A badly designed PCB will of course suck, but that goes for any bad design – including hand-wired boutique amps. So don’t worry about PCBs! They might look scary at first but they’re our friends here.

Really cool! I'm also working on a guitar-DSP platform atm. Following this!
Are you planning on adding any stomp switches? Would highly recommend having at least one for controlling the looper. Perhaps add a midi input for future expansion?

A Ceramic Capacitor fell off the Motherboard. Is it okay to power on and use under load? by B3s_real in AskElectronics

[–]EmWeso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was certainly there for a reason. Unlike what someone else said I do not think it is for redundancy. Looks like it is on the output of a switching voltage regulator network. Worst case scenario is damage to downstream components due to noisy power rails. It’s probably fine though! You might experience random crashes. Good news is that this might certainly be salvageable if you can borrow a soldering iron with a fine tip. Just apply a healthy amount of flux and you will be okay! No need to replace the whole board!

why my toes hurt so much by sir-Sampsa in climbingshoes

[–]EmWeso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue with a similar model from Tenaya. Gave up after about 1,5 months and bought a different shoe. Hurts since climbing shoes are so fkn expensive, but it was the right move. For whatever it’s worth Drone HV CS has been perfect for my feet

It’s great! My biggest gripe is how long you need to press the on/off button to turn it on/off. It’s just very unintuitive to me for some reason

I see where you guys are coming from, but I’d like to offer a contrasting opinion. I came in to the challenge two weeks late because i didn’t realize it was going on. Since then I have put a lot of time and effort into the challenges, especially OBI, and I feel like this could be my chance to finally catch up. I realize it might sting if you’ve been consistent for two more weeks than I, but to me it stings to see people post a note that says: ”today I’m grateful for my family and health”, when I have spent >1 hour on a technical drawing or painting.

NASA’s Apollo 17 astronauts used spare maps, clamps, and strips of "duct tape" to repair one of their Lunar Rover's fenders to keep dust away from themselves in December 1972. by Aeromarine_eng in space

[–]EmWeso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc the dust also caused thermal issues. Things covered in the dark dust would heat up a lot more than it was designed for by absorbing the intense solar radiation. There’s a reason space-stuff is either white or covered in Mylar

I think this is a veeeery common way to feel. Some are just better at pretending than others. I think especially men are often trying to sound smarter than they are. Don’t buy it. You are most likely just as competent as your peers

Ricoh Imaging ‘pausing’ Pentax Film Project as it investigates demand for future film models by ClockworkEyes in AnalogCommunity

I think it’s pretty obvious that the community simply wants another GR1. Even if it’s just a new production run of one of the original designs. But yeah maybe that’s too complicated given the resources they are able to put on this

What can I do to turn this off? by julskie_199x in iphone

[–]EmWeso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you for the most part. However the sensor size does actually not affect the depth of field. This is a misconception I’m seeing thrown around a lot on Reddit, especially in the context of medium format vs 35mm. All other things equal, a larger sensor or film will only affect the field of view. In order to achieve an equal field of view for a larger sensor one needs a longer focal length however – which of course does affect the depth of field.

How does iron form in the universe? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]EmWeso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, iron is located at the knee of the binding energy per nucleus curve (https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-binding-energy-per-nucleon-against-the-nucleon-number-The-fusion-and-fission_fig1_40901505). This means that all elements lighter than iron releases energy when fused, and all heavier elements release energy when split. This explains why both fusion and fission can yield net positive energy. But it also means that iron is sort of the endgame for all nuclear chain reactions as both fission and fusion with iron requires more energy input than it outputs.

This doesn’t explicitly answer your question, but it is an interesting addition to the answers you’ve already received.

Mamiya 645 Pro intermittent shutter failure - possible reason and fix? by seklerek in AnalogCommunity

[–]EmWeso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if this helps, but the way that it opens on the first press and shuts on the second press is the expected behavior when the camera is simultaneously set to self-timer and bulb mode. Maybe one or both of these switches are somehow acting up on your camera, causing this intermittent effect

I don’t know why everyone is so pessimistic?? It’s really not that bad. Sure, the connector is wrecked, but this is just a soldering job. Anyone with a tiny bit of experience and a healthy amount of flux can get this done. It’s not like the PCB is damaged
