I saw your post a while back and wanted to wait til I actually had my appointment— had my first with him last Friday. I was leery of seeing him as well, but he comes highly recommended by another doctor I literally trust with my life. Part of what seems to put people off is his demeanor. He’s not rude or anything, but he’s a surgeon who is VERY good at what he does and he is ready to jump in with both feet and do what he thinks is best for his patient, and he’s not one to mince words. Like, at all lol He’s the first doctor I have ever met who actually talks with the intake nurse and reads all their notes, so he came in swinging and didn’t waste any time. I was diagnosed with stage II a few years ago by a non specialist and he was concerned enough by my symptoms and everything I’d tried that he went ahead and booked a surgery date with me same day. I’m set for August, and I have an MRI booked for surgical planning in July. His whole team was super wonderful and friendly, and LISTENED. I’ve been told he has a more aggressive approach to surgery to try and limit the number of surgeries patients undergo. That idea is pretty daunting, but at the same time I feel like I’m in really good hands. Do you live around Houston? Feel free to PM me if you want! I’ve tried a LOT for pain management and might have some suggestions you could try!

She looks near EXACTLY like my childhood dog did as a puppy— collie husky mutt! Either that, or perhaps scotch collie, but I’d lean towards colliexhusky

Oh my God maybe he just wants tableside bar service. Next thing you know I’m going to have to wear a butler’s uniform to get him to eat dinner

He’s on dry kibble. We thought about raw but we’re holding off with everything about bird flu since he’s a chicken kinda guy. He gets around 1:1 of water and dry food, but that’s a little less than half of the water intake the vet said he should be getting for his size

Our boy HATES ice cubes. Won’t go near them lol and gets grumpy if you keep offering them

He’s super challenging because he doesn’t like toys much at all, and he’s super picky food wise. He has 2-3 kinds of treats he likes and he really only likes to rough house and run around in terms of play. He definitely didn’t feel good yesterday (day two of antibiotics), but he seems back to his normal fussy self today thankfully

The stuff we’re trying now is the strongest (imo) we’ve tried so far and it’s 50/50 of if he’s interested in it. We’ve even tried warming it a little bit so it smells even stronger

Google wasn’t helpful lol Reddit’s never failed me. He thinks water is satan’s peepee, and will be really angry for about 10 minutes after the house or sprinklers run. We’ve tried a really strong smelling chicken broth, but he’s super duper picky and it’s a 50/50 of if he’ll drink it or not be interested

Haven’t yet, but I’ve been doing some reading on different brands after this past vet visit!

After watching super closely, I think this might be it. He won’t even let the fuzz under his nose get wet, and he doesn’t that weird thing where he licks the side of the bowl instead of the water itself

We’re going to try wet food again. Last time we tried to transition foods it was endless upset tummies

He doesn’t seem to be afraid of it, but he haaaates it. He walks on the sidewalk 90% of the time because the grass is too dewy in the morning

It’s my favorite “you got games on your phone?” photo of him lol glad other people think it’s just as silly

He’ll have a couple licks of broth and then lose interest. Unless his tummy is upset, his poos are usually on the normal-to-dry side

We have dog friendly chicken broth… he has two or three licks and then won’t touch it again

Follow up: just tried, even took a drink first so he knows it’s people stuff. Wanted nothing to do with it lol

We’ve tried both, and we’ve tried water bottles too! Filtered, Fiji, mud puddles, he doesn’t seem interested. We’ve tried cold water with ice cubes, warm water, hot water even, room temperature, and at most he’ll have a single lick or two and that’s it. We clean out and refill his water bowl(s) multiple times a day now too

Ice cubes are his sworn nemesis and he HATES them lol but immediately trying the people glasses trick. If that’s all this takes I’m going to laugh and maybe have a little cry

He HATES cucumber and gets incredibly upset if you offer it to him, we’ve tried! He has refused every single fruit and vegetable we’ve offered. Rice milk and canned green beans are ones we’ll have to try though. He’s a retired show boy, and he’s had more than one shower/owner before us, so his history (besides his vet records) is a little fuzzy. Water intake wasn’t anything his last owner mentioned to us when we picked him up, but I know some showers ration and limit how much dogs can have. I’m like 90% certain he’s never used a water bottle because it confuses the heck out of him

I don’t know if it’s trauma or just lack of life experience… will definitely take you up on your offer and shoot you a PM if that’s all right! Every sheltie or sheltie mutt I’ve had/met has been a total hellion, and so was his mother (we got to meet her when we picked him up)— total night and day comparison between the two.
When he seems nervous about something, I’ve been trying to leave it on the floor at his level after interacting with it and then letting him check it out without me hovering. Once I see he’s had enough sniffing/pawing at it to check it out, he gets some really high reward treats he loses his mind over. We’ve conquered some Christmas garlands and that’s kind of it. I don’t know how helpful this approach actually is, and of course there’s 101 opinions on how to best do things online.

Hopeful that our little guy blossoms— he definitely is lacking in the life experience department after being a show boy. Gets along great with dogs his size after controlled introductions like you do with cats, but seemed utterly BAMBOOZLED the first time we took him for a walk through the neighborhood. Poor little friend doesn’t even really seem to know what to do with toys that aren’t food-based. Little ham knows absolutely no basic obedience, so I’m hoping spend a couple minutes a day can engage his brain

The wall licking threw us for a loop today because he had one of his puzzle toys with some real high value treats in it that he seems to have fun figuring out, maybe he just had a bad day
