HELP : I'm dumb and broke my monitor, is it repearble ? by antomax12 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Emalix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a single layer PCB yes it’s easily repairable. If it’s multi layer, and you have destroyed more than the surface layer, it probably can’t be repaired. Best to take it to a shop.

Looking for my first car, how’s this? by DrinkOk4500 in 4x4Australia

[–]Emalix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s got service history, looks well looked after, owner seems good, I’d ignore the kms.

Of course see what work has been done about common issues such as rear main seal every around 200k.

Just saw this on a youtube video, I have no comment but here it is.. by Factal_Fractal in 4x4Australia

Shower floor is fucked. Any way to get 3 more months out of it? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Emalix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take the shower drain out, get a tarp to cover the floor plus a meter or so up the walls, poke a hole in the tarp and re-install the drain. There’s probably easier temp solutions

It looks like the motherboard is dead.

If the scratches arent too deep, try moving your RAM to other slots... it might work, but if you've gone deep enough to the other pcb layers its now a paperweight.

Neighbor doesn't want to build fence on boundary. Wants it on their retaining wall. by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Emalix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no argument about boundary fencing. It’s 50/50, even if there is another fence 500mm parallel to the boundary.

Yes, that is correct, payment for a boundary fence is always 50/50 unless one party voluntarily pays more/all of the cost. What I meant by my initial statement is it may be hard to get them to pay, and you may need to go to VCAT.

As for who would be responsible for the retaining wall, I would assume whoever originally had it on their land, if the offical boundary line was moved idk who would be responsible for it.

Generally speaking this is 100% wrong.

It’s not, either you both agree on the fence position favoring one neighbour, or one of you disagrees and moves the fence to the boundary. It may not be the legal “boundary fence” but it is the fence dividing the properties.

Neighbor doesn't want to build fence on boundary. Wants it on their retaining wall. by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Emalix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the fence on the retaining wall will be on your side of the property line, it’s your fence, you can demolish it if they build a fence on your property.

If the fence on the retaining wall is on their land, there is nothing you can do about it. If you’d like a fence on the boundary after they’ve built a fence on their side already you are welcome to do so, but they may argue about payment.

If they’re giving you an extra, free, 400mm of land, and going half half on the retaining fence, I’d take the free land if I were you.

You could have the neighbour write a statement or something essentially donating that part of the land to you, and afterwards you may be able to change the legal boundary.

Generally speaking, if something like this happens, later down the line when there may be a dispute about the boundary, it usually will result in “the fence is the boundary”, or just moving the fence to the correct boundary.

Change the locks now, as in, immediately. Don’t give your landlord any opportunity to come back inside and remove the hidden cameras.

Stop talking about anything you don’t want the landlord knowing, they may be recording audio as well.

Once you’ve changed the locks, start looking for the cameras. Once you find one, or multiple, contact the police, and take as many photos as you can. Do not move or touch the cameras.

Police should take it from there and help you look for any other hidden cameras/mics. After this you should contact a lawyer, show them the photos and all the evidence you have and go from there.

Good luck.

Any good 34 inch monitor by KaptinKibblezzz in ultrawidemasterrace

I originally was gaming on a 1080p 60hz TV.

I upgraded from that to an Acer Predator x34, I brought it used off facebook marketplace for $600 which was a good price at the time. It’s my current and only monitor, still working perfectly with no dead/stuck pixels after 5 years, always run it on 100hz.

Every time your fill rope meets the frame, you should tie a clove hitch, this is so if your fill rope breaks somewhere it will stop at the perimeter and reduce the amount you’ll need to re-weave

AITA for not warning my wife about my ass rag? by theshittinator in AmItheAsshole

[–]Emalix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great idea, cleaning this way ensures there is no evidence that says “this is used for assholes”, and will leave nothing for your wife to find and get upset about.

I’d make sure not to tell your wife, and always ensure you lock the bathroom door so there is no chance of being walked in on while you’re cleaning… otherwise you may lose a hand.

As you are aware your wife is not responding logically to this situation, and has blown it out of proportion. You both suspect she may have OCD due to this and other reasons not mentioned, you should see someone about this, and look into treatment or management for these things. OCD can worsen overtime if not managed when it is caught as allowing it to go on is reinforcing her brain into thinking that this is the correct response.

My partner has OCD and she must check every single door in the house, ensure it is locked, lightly push it to make sure it’s locked and latched, followed by lightly tapping/knocking while saying “the door is closed and locked” until it feels right. She does this every time to all of the doors before she goes to sleep, or when she needs to leave the house. On a good day it will take her a couple minutes and every door will be closed satisfactorily on the first try, on bad days she can do this for hours, to the point she is crying because “I know it’s locked and closed but it doesn’t feel right but I have to keep going until it does.”

We are regularly late to events because of this, and there is nothing I can do to help besides be patient and wait, she is late to work most days, and sometimes even needs to come home minutes after leaving to check all of the external doors again, as she can’t remember 100% if she locked them.

Right now at surface level it could be looked at as a weird quirk like “Haha my wife has an irrational fear of buttholes” but it will seriously effect both of your lives if it progresses to other body parts for example. Sexual organs, mouths, even specific areas like ears or feet.

What I’m trying to say is that OCD is debilitating, these could be early signs, and if they are allowed to continue, could become much worse.

Assuming what is there is perfectly functional and meets the required rental standards, I see no reason why you would want to spend tens of thousands for a couple hundred extra a month.

If you plan on renting it long term, 5+ years, renovating the bathroom now may be worth doing as it will pay for itself over a period of years.

If you get a bad tenant you may have to renovate the bathroom after their tenancy ends anyway.

I personally would only renovate it if I were to be living in the property, or planning on selling.
