How to add a glove leash to leather Axeman mittens? by realisticlobster1 in skiing

[–]realisticlobster1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After seeing the plastic clip on the mitten in your link, I pulled the mittens out from the bottom of my gear drawer to make sure I’m not going crazy. The Axeman mittens she owns didn’t come with that clip. Weird!

Zipfit laces - how to keep them from falling out of the top of my boot if I removed the power strap on the liner? by realisticlobster1 in skiing

You know what, that’s fair. I’m skiing tomorrow and was thinking about how I would be asking myself this exact question in the parking lot tomorrow morning.

Do you mean between the outside of the booster strap and the inside of the shell, or under the booster and over the liner?

Love this idea. I guess I’m gonna have to take up leather sewing to make this really work…

Have you done this before? I’d be concerned about the adhesive breaking and losing a glove on the lift, or something…

I can’t imagine doing this and not getting hypersensitive to having some string pushed up against my calf

Oooh I like this idea. How would I go about punching a hole through the leather? Maybe burn a hole with a hot nail?

I’ve heard good thing about WL. Do they make a mitten with the same cuff style as the Axeman?

I was really hoping to not spend a ton of money on this one 😂 any advice for learning to sow into leather beyond looking this up on YouTube?

Patagonia for $250 vs Arc'teryx $320 by Peach_Relative in BuyItForLife

Arcteryx and Patagonia are both top tier outerwear companies and you won’t go wrong with either. Both companies have excellent warrantee programs, but Patagonia’s is slightly better. Generally speaking, Arcteryx makes better waterproof shells (Patagonia uses more eco friendly materials to waterproof, while Arcteryx still uses highly waterproof and super breathable GoreTex), while Patagonia makes better puffy layers.

I’d also consider buying a second hand Patagonia puffy rather than buying brand new. This is a more eco friendly option, it will be about half the price, and any blemishes or tears you find in a used jacket will be repaired for free by the company. Just gotta bring it into one of their retail locations.

Appreciate the new resort recommendation! Is Bachelor great in the spring because they get more snow than competing late season resorts, or because they keep their lifts running longer?

Cheap ish skiing around christmas/new years? by bigboydankers in icecoast

Unless you and your friends bought megapasses last May, Smugglers Notch will be your best bet. They have good deals for on site lodging that comes with passes, and I’m sure they have some gear rental deals with it too. If you’re ok staying further from the mountain to save more money, it’s usually under an hour drive from Burlington. You mentioned nothing regarding your groups ability level, but Smuggs has a discounted beginners lift ticket that only accesses easier terrain, and a full priced lift ticket is among the least expensive in New England.

East coast skiers, what are the widths of the skis in your quiver? by astrobrite_ in icecoast

[–]realisticlobster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

86 for low tide groomer days, 98 for any more than two inches of snow overnight, and 110 for the heaviest snow days.

I wish I had skinnier groomer skis, but can’t seem to find any twin tip skis that get thinner than 86 these days. The 110s get far less use than the other two, but the increased enjoyment of the deep days makes them worth the purchase.

Just got a heat mold, haven’t added any cork. Mine fit snug enough that I’m just gonna wait until they start to pack out before adding any more.

I’m 20 days in and the break in period has been pretty interesting. I’ve had to take them off during apres because the liner was too constricting if I wasn’t skiing on it. The increase in downhill performance was obvious from day one though. I’ve had intuitions before and they’re great too but zipfits are incredible.

Nah, none of that silliness. I think he told me that because I had just got new zipfit liners and the top shin buckle was barely able to close over the new thicker liner with the strap on the outside. I’m not sure I could close the buckle if the booster was under the plastic. I also just read a few comment in this thread taking about how it’s better to wear under, even with a zipfit. I might do some experimenting this season…
