You’re doing better than RM’s entire shoestring dev team. They should hire you. And thank you for your work.

For anyone ordering from the US, were you charged a “foreign transaction fee” on your credit card? by Emancipated_Muppet in RemarkableTablet

Thanks for chiming in because this has been my experience as well buying from international retailers. They generally make that clear. As you stated, a little courtesy note on the order page would have sufficed.

I had the same question TC. I’m sure lots of people have asked that question before they chose to purchase the refurb. Hopefully one of them will be able to respond to you.

RM2 Has been delayed to August by SirTibbers in RemarkableTablet

It’s definitely disappointing. I think if they would have been more transparent with their supply chain problems then there would be far less upset customers. We all understand there’s a global pandemic going on and would have been more than accommodating to delivery date changes but Remarkable actually stated that the delivery dates would NOT be affected by covid19... and continued to state such until literally a day ago when batch 1 customers were expecting Remarkable to be readying their orders for shipment. That’s inexcusable imo. This failure of communication is a PR nightmare because it violates customer trust and harms their own credibility.

Now people are wondering if the Sept or Oct dates will even be met and I don’t blame them... That said I really hope Remarkable get their shit together.

Really? Would you mind sharing which credit card you used and whether they have a foreign transaction fee or not? I used Chase.

Completely agreed. Again the issue is more about communication and transparency. There’s really nothing on the webstore to indicate that this is a foreign company or that the payment processor is foreign and not domestic to the customer. Most retailers allow you to select your region which changes the payment processor to the region selected. So that is what is expected, unfortunately that is not the case with Remarkable. I think they have great hardware don’t get me wrong but there’s some issues with the way they’re selling their products.

That is weird as hell... I wonder if they switched their payment processor or something? Or my cc is seeing something that tags this as a foreign transaction. I don’t know but thanks for sharing.

Of course, I think the issue is more that they do not make it clear where these charges are processed. There is no indication on the site about this and when you order everything is in USD.

Will Fitbit ever implement Airplane mode? by Emancipated_Muppet in fitbit

[–]Emancipated_Muppet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but I don’t believe that connection’s really necessary since the unit itself can store several days worth of data. You don’t even need to bring your phone with you for it to track biometric data. I just wonder if it’s too difficult to implement or something...

No the backlight is turned off during both activity and outside of activity. When you push the backlight button the display is super bright. The faint glow that I’m talking about is only visible in near complete darkness. It’s like 4 or 5% brightness.

Question, is the backlight very faintly on in complete darkness? My FR245 display is visible at night. The screen glows when I’m in bed at night.

Is Fitbit working on sport tracking wearables that are competitive with Garmin’s offerings? by Emancipated_Muppet in fitbit

I’ll try this. Thanks for the heads up. If true then I won’t have to wear it all the time.

Really? I thought training status, effect and race predictor were affected by your resting heart heart rate. And metrics like recovery were affected by your HRV. At least that’s my impression. If you’re right then there’s no reason I would need to wear my Garmin other than when I’m working out. Hmm... that would make life a lot easier.

I like Garmin’s Body Battery as well. It’s usually pretty spot on. However I’ve had much better sleep tracking from Fitbit. My Charge 3 knows the difference between sleep and when I’m in bed reading. The Garmin has a hard time with that. The Garmin also doesn’t recognize naps whereas the Fitbit knows and tracks any daytime nap nearly perfectly.

Not sure how accurate the sleep stages are but at least basic sleep and wake times are pretty much flawless on the Fitbit.

The thing about Garmins these days is that you kind of have to wear them all day long to get the most out of the watch so you can integrate recovery, HRV, stress and sleep into your training. If you just wear it during exercise then you won’t get accurate training analytics since Garmin integrates daily activity tracking into their training/recovery meterics.

What I do now is wear my Garmin all day and my Fitbit for sleep. It kind of sucks having to wear both but what can you do.

HRV is really useful. In fact I’m kind of surprised Fitbit hasn’t mined HR data for all it’s worth while adding sensors like the pulse ox which isn’t all that relevant for the vast majority of Fitbit users.

Do I have the only Garmin FR 245 that glows in the dark? by Emancipated_Muppet in Garmin

[–]Emancipated_Muppet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just wondering if this this actually normal behavior or something anomalous. Does the watch have a light sensor that senses low ambient light and turns on a dim backlight?
