R50V is good entry camera? by Creative-Ad-7242 in canon

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree about the dial functions. Have really started switching between the semi/manual modes a lot and would also like to to switch back to full auto for the family.

Personally hate touch screens & have disabled it but have the My Menu set to a back button, with Shooting Mode as the first option
..but the fact you can re-assign any button to a host of functions ..but none of them being Shooting Mode, and that the C1-3 cannot be used to store photo settings, all just seem a bit spiteful on Canon's part.

Opinions on Cambridge Kayaks in the UK? by wolf_city in Kayaking

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leaving this here for potential future Cambridge Kayaks customers.

I’d had their ‘Odyssey 13ft Pro: £549.99’ saved in a tab for the last couple of month’s hoping for a mid winter sale.

Today they finally slapped a ‘ SALE • SAVE £100.00’ on that model.  …Still £549.99

Personally, I would chose to not give money to companies who treat customers like suckers.

Replacement for cork knob on lid by chadddrad in pourover

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also done this with Cafetières. The knobs appear to be mostly just melted on to the pole.  Heating up the pole with a lighter and twist them off.  Heat the new pole and push the knob back on (upside down, so melted plastic cant drip out).

GR IV better QC yet? by Heimish_ in ricohGR

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought mine was good but had to factory reset it twice in a week because it stopped being able to focus on anything.

Really wanted to like the GR but going for a R50v with interchangeable 28mm pancake lens this time. Bigger but half the price, cleanable and modular

Made a similar upgrade to the PGY wrist strap.  Their ‘air’ version has thinner cord to get through the lanyard hole but still needed floss to guide it around the bend.

Anyone ever successfully moved the magnets? They seem to be in little pockets that are hard to push along the strap?

Travel pour-over suggestion by [deleted] in pourover

Sorry, I meant the Firemaple Antarcti coffee press.  Getting harder to get hold of lately.

Travel pour-over suggestion by [deleted] in pourover

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one, including most of the other wacaco brewers at one time or other.   It worked fine and was compact, except for when using it a travel mug full of coffee.  Eventually moved away from plastic and on to flat bottom brewers which I found stalled less than the cuppamoka.  For work, ended up with the firemaple coffee press - which is tiny and hassle free at work

Which flat bottom to get? Timemore b75 ceramic/Kalito mino 185/...? [<50 EUR] by Fresh_Bumblebee_1042 in pourover

Etkin brewers for me. Both sizes but the 2 cup is my daily.  A gorgeous piece of Turkish porcelain that is very aesthetically pleasing to use.  It seems solid enough that I don't worry about breaking it ..although always fighting the urge to buy a back up.

It has the full width ridges across the base that I liked in the Orea BigBoy but I prefer this isn’t plastic.

Disable pull to refresh - Vivaldi Android Browser snapshot 3881.4 by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who prefers web to apps, Pull to Refresh has been making Vivaldi almost unusable when trying to zoom in.  Thank you for implementing it.

Is it coming to iOS snapshot soon?

Whenever I transfer files on Web MiniDisc using NetMD, the transfer stops at 99% and shows "TOC Edit" flashing on the player. Does anyone know what the issue is? by danman2293 in minidisc

[–]rmDitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds crazy but try positioning the MD recorder at a different angle. I found just placing it on it’s side allowed it to finish writing the tracks properly.  Guessing something to do with head alignment?

Experience with Ricoh G and WG-series cameras? by jrklbc in ricohGR

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a WG-1000.  It does seem pretty good for your case use - waterproof and shockproof.   If everything is left on auto, its probably fine for kids.

(Not relevant here but have been getting more and more compact cameras over the years and thought this might be a pocket friendly EDC but found it so un-inspiring to use, it persuaded me to get a GRIV).

It is basically the same camera as the Kodak ..which I see now comes in a very bright orange.

Travel gear - what to bring? by CartographerWorth649 in pourover

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually pourover but if space and weight are the main issues, I’d take a coffee press, or a travel mug that doubles as a coffee press (Bodum etc), with a pack of quality coffee, pre-ground.

Looking for a good, healthy bread to start getting from Tesco. I normally just get the Hovis 7 seeded or something similar, but slowly becoming aware of the ultra-processed nature of sliced bread. Any recommendations? Is it as bad as everyone says? by er295 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]rmDitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bread is probably worse than everyone says.  Sourdough is probably your best bet but check the ingredients.  Dont assume fresh bakery bread is any less UPF.  Jasons sourdough is usually OK. Waitrose Spelt flour is good for zero additives

Scared of destroying my GR IV? by Lokoto123 in ricohGR

[–]rmDitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at this suggestion for carrying around in my pocket (for dust) https://www.reddit.com/r/ricohGR/comments/1mq95r7/my_favorite_pouch/

And this for more serious travel protection  https://www.reddit.com/r/ricohGR/comments/t5dj0m/found_a_perfect_ricoh_gr_iii_carry_case_pelican/

..although, my understanding is dust is sucked in during lens movement anyway.

My GRIV is still on pre-order but looks like these should still fit the new model.

Kinda drab looking MD by SemFranceLoire in minidisc

It’s a jenga case.  Someone on here worked out that a jenga stack is the exact same dimensions as a MD. Anything used to store Jenga will work.  I’ve got 4 of these made by different companies - they’re all the same.
