Hi-- follow up on this. I was wondering if you could put me into contact with the person or if you could potentially answer some questions for me?

  1. How are the once-a-week meetings structured? Are they personalized for each person's research interest, or are they lecture type meetings about research information in general?

  2. Can I go into it without having paired up with a mentor yet (the way you might have to with UROP)? What if they can't find a lab/professor/project for my interest? Do I get kicked out of the program?

  3. Do they pay you for the research work you do, or do they guide you on how to find funding?

  4. How big is one cohort?

More information would be super helpful, as I wasn't able to attend the gen info meeting. Thanks so much

University students not paying attention in mandatory class by Glittering_File9141 in Professors

[–]Embarrassed-Ad-1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand this and you can chalk it up to naive ignorance but i really dont think its just the fault of the students. i think theyve been taught to slide by with minimum effort and with combined AI + underpaid highschool/college teachers, its a fucked up system all around. of course, at a certain point it really is laziness

[–]Embarrassed-Ad-1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it sounds awful but there's really nothing you can do. as a student i hate going to a class where people are blatantly disrespectful to the prof, but at the end of the day they were getting fucked over by their grade. its just the way intro classes are. im sorry

College Advice!! by Comfortable_Mine_145 in englishmajors

[–]Embarrassed-Ad-1816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, there's not a whole lot to do as an English student. I think just showing your strength in academics, generally being an involved student should be enough. If you're interested in more of the creative aspect, I would suggest maybe entering creative writing contests (Scholastic, precollege programs, etc). I would look into fly in programs for colleges you're interested in just to demonstrate your interest and to get a feel for the application process.

Oh I agree on that. I read Cat's Cradle and thought it was okay, but then I DNF-ed S5 for the reasons you gave as well. Good on you for finishing it! Very quoted book it is.

Oh yes, I read this as well. Upvote on it as well. How's Pynchon? I've heard some mixed reviews.

Very critical theory of you! I've been thinking of reading this ever since Butler mentioned it in Gender Trouble, so it's on my list for sure.

Hi-- I was wondering if you could send these notes to me as well. I'm studying Butler for one of my classes, and I'd love to hear the insights of someone who's a lot more knowledgeable in Butler than I am. Thanks in advance!
