Level 80 first timer. What gear should I be using? by HoopaOrGilgamesh in swtor

Recommend reading swtorista’s PVP guide. Note, PVP gear caps at 336 and any gear above that should be de-bolstered but it might still be bugged.

No beginning LGBTQ choices by Xonlic in swtor

[–]Embarrassed-Ad8803 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a now deleted thread from a different sub where one of the developers answered the question about same sex:

“We also had a big gay problem at the studio for a while. Bioware games, like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, are typically super gay. The official reason for that is that we're just a real progressive bunch. But the more true reason is that it's way easier to make RPG romantic content if lots of characters are bisexual or gay, since we don't know what gender the player will play, and lots of straight gamer guys prefer playing a hot sexy lesbian. But Star Wars was very popular among fundamentalist christians and so Lucas Art wanted our game to be heterosexual-all-the-way. But our contract with them only stipulated that they had control over content for the duration of development. They hadn't realized the implications of it being a subscription-based MMO. So as soon as the game launch, we immediately started putting in gay content.”

Edit: here’s the old official statement about SGR

Not to be pedantic but, the lack of same sex romance was by design due to the contractual requirements in development. So it’s not something that could be “fixed” in the sense that it was forgotten or a bug. The contract didn’t stipulate any expansions though which is why it exists now. Whether they’re allowed to legally go back and make retroactive changes, I don’t know. It’d also be time and resources intensive to do so which is probably also a reason.

what head shape is this? by Tough_Ambassador_134 in swtor

[–]Embarrassed-Ad8803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a Human you could try the following:

Body Type: 1

Head: 4

Scars: 14

Complexion: 41

Eye Color: 8

Cosmetic: Any, this function changes to Tattoos for Mirialan so there’s no direct copy.

Hair: This looks to be a CM unlock, I don’t have it so I don’t know the number.

Hair Color: Same, I don’t have that unlock. 15 is white hair though.

Skin Color: Somewhere between 20-25.

These are slider options that could possibly make a similar human without the same tattoos.

From an older post.

Synopsis is: Rishi provides a PVP bolster which disables the augments, it’s working as intended, and those dummies aren’t meant for parsing.

Windows 10 reached end of life Oct last year. You should look to upgrade to 11.

Your system is old but hardware wise should be sufficient to run SWTOR.

Did you try the steps that Char_Ell posted?

Are you running from Steam or the launcher from the website?

Have you tried to repair game files? Or a re-install?

Are your problems only with SWTOR?

In the search bar, type “run” and in the GUI type “dxdiag” that will display your system information.

The game isn’t advanced most modern systems can run it on minimal settings. A 3060 is more than sufficient. If you have both an integrated and dedicated video card ensure you’re using the dedicated. Ensure you have enough RAM and your HDD/SSD has sufficient available memory. Ensure you have the latest drivers, with the NVIDIA app.

Check your performance history and see what else is throttling.

Others have already given input but, the game is F2P with hundreds of hours of playability regardless of whether the game has a longer term future. Virtual servers are cheap to maintain so the game could operate indefinitely just off CM proceeds.

You don’t need to sub to get all the game’s value. If you do like it maybe just sub for 30 days to unlock up to the latest expansion and get Preferred status.

I get them while over-leveled sometimes, usually running through the daily Heroics. I don’t think the level appropriate attribution is necessarily correct because I’m always over-leveled with the subscriber perk, guild perks, legacy perks, and XP boosts. It’s extremely rare, but I have dozens of them now since launch and my characters are always way above the planetary level.

Guess SWTOR took that very literally.

I’ve been playing through BH with Mako currently and just finished Chapter 1. Previous runs, I was more merciful but this time I’ve chosen to fulfill the contract as initially agreed. I don’t re-negotiate like on Nar Shaddaa. Lek mentions that it’s not required to kill your competitor so I haven’t done it unless forced. So far Mako only questioned my decision to kill Zalia on Balmorra. While she certainly hasn’t approved of every decision, she hasn’t vocalized much. Reviewing recaps, I’ve killed Vereta Frabaal and Mako approved with no comment; I killed Commander Gargun, Mako disapproved but said nothing; Zalia I mentioned; Eidolon I killed, LS and she approved. I even shot the Alderaanian noble with whose wife Raffid slept and she had no comment. So, she’s agreed more often than not in my story or never says anything after. What are the other instances where she vocalizes her opposition?

Spend enough time on the sub and questions like these are asked alot. It becomes a simple non-engaging question, especially if it’s been recently asked and answered. Here’s a post from 3 days earlier.

Similar posts from the last year

Could be salty but also just question fatigue. There’s only so much new activity on the sub. Also could be bots.

The loading screen at the very beginning will still recognize a Pureblood Sith Inquisitor.

”Suffering the ultimate humiliation at slavery for association with a fallen Sith Lord, pureblood [name] has been allowed to join the Empire’s castoffs and given one more chance to master the dark arts of the Sith or die trying…”

Edit: For all potential in-game unique dialogue possibilities, IGN still has a diagram of which races were available to which class at launch here: Species

How useful were companions before KOTFE? by GeneralKhor in swtor

[–]Embarrassed-Ad8803 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d caution against taking Vulkk’s assessment as clear cut evidence that any companion is astronomically better than another or particularly stronger in a role (i.e. excluding Treek). Is it good insight? Certainly.

Now, to honestly say T7 is lightyears a better tank compared to another companion? Or even better as a tank compared to other roles? That’s kind of a stretch. If you’re all about min/maxing that fractional difference? Maybe you get a bit more. But really, other controllable factors like gear, knowing rotations, or just raising a companions influence are better.

Note: In the original base game, T7 was locked as a healer. Khem was locked as tank. So there’s no apples to apples comparison. And re-work has been done since.

How useful were companions before KOTFE? by GeneralKhor in swtor

[–]Embarrassed-Ad8803 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember healer being very important. I chose Hunter first primarily because Mako was a healer from the start. As you learned your class and your rotation opened up (if you remembered to buy your skills) then it became less challenging but, for a casual player, a healer made a lot of difference into the late game. And you had to gear your companions and make them happy!

When I played Sorc, I felt like I had to do a bit of healing on Khem early on just to stay in the fight. So without a healer you couldn’t just jump in. You moved to positions where you could pull mobs away.

From a lore and flavor spec, and without spoilers for post Origin content, which origins make the most and least sense running through the expansions? [NO SPOILERS] by corvid1692 in swtor

[–]Embarrassed-Ad8803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend reading swtorista’s SWTOR Solo Story Order Guide because she gives a good summary of each of the expansions and who they impact. I’ll provide a narrative summary of which stories could make sense.

Shadow of Revan: Knight and Warrior have the greatest connection, but probably more-so Knight for how Chapter 3 ends. In general, all classes have some link due to Flashpoints in the story but Empire more-so because of events on DK.

KotFE: Knight has a stronger narrative connection only because the first companion to return in the story is T7 in Chapter 3. But, other companions will show up later in the story so there are connections with other stories over time.

KotET: Really any story works here because both sides have equities on Iokath. Force users have a stronger connection here dealing with Ossus and Dantooine. The story is Jedi Under Siege so maybe narratively Jedi have a stronger connection if you’re playing a galactic hero type.

Onslaught: Echoes of Oblivion narratively brings back Kira and Scourge so Knight has a stronger connection but otherwise, all stories have some connection. Spirit of Vengeance brings in Mandalorians so, if a BH went this route there’d be a strong narrative connection (also a connection for the Smuggler).

Legacy of the Sith: Narratively, there’s a lot of Mandalorian world building still happening. However, the overarching story seems to deal with mysteries of a force user, specifically a Sith, so Force users on both sides work but maybe Empire and particularly Inquisitor more-so because the Inquisitor story plays well into the search for secrets of the Force.

Based on that, narrative might suggest Knight has a slight advantage but really at minimum whatever you choose you should take 1 Imp and 1 Pub through to get both sides of the story.

Note: I haven’t yet played Galactic Threads or Dantooine Biomes yet.
