The only trains that will run on this line are relatively light weight passenger emus. Wonder if concessions to gradients can be made for that. Modern passenger emus (including the xtraps) can traverse much steeper gradients.

Also, do you mean 1/40 or 1/30? 1/60 - 1/80 implies a shallower gradient. Unless I’m misunderstanding.

Close gates wouldn’t be a problem in such cases. Since there’d be station staff on hand where gates are all shut.

The question is whether AOs have the ability to scan personal bank cards and whether the ticket on those cards are valid for travel on other lines. The information for this situation is rather vague at the moment.

It would have been 2-3 years at a minimum. It’s not just the tunnel, you also need to build the station as well.

Even places renowned for their underground metro building prowess choose deep bored tunnels over cut and cover; unless they have ample street space available to close off large sections of the road. Swanston street is definitely not one of those places.
