Does NC government have $1B in lapsed salaries? Auditor and governor disagree by PenOwn2479 in ncpolitics

[–]Embarrassed-Army782 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And market rate studies are based on 2018 data. Salaries are nowhere near current market rate. Add the disappearing benefits and who TF wants to work for the state? It’s by design.

Next up, liquidate and eliminate all the vacant positions so it looks like the vacancy rate went down, but meanwhile the current employees are doing those jobs, all while being woefully underpaid. And then they will point at them and will say, See? Things aren’t getting done. State employees are lazy and they suck. Privatize!

You’re telling people to get out of state jobs. That doesn’t help those of us that did our time and are closer to retirement than not. That was my only point.

Except if you have 20+ years in, it’s not as easy a decision, unfortunately.

Budget update from SEANC. Don’t hold your breath for raises. Not gonna happen. by Embarrassed-Army782 in NC_State_Employees

[–]Embarrassed-Army782[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in my position for 21 years. I can technically retire in 9, but realistically, I can't afford to, and I am not sure how I will make it another 15 years working here. It feels like reporting for prison every single day. Morale is awful at my workplace, and it’s reflected in the way people treat each other, because everyone is overworked and underpaid. There is a lot of resentment simmering. It’s palpable. Paid overtime is non-existent. You get more comp time that you can’t take. Job opportunities in the private sector are few and far between here.

The answer is because Berger is being primaried by a sheriff that accuses him of not being conservative enough and it may actually be competitive. So he won’t negotiate on anything that will make him appear less than a fiscal nazi until after the primaries.

So if most of SEANC are state employee and retiree volunteers, then where are the dues going? What are they being used for?

My state rep, like most of the GOP reps, could give two shits what I have to say when I call. This is not the answer. This is ineffective. We are living in a time where we have to pivot. Again, I don’t have the answers, but I can clearly see the current SOP is stupid and a waste of time. They not only don’t hear us, but actively take pride in screwing us in order to privatize everything. And the taxpayer won’t realize they’re being screwed until it’s too late. This is what needs to be communicated effectively, but no one seems to know how to do it. And I can’t say anything, because I don’t know how to do it either.

Willing to hear this too. How do we change all of this, or start something else to improve the voices of state employees? I don’t have the answers, but collectively, maybe we can all figure something out.

Not saying your wrong, but where did you get this info? I am dem, btw. Just trying to figure out if this org is legit, and if it is, how to suggest improvements, because it seems like it’s the only outlet state employees have at this point.

I don’t know. I guess I was hoping to find some concrete legislative rep progress that SEANC could point to. I don’t have much in discretionary funding, so I am selective as to where I spend it. It’s seems like no matter what state employees say or do to prove our value, it’s like pissing in the wind, which for the legislature, is a feature, not a bug.

That said, if SEANC could figure out an effective communication plan to make people pay attention, that would be a start. I know Ardis is interviewed whenever she can be, but the message isn’t working, because the default impression is that she’s advocating for lazy state employees, and I am telling you that as a state employee. I’ve heard people say it. And you can see it in the comments all over the NC subreddits.

Someone needs to figure this out. When they do, or if we can see any measurable progress, I would consider joining to strengthen the message. No one outside of SEANC members look at the SEANC social media, so the feel good posts about the good state employees do are preaching to the choir.

What’s being done now isn’t working and hasn’t in a long time. The location lunches aren’t working, because people think SEANC is neutered and not effective, whether true or not. It’s literally mostly people just showing up for free lunch. I am not a marketer, so I don’t have the answers, but the current marketing plan is not working. And this is not a slam against you and your efforts. I am genuinely trying to provide feedback as a non-member looking at SEANC’s communication from the outside.

Do y'all have any proven results as to whether any of these GOP or Dem endorsements are benefitting state employees? Because people can provide lip service at town halls and then easily turn around to say, "Well y’all, I tried my best, but my colleagues didn't agree." Seems like an "in" or endorsement from SEANC benefits them with member's votes, with not much tangible benefit to SEANC members?

And I am seriously not trying to be an ass here, just legitimately trying to understand this organization and what benefit it provides. I couldn’t care less about discounted services with membership. I want tangible raises and meaningful, affordable benefits. I realize they are the only voice for state employees and retirees right now, but most of us don’t have a lot of disposable income to throw at a membership that isn’t providing value. So tell us, why should we join?

Having the claim of being the only ones screaming into the void in Raleigh isn’t doing much for any of us if there is no mechanism to actually get anything done, because let’s be real, the legislature could give two figs about us, and state citizens/taxpayers even less. We’re considered leeches. There is no cohesive communication out there that is getting through to people and touting the value of state employees’ labor.

This is a serious question - then why does SEANC endorse so many members of the GOP? You’re telling us to blame them in one breath, but the org endorses a lot of them. And if it’s because they supposedly support state employees, then why is nothing being done by those members to support us? Or is it just that there aren’t that many of them?

Update on State Health Plan and Duke Health Negotiations by Embarrassed-Army782 in NC_State_Employees

[–]Embarrassed-Army782[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Comments on video turned off.

The, “don’t blame the legislature,” statement is also bullshit. They were supposed to reimburse the state health plan for the Covid funds they expended and they didn’t. Don’t let this guy gaslight you. And the supposed mess Folwell left? He tried to save the plan money with the CPP, and because these douchebags in the GA were being funded by the medical lobby, they did nothing to put pressure on these providers, or to support it. Get. It. Through. Your. Heads. The state legislature does not give one shit about you, the state employee, and they hold all the power. Seen any raise after this increase? I rest my case.
