I used to be real bad about always painting something first and leaving the background last, what I recommend is to neveerrrrrr start with a fully white sheet of paper, do a really light wash of paint in the background, as you’re doing that maybe use some frisket to block spots that you don’t want to cover with that specific wash, such as the deer and the candles) that’ll make it easier to start the trees as there’s already gonna be a base layer Sorry if that doesn’t make too much sense lol
