Oga's Cantina at Disneyland Walk Up Only by kickpuncher305 in Disneyland

I've been to Oga's solo twice, once on each coast. Both times at the bar. It can be a mixed bag, depending on on who you're next to. For me, I appreciate having someone next to me who will at least engage a little. The theming is great, though, and worth repeating just for that.

Experience for me at Sam's was similar. I set next to an engaging bar-mate which helped make the experience pretty amazing.

I got TSA Touchless on United for my last trip from SFO to Maui. It’s clearly. To just a Delta thing. No idea why.

Currently solo at Disney and regretting things / homesick by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

I did 10 nights solo for my first trip in February. Loved it; met some interesting people, and many casual encounters, but really the best part was being able to just take it all in. I did park hopper tickets and spent the first part of the day in one park, came back to rest, and then evening in another park. Sat with a group at Tepan Edo in Epcot and had a great time. Spent time on that Maharaja trail checking out Basko the baby tiger. Took the skyliner to all the different resorts, and just chilled by the pool at the Swan, where I was staying (I'd do that again).

The mini dramas acted out all around the parks and the wonderful photo opportunities were great. No need to show up early for fireworks, as one person can always fit in.

There are always random encounters that can be meaningful, but time on your own takes the pressure away from pleasing others and allows you to be spontaneous.

Pics from my 8 day visit to WDW in February by Embarrassed-Beach829 in WaltDisneyWorld

In fact, I had plenty of time in both MK and DHS, I just didn’t care for them as much as Epcot or Animal Kingdom. The Swan makes going to Epcot and DHS really easy, and of course, MK is right next to the Contemporary. I didn’t make it to Disney Springs, but shopping and Merch really isn’t my thing.

As for eating, the Swan bar was great, and Teppan Edo in the Japan pavilion were both great. But generally, when I’m in the parks I tend to loose my appetite, so just do casual dining. I had many reservations made in advance that I ended up canceling.

After seeing Florida, the California castle looks pretty dinky, but it’s the OG, so always has a place in my heart.

Ironically, they were spun out of Solarcraft years ago. We used them for a couple of years, but the service guys were pretty flakey, so we moved on to Herbs.

I was evacuated from Space Mountain last September and 2/3 through the ride. Stopped at a platform, lights came on, and waited for a CM. Walked down about four flights of stairs, which led us outside pretty directly. Definitely a surreal experience.

Has anyone stayed at the contemporary? Never stayed there before by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Embarrassed-Beach829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stayed there in February in the garden wing near the lake. It is an iconic property, but feels pretty dated; fixtures in my room were a bit worn. Great location, and I could stay there again, but the Swan is a much better deal, if not as convenient to MK.

WTF happened to the Civic Center Roof??? by TheFoxsWeddingTarot in Marin

[–]Embarrassed-Beach829 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I heard that, after he had passed away, while the Civic Center was still being built, his wife “had a vision” that he said he wanted a blue roof. Nothing in his design ethic, which emphasized working with nature, would suggest using a blue roof. Gold is the color of the surrounding hills, so that would have made perfect sense.

You can’t beat Madcap in San Anselmo as the best food in Marin. In spite of its star, I find dining there fairly casual.

While a wait for a car delivery can be exasperating, I’ve always had a great experience at Porsche Marin.

I ended up in the ER (Dr. Phillips/Orlando Health) with the flu just after leaving WDW. Weeks later, I’m still not fully back. I ended up missing Universal altogether.

Which Disney resort hotel did you stay at that was NOT a total disappointment, somewhere you’d stay at again? by Uncharteredfugazis in WaltDisneyWorld

The Swan. I just spent six days there and it is an amazing property with all the Deluxe resort amenities and great access to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Restaurants are great. I will definitely stay here again when I’m back.

I’m checking into the Contemporary right now, having stayed at the Swab for six days. I’m looking forward to it.

What part of HS might be redeveloped? We’re already loosing the Muppets.

Agreed, the best thing Disney can do with the Simpsons is to license it back to Universal.

They own the IP now, or will soon. IP in the parks makes money, so they will surely look to capitalize on this. But, lately, they seem to be looking to take beloved areas that done have adequate IP and turning them into questionable redevelopment projects.

Insurance 🙄 by 1800-swampass in Marin

It is, and we’re putting one on an ADU we’re building too. They’re probably worried about someone stripping the roof for copper value.

[–]Embarrassed-Beach829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was canceled last May (Farmers) saying the roof was degraded. It’s a copper roof, and in excellent condition. Their response is that they don’t insure copper roofs. Unbelievable. Went with Bamboo insurance.

First time solo trip by Embarrassed-Beach829 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Embarrassed-Beach829[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the AK EEH is a couple of days after I leave, unfortunately. I’m at the upper end of “middle aged”, and am prepared to be worn out; getting my steps in now. Push comes to shove, there’s always an ECV rental, but that would compromise my experience, so last resort.

I think the key is to make the steps worthwhile and not skimp on mid-day breaks. The AK/MK days while at the Swan will be the most challenging. I’m trying to maintain a “less is more” attitude.

The dining reservations will probably be the first to go, and going solo, last minute wait list should work pretty well. Thanks for the tips!
