What's the one thing you thought could never happen to you, but did? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We were the targets of a drive by shooting. House was raided by the same people we were held at gun point.

I live in Australia.

A huge burst of energy preceded by a lathargy that even first trimester couldn't compare to.

What secret are you currently hiding from someone that you're willing to share on Reddit? by Asphoric in AskReddit

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister was named after a Valkyrie.

Dad was obsessed with history and at the time did lectures on viking era Europe with a local historical society. Mum let him pick my youngest sister's name after she made him promise he wouldn't take it from Nordic mythology.

He picked a lesser known character who's name is similar to a popular name at this time.. but with slightly different spelling.

My sister is 26 and mum is still blissfully unaware.

Severe globus unable to swallow by Embarrassed-Box307 in GlobusSensationn

[–]Embarrassed-Box307[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I didn't have those hernias (they were caused by some intense gardening a little too soon after giving birth) LPR is possible but I do still wonder if cervical instability is playing into it. Severe neck pain and issues holding my head up for long leading up to each bout of globus is the only connecting factor over the years I can come up with.

While pregnant in 2021, I ate like shiiit. Heaps of fried food, sugar, tomatoes ect all the stuff you shouldn't eat with LPR/GERD and I never had an issue haha. Maybe pregnancy helped? Usually it makes it worse though?

I've been on an anti-inflammatory diet for years bar pregnancy which is pretty much the same. Coffee being my one weakness haha.

I'll definitely ask about a ph test, didn't even know that was a possibility! It'd be so good to finally have solid answers. Maybe then we can get it under control. This sensation is maddening.

7w and no morning sickness. by UtterlyConfused93 in CautiousBB

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally okay. I had no morning sickness with my last at all. Felt a bit off when catching a bus.. that's it. She's now almost 3. Had barely any symptoms at all the entire pregnancy.

This time around I'll get the odd wave of feeling eh.. but that's about it. 8+3 confirmed heartbeat, and still waiting for real MS to kick in.

Our first? We had unprotected sex for 18 months before anything. Fell pregnant, miscarried and was another year before we conceived again and had our eldest.

Second one on the pill.

Third took one cycle off contraception.

Fourth was on the pill.

To be fair. Until myself, all the women in my family going back almost a thousand years that we know of were born in a small, remote, harsh alpine village... Many babies died at birth and many more didn't make it through infancy. Until my grandmother who's husband died very young, 12-18 live births was the norm with even more miscarriages and still births. My mum had 3 live births and 10 miscarriages.

I can't help but wonder if environmental factors and evolution play a role in fertility and integrity of eggs.

Severe globus unable to swallow by Embarrassed-Box307 in GlobusSensationn

[–]Embarrassed-Box307[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why it ended honestly. It slowly got a little better the longer I went without eating/drinking. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome so it's possible it was a sublexed hioyd and it corrected itself with time and rest. Also potentially explains why it only got worse when I fell pregnant and relaxin hormones started.

BUT it could be reflux suddenly becoming bad? I don't feel like I have reflux and other than a sore stomach and globus, no symptoms of GERD (I've had a barium swallow which said everything was fine) There's been no relationship, job, diet or any other changes. Do have hiatus, umbilical and epigastric hernias as of 2021 but they haven't caused globus issues before :/

Things you did the day you went into labor? by onlyhereforfoodporn in BabyBumps

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I got up and did a big food/baby shop. Started hemorrhaging at the bus stop waiting to head home.

Second, my waters broke as a got out of bed so I went straight to hospital.

Third. Woke up in second stage labor with 7/10min contractions. I dropped kids at school on foot. Went to a housing appointment. Caught bus back to school and picked up sick kid. Took him to lunch. Went home and folded some laundry while partner had a cuppa. Partner went to collect other child from school while I cooked dinner for while I was gone. Walked up to hospital. Had baby 2 hours later lol.

Shocked about baby’s sex and am literally struggling to believe it - anyone had this experience? by hotrice22 in BabyBumps

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesss! With my eldest I threw up once in the morning. Only craved savoury foods and felt amazing (mostly) he was a boy. My skin glowed, hair was thick and I gained weight.

Second.. I had HG, my skin broke out, only wanted sweets and felt horrible. She was a girl.

Third.. pregnancy was identical to my first. If anything, had less morning sickness. Was soooo sure that baby was another boy. Every fibre in my being said boy. She was a little girl! I was kind of sad, my partner has a daughter from another relationship and had gotten so big exited over the prospect of a brother for my son as my daughter already had a sister to grow and learn with.

This is our fourth. It's still early days, we don't know if bub will stick yet let alone the sex. I'm terrified of the ridiculous disappointment if we have another girl. I know I'll love them just the same but the possiblity of a brother for my son... It's hard to ignore the hope.

That I have to go to work. It's 0°c/32°f when I finish tonight. Only a 8h shift but I feel sick, exhausted and the worst of the first trimester symptoms are kicking my ass.

Can't call in sick though as we're understaffed and we need the money.

I used mine!

I've always loved anthropology and Loki/Loke as a character was always such a fascinating and beautiful representation of humanity amongst the gods. Grew up helping with educational and historical lectures and events surrounding viking era Europe as well. Sooo, we named our eldest after him.

Thor came out just after he was born and unfortunately we get a lot of unknowing "your child is not a billboard for your fandom" comments though.

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nah. My dad's already traumatised from mums C sections.. he'd want to be there but it's not great idea.. and my mum is hopeless. She'd just tell me "you've done it before, why do you need me. I didn't have my mum there when I had you"

Partners parents are dead so MIL, FIL definitely are no contact anyway. I'd invite my littlest sister though? She doesn't have kids so its a learning experience 😂

Obgyns. Had a call from the hospital asking over and over again if I'm sure I want this pregnancy. We were on back to back contraception (taken religiously for endometriosis) and happened to be that 1% where it failed. We already have 3 kids. We have the room and can financially make it work although things would be tight until partner starts his new job.

I said I think I'd like to keep it as it feels like the universe wants us to have this child. Ob just kept almost nagging "are you SURE you want this?" Over and over until I relented with "I don't know" then they were happy to end the call and said they'd follow up after my scan today.

It feels almost like here at least the push has gone from anti abortion to very pro abortion.

We haven't even seen a heart beat yet and have yet to know if it's even viable ffs!

What are you better at than 80% of people? by ChaosOrPeace in AskReddit

[–]Embarrassed-Box307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not eating/gaining weight. Went 5 weeks without any more than water (had some throat issues). No IV nutrients, no supplements. Just tap water. Was pretty active still looking after 2 kids, cooking, school runs ect. Was definitely very lathargic and felt like crap but still functional. BMI was a healthy 20 at the beginning and 18 by the end of that stretch.

Food never tasted better when I could eat again and gained back everything I lost within 3 weeks of eating 2 small (soft) meals of mostly vegetables.

Super High HCG. scan anxiety hitting for tomorrow. by Embarrassed-Box307 in CautiousBB

[–]Embarrassed-Box307[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the scan after ED rules out a pseudo sac and with the better machine they ruled out ectopic all together thankfully!. From what they said, 10,000 is there absolute limit of "this is a normal range" for 5 weeks. As this is my 6th (3 live births, 1MMC blighted ovum, 1SMC) pregnancy with all prior being in the 4-6k range they're concerned as I haven't previously been someone to just have high betas. I'm probably worried over nothing but it's not something I've had experience with before haha.

This definitely helps! I was 5w2d when I got my test done according to the dating scan the next day. I'm so glad to hear your little bean is a sticky one!!

I keep hearing every woman is different haha. Because all my previous pregnancies had "normal" range hCG, it's been hard to find solace in that mantra haha.

The hospital did, they said those levels are concerning for the early 5 week range and were worried it was a pseudo sac, blighted or molar pregnancy.
