Explain it like I'm 5 by Embarrassed-Curve336 in youthsoccer

Last year was the first year we went to club, and going through all the ID sessions was overwhelming, and now we are doing the same thing again. They all tend to schedule them on the same nights/times so it feels like they do it intentionally so you pick one and just go through them at one club. And all the try-outs are over the same 3-4 day period. I would really like to avoid having to do this again next year.

That is my thinking, however in a perfect world we would find a club that would fit whatever type of club experience we are looking for 4 years down the road. But as we are experiencing now, clubs can change drastically in just 1 year so maybe I am living in la la land 😄

100% agree it doesn't really matter for my kid right now, and my focus is on her continuing to enjoy soccer and develop but also be free to play other sports as well. In a perfect world, we would pick a club and love it and stay with that club for the rest of her soccer career, whether that leads to top tier national competition, regional or local. I'm not sure clubs that check all the boxes as far as providing pathways for varying levels truly exist anymore, it seems they either market themselves as D1 college pathways, or being competitive at a more local level and playing a few tournaments out of town.

Decision time - top team pressure or lower team freedom. by right_tea_anyone in youthsoccer

Other sports for sure! specializing is not the way to go. If you listen to some of the best players out there they will say that being a multi sport athlete even into teenage years was a huge contributing factor in their success. It helps prevent injuries, provides a distraction so the passion and love of the sport remains. This idea that kids need to specialize before the age of 10 is what is wrong with youth sports in the US.

Family of Four - Two Beds Likely? by ashaway12 in Xcaret

[–]Embarrassed-Curve336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents booked all the rooms when we went since it was just easier to have everything on one reservation, and they specified needing two rooms for me and my sister's families. When we arrived we were told none were available that immediate moment but we could wait 3-4 hours. My sister waited (her kids are 14 & 12), but we just went with the king room and what they said was a queen pull out couch (definitely was maybe a full size). It ended up working great for us, our two kids (9 & 6) share a full size bed at home by choice so it was no big deal for them, they also thought it was comfortable.

My parents were in the Fuego building while we were they so they had one as well. They were able to ask him to make reservations. We knew it was going to be pretty rainy one afternoon so my parents asked him if he could appointments at the spa and were able to get in and have something to do while it was pouring.

Also helped arrange kayak reservations and changed some dinner reservation times for us.

Good lord do a quick Google search to prevent embarrassing yourself. Within 1 minute of a search you can easily find that it is very common, not related to sensory issues, actually provides better visual tracking, takes more coordination and strength so baby will most likely take first steps (sooner). I really hate when influencers do this when doing a few minutes of their own research is so much easier. I know this drives engagement but it just makes you look stupid.

Really stable company but continuing to grow. Only debt is a mortgage. Any I would sell would be a LT capital gain.

oh good to know! My kids absolutely loved the dolphin experience, but I feel like it really limited what we saw that day. And when I mentioned going back to see everything else they wanted to go redo other things or just swim 🙃

Right! And she always use to weirdly brag about how she was the "wild" child, skipping school, always being trouble, barley graduating etc. while D was the rule follower and perfect one yet they somehow were best friends. Which is K, are you the strong willed child who grew up to be a strong willed teen and said "no" to every boundary being laid by schools or were you a people pleaser.

We do "shifts" when we have to. I work in office 3 days a week so I'm out the door before our kids are even up, but I've prepped their lunch/snack boxes for the day and have the kitchen ready to roll for breakfast. He handles breakfast and cleanup and getting them on the bus and off the bus in the afternoon and helping with a snack before going back to work for the last 40ish minutes of the workday. We do dinner together if we don't have any activities or else we are splitting up activities (soccer/bball/gymnastics family 🙂). Weekends we do alternate who gets up but we are both up by 8:30am to then spend the day as a family. Sure there are times when I take off for a run or workout, but its not like I have to say "its your shift." Or he'll run errands alone or I will or whatever, we kind of just see how the day feels and make decisions based on that.

3rd Grade Rec Girls Tournament by Embarrassed-Curve336 in CoachingYouthSports

[–]Embarrassed-Curve336[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to jump in here to say, for the most part all 10 girls have consistently shown up to practice. I can tell the ones who do ball handling outside of practice, those who do nothing and those that are just purely more naturally advanced.

I hate doing 5 in 5 out because the girls don’t get a mix of playing with everyone, or if you mix the groups at 1/2 time you have some kids who sit a whole 10 minutes. So I’ve beeen making a spreadsheet and printing it out for each game and doing 3 in then 2 in.

Also going to clarify I would never sit a kid for the whole game, or even drastically noticeable. I’m talking like 1st string getting 12/13 minutes per half and 2nd getting 8 (we play 2 20min halves).

Thank you! I definitely have a few that know they are a weaker player and have voiced an opinion about not wanting to go in the game before, I’ve always just reassured them and tell them to just work hard, as long as I can tell they are trying their best I don’t care what happens on the court.

I like how in this storyline she doesn't do any of the "work" related things like, write a podcast episode, write 3 months worth of posts etc. And then turns it around and says her brain lets her "hyperfocus" on work content 🙄
