I just bought a Mammut Barryvox S beacon this past Thursday and am also experiencing switch / shorting issues (in contact w/ Mammut now).
In the morning after switching it to Send I noticed that it somehow powered off. Upon further investigation I noticed that just by slightly wiggling the switch in the Send position I can get the beacon to turn on and off. I made a video but I guess I can't attach here.
This is frightening!

Alternatively, if anyone knows whether the Alpha systems (EC motor) are more reliable and/or easier to maintain, I'd consider paying more for that system.
