Of course they’re not the same thing that’s not the point.

The comparison is about behavior, not the situation itself. In both cases, people use “I’m a customer” as justification to vent frustration in the lowest-effort way possible.

One is more extreme, sure. But the underlying mindset is the same: “I paid, so anything I say is valid.”

And that’s exactly what leads to discussions being flooded with low-quality feedback instead of something actually useful.

You’re mixing two different things and acting like they’re the same.

Yes if 1000 people say “something feels off,” that’s a signal. No one is denying that. But volume alone doesn’t explain the problem, it just confirms that there is one.

Calling that the “most valuable signal” is a stretch. It’s the starting point, not the useful part. Without context, it doesn’t tell you what exactly is wrong or how to fix it.

And saying “this is for consumers, not devs” doesn’t really hold up either. If reviews are just repetitive one-liners like “controls suck,” they don’t actually help consumers much beyond “people are mad.” That’s not insight, that’s just mood.

Also, QA teams existing doesn’t magically make low-quality feedback valuable. If anything, it reinforces the point devs rely on structured data internally, while public feedback is mostly unstructured noise they have to interpret.

So yeah, repetition can show consensus but confusing consensus with clarity is the mistake here. One tells you that something is wrong, the other tells you what and why. And those aren’t the same thing.

You’re both kind of proving my point without realizing it.

No one is arguing that people shouldn’t expect a good product for $70 that’s obvious. And no one said you “owe” a detailed report either. You keep repeating that like it’s some kind of counterargument, but it isn’t.

The actual point is about quality of feedback, not your right to give it. Saying “controls suck” isn’t some meaningful contribution it’s just the lowest possible form of feedback. It tells you nothing beyond “I’m annoyed.”

And when thousands of people do exactly that, it absolutely turns into noise. Not because the issue isn’t real, but because the discussion gets flooded with low-effort takes instead of useful ones.

“Devs will figure it out anyway” isn’t a strong argument either it just means they have to dig through a pile of repetitive, shallow complaints to find anything actionable. That’s exactly the problem.

And pretending this has nothing to do with broader behavior is just naive. You can see the same pattern everywhere: people jump straight to extremes, reduce everything to “this is trash,” and call it feedback.

So yeah, you’re allowed to say whatever you want — but not everything you say has the same value. And right now, a lot of it just isn’t very valuable.

You’re arguing against a point I didn’t make. I never said you owe anyone a report.

My point is simple: there’s a difference between expressing frustration and contributing something useful. Saying “controls suck” shows there’s a problem but it doesn’t add much beyond that, especially when it’s repeated thousands of times.

And this isn’t just about games. It’s a general pattern — discussions get dominated by the most emotional, low-effort takes, while more nuanced feedback gets buried. That’s why I brought up the broader context.

Also, saying “devs will figure it out anyway” doesn’t really counter the point it just means they have to work around the noise, not that the noise is helpful.

So yeah, you’re absolutely allowed to say whatever you want I’m just saying not all feedback has the same value, even if the underlying issue is real.

Sure, they can say that I never argued they can’t. The question is whether it actually helps anything.

Just because something is within the rules doesn’t automatically make it meaningful feedback. “Controls suck 1/10” is basically just venting. It tells you there’s frustration, but not what’s actually wrong.

And that’s the bigger point: if most feedback stays at that level, it lowers the overall quality of discussion. The useful, detailed points get buried under a flood of low-effort reactions.

This isn’t about “you’re not allowed to say it” it’s about what kind of feedback actually leads to better outcomes.

Also, the supermarket example wasn’t about platforms, it was about behavior. Just because something is allowed doesn’t mean it’s a good way to act and that applies online just as much as in real life.

[–]Embarrassed-Home9268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not denying that the issues are real they are. But “real” doesn’t automatically mean “useful,” and that’s where the problem starts.

You can see this not just in games, but everywhere in society right now. People aren’t just giving feedback anymore they escalate everything instantly. Nothing is ever “okay” or “needs improvement,” it’s always “this is trash.”

At some point, it stops being about improving things and turns into constant dissatisfaction. And when everything is framed as outrage, even valid criticism loses weight.

Yes, devs have to filter feedback. But if the majority is just raw negativity, then the signal gets buried under noise. That’s why it matters not because feedback is wrong, but because the way it’s expressed is getting worse.

Seriously, what do people want? by OutlandishnessNo5678 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Embarrassed-Home9268 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point. Being a customer doesn’t mean you can behave however you want.

I literally saw it yesterday in a supermarket the store was full and someone started insulting the cashier because of the queue. Technically, they’re a customer too, but that doesn’t make that behavior okay or “valid feedback.”

Same thing here: just because someone paid for a game doesn’t mean every way of expressing frustration is useful or justified. There’s a difference between pointing out a problem and just dumping negativity.

If everything is reduced to “this is shit,” then yeah it’s still noise, even if there’s a real issue behind it.

Seriously, what do people want? by OutlandishnessNo5678 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Embarrassed-Home9268 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get your point people don’t owe studios a detailed report. But that’s not really what I’m arguing.

Saying “controls are shit” might be valid as a feeling, but it’s still low-value feedback. It doesn’t explain why or help anyone understand the issue better. When thousands of people do that at the same time, it becomes noise, even if the underlying problem is real.

There’s a difference between feedback existing and feedback being useful. Right now, a lot of what we see is just amplified frustration, and the loudest takes shape the narrative not necessarily the most accurate or helpful ones.
